Finally Got Around To Doing My Brake And Suspension Upgrade!

Recommended Posts

Finally got some time off to get some work done on the 33. Iv'e had the Teins and Slotted rotors sitting there for 8 months waiting to get some time to do it. Also put on the apexi boost controller while we were there and got it tuned.

First we put her up on the hoist to have a good look and get the calipers off for prep. Thought seeing I had the time we would get them sand blasted.

I hit them with about 20 coats of K&H Calipers spray. I wanted the duplex Metal cast but couldn"t get it. I thought the K&H came out good still. While they werer drying we put the coil overs on. Got them off a mate at a good rate.

I had to get a mate Matt to help get the calipers on the rotors. The red stuff pads made it a tight squeeze.

I ended up getting the dremel on the nissan logos. The chrome finish looks great.

Shane from PSI parts gave me a hand to get the boost controller hooked up and put a new pod on. Matt tuned the Power FC and set it to about 15 pound. All in all it was well worth the two soldi days of hassels and waiting for paint to dry but the results were apparent as soon as she came off the hoist. It would have taken me a hell of a lot longer if it wasn't for the help of Shane and Matt. It's always good having a wealth of knowledge around to give advice.

I went for the anodized blue look... looks really good with the wheels I got off ya!

hehe :D

Good stuff!

Hey Adam! You still havent posted me any pics of what the wheels look like on! Give us a look of your new calipers! We should go for a cruise on Sunday!

hmmm... I may available for a cruise, if Im not going dirt bike riding or can be stuffed fixing a few small probs..

might need your advice if you have an opinion on non squeaky pads.... I have scratched and chipped some of my caliper paint just due to taking them on and off so many times trying to fix this sqeak! I am going insane! ALSO I washed my car the other night... the friggin high pressure hose took a 20cent piece of paint of my bonnet! trying to track down this guy who comes to your house to fix your car and hes really good and really cheap!

GRRRRR!

LOL other then that I would love a cruise :D Maybe beach road ????

Are the pads new?????

Looks F**King hot buddy!

I get around doing mine one day LOL!

Thanks man! It's a must do job for the standard calipers. However it's a tediouse job. Set asside some time. If you wanted to pay some one to do it that'd be easier but I think doing it yourself is so much more worth it. I look at em now and think Niiiice!

Yeah atm my calipers are just the standard black but all faded.

I could be lazy and just take the wheels off, scrub down the caliper with cleaner and spray paint the caliper on the side and front but for the long run, do what you have done and the caliper paint will last a lot longer and look better. LOL!

Cool!

You can get a good result from doing the calipers with just the wheels off. Once again if you do it aver a full day and mask everything up properly know one would even know, as you cant really see the back of the calipers unless your under it. You could do it in 1 day not a problem and its not like you be working for a full day just watching paint dry drinking beer. lol

    • I swear at my GKTech ones every time I have to take them apart and replace a spherical. But I wouldn't swap them for anything else. They absolutely slay every other option, at least in terms of how they actually work. You sure you don't want to live with bearings? I mean, they don't have "ball bearings". They are rod ends and sphericals throughout. Tough as nuts, even though I have found more than one way to wear them out.
    • From when I was looking at getting the 86 engineered for the turbo, the joint said to put in a few euro 5 or 6 cats, then tune the car on a nice clean E85 tune When I was looking at a turbo for the MX5, it was basically the same thing, a couple of cats and a nice clean tune Although, it will depend on the year of the Jeep IRT emmisions standards required, and what mods are done, especially if it has a newer engine installed that requires a higher Euro
    • Yeah - but it's not actually that easy. There are limits for HC, CO, NOx and particulates. Particulates shouldn't be a concern in any petrol engine unless trying to comply to the very latest Euro standard. But getting a tune right so that all the others stay within limits AT THE SAME TIME is not a trivial exercise. You couldn't possibly get it right by just guessing at the tuner's dyno, unless he had a 4 gas analyser up the pipe, which is not often the case these days. It used to be. Every decent shop that did "tune ups" (as opposed to tuning) would have a 4 gas analsyer. Perhaps there's still quite a few of them around these days. But most "tuners" are only watching O2 and power readings.
    • Slight segway but the most expensive part of the whole thing which I would have thought would only be required for an engine size/type swap, not a VIV test, is emissions testing.  That's when you get into the big bucks.  I can't remember the exact price now but I got quotes for the GT-R based on swapping to RB30 (not that anyone bothers doing it legally anymore...) and it was around $4500 just for that alone.  The guy that does them manipulates the tune on the vehicle to make sure it passes.  The cheaper option is to book into Kangan Batman Tafe (I think that's where it was) and hire their tester.  Allegedly you're not allowed in there with the car though so not in a position to tweak anything to make sure the vehicle passes.  I'm sure in this day and age of ultra tuneable ECU's you could get the tuner to program a special efficiency (clean) tune that emits the lowest amount of particulates possible that would pass the test.  It might only make 50kW's but as long as it passed who cares!
    • I'm sure he has left signs, or, he is looking down, laughing That's my cunning plan for when I leave, lots of half finished projects, with no rhyme or reason of where I was actually up to, just to keep everyone on their toes
