As some of the NSW guys will know, my car was broken into last weekend and pulled apart in an attempted theft. My thread about it is here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/R3...en-t227047.html

I took a good look at it this morning again to try and work out what they're damaged, and I have a feeling that the steering column is boned as well. I've attached a couple of pictures to try and show the damage. You can see the left over pieces of the ignition barrel mounts. They popped the barrel itself right out from between the ends where the screw threads in. Then they've jammed something in through that circle on the column to free the column lock as well, I guess.

Is it possible to knock that back into shape? Or is a whole new column going to be needed. :) The whole thing is f**king upsetting. Thieves are absolute scum.

There's also an unaccounted for plug dangling out from the dash. I have no idea where it goes. Some of the clip has been broken off. Does it plug into the other end that I've taken a picture of? I think it might be for the light behind the clock on the dash, as it's not working.

All help is appreciated. Thanks.

No, no - I spoke to them about it and considered it, but it's going to work out a little cheaper sourcing the parts myself and doing the work rather than getting Nissan to sort it out. Plus I get to keep my no claims bonus this way.

sheesh they really were ammature thieves werent they, when my ute got done they used a slide hammer on the key barrell tumbler and then used a screw driver to turn the ignition itself. what a mess, they other idea would be to drop the key ignition all together and and get a race car setup with push button starter and ignition switches etc. see your local leccy, i dont think it would cost much to install a panel, also the next time a thief walks along and sees the car without an ignition hes more likley to walk away scratchin his head.

There's actually some merit in that idea!

Because there's this story about how a man was bashed and robbed on a train...

As he got off and went to the station master he said, "Next time I'm carrying heaps of money I'll get on the train while I'm already bleeding."
