Hi All,

Hoping I could get some advice. I have checked the forums and kind find anything relevant to my situation.

Last night I absolutely thrashed my R32 gts-t for about 15-20 minutes. My younger brother then gave it a go and revved out 1st gear many times. This morning, driving to work I noticed the following problems.

1. 1st - 2nd gear change grinds if done quickly. Difficult to put it in if done slowly.

2. slight shudder when pulling away in 1st (slowly).

I tested it again at lunchtime, the shudder seems to have dissapeared, however the 1st-2nd problem is still there.

I doubt the gear oil has been changed in a while so I have it booked in tomorrow. If this does not alleviate the problem then I assume the syncro between these gears will need to be adjusted. Any suggestions/advice?

Thankyou

LoL

The shudder could have been from the clutch friction plate. You could have overheated it, which's then made it slightly unbalanced. That could explain how it went away after driving for a while.

Do a g.box oil change, if you know its been a while - go from there.

Thanks mate

Shudder will be from the clutch, and it sounds like you shagged 2'nd gear synchro. It might work better with fresh oil.... might not. If not, better off fixing sooner rather than later, because it will just damage the selector sleeves and cost you even more money. R32 GTST boxes are cheap compared to R33/R34/GTR, so probably the quickest option would be a second-hand box from an importer.

Well I have changed the gear oil to a synthetic, seems a little better but still not perfect. Any idea how much a 2nd hand gearbox will go for?

I also had the clutch replaced, shudder is now gone.

Thanks guys

When you get your gearbox oil changed, check how much metal shavings have been collected on the magnet at the bottom of your gearbox, this will determine how much thrashing you are giving your gearbox..

I recently changed my gearbox fluid at home with a mate, and i discovered 3 clips attracted to the magnet, my mate reckons they look like linkage clips, whatever they may be, its not good, even though i still can change gears smoothly, i get grinding in 3rd and 4th gear when flat changing..
