3 Seconds on the Burger ring really isn't that much.

I didnt hear you say that when the GTR beat the Porshes........lol

Id still rather the twin turbo over the 7L v8 anyday

Didnt see that call coming.... :D

Interesting to see it beat it on a track where there is undulation and corners which you would say "should" suit the GTR better, BUT it came and conquered, so straight roads it should sh!t over the GTR then.......... :D

Impressive the yanks can now build car which actually handles quite well and has a lot of power to boot. I dare say though that the GTR could have driven home without a pit stop at the servo, where as the vette probably was running on fumes by the time it reached the front gate on the burger ring track.

Haha yeah, i agree it doesn't beat the porsche by much, but it was a reality check to the prestige manufacturers, good to see at least one manufacturer has stepped up to the plate.

Hope the V Spec will beat that time by another 3 seconds, will leave alot of company directors scratching their heads :D

impressive! but the vspec should do well...

read the comments! vspec should do a 7 flat...

7 flat is VERY fast if you compare that to the cars on the list

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordschleife_lap_times

EDIT: Just reading up on both cars, The GTR has a decent amount less power (kw) than the Corvette

Vspec is coming....................

The Corvette is no doubt a machine; but damn look at how hard it looks to drive compared to the GTR.

For the usual driver I have no doubt one would run a better time in the GTR than the Corvette.

word is the VSpec in test guise has already done an unofficial 7:25

Interesting to note the weight difference. For a change it looks like the yanks have slimmed down the car...superior pwr/weight ratio by far. Hopefully the vspec will drop a few kilos and add a few horses... should narrow that 3 sec gap for sure..

Still.... thats rather impressive for an american car. Gotta give credit where its due

WOW, thats one for the books, does anyone know if this was just a one off, or was over several laps.

Maybe they should put a "P" plater in the Nissan Skyline GTR see how they go.

Impresive the Corvette though.

Hrm couple of caveats to consider having looked at the wiki entry. Says that the time is what the manufacturer claims (aka unverified) as opposed to the GTR. Also, it says the lap position started in an unusual spot, and the times recorded havent got a verified count...

If the Vspec GTR can shed a whopping 250kg and get more horsies, then the ZR1 is gonna get pwnt (imho)

    • Hi everyone, I’m Dave from Canberra. Here's a few pics of my 1992 R32 GTST coupe which I imported back in 2006. Only mods so far are HKS Hi-power cat back exhaust, K&N filter, ATC Volanti steering wheel, Pioneer stereo, amp and sub. This was my daily driver up until 2015 and sadly hasn’t been driven at all in the last 5 years due to marriage, work, and kids taking up most of my time and spare cash.As such its in need of a bit of TLC and one of my goals for this year is to get it back to running condition and maybe look into club/historic rego. I’ve joined SAU so I can ask a few questions along the way (although I promise to google Current Problem +SAU beforehand!)
    • From talking to the mx5 guys the NC doesn't actually need bonnet vents like the earlier NA and NB models, due to a better designed cooling system and undertray design There's plenty of them used as street cars and weekend track toys running anywhere from around 170 to 250kw with stock non vented bonnets, I initially was going to get some bonnet vents, but, as they are not actually required, I'll put vents on hold for a while and just monitor temps, though I do need to get something to actually monitor engine oil temps though, coolant temp can be pulled from the OBD2, but the oil gauge in the car is not actual oil temp, it is only a calculation based off coolant temp and RPM ☹️ They do recommend upgrading the radiator, which I have already done with a triple pass, and the only other thing they recommend for a street car is heat management, like I talked about above to protect bits in the engine bay from radiant heat, and to either replace the nearly 20 year old plastic coolant expansion tank, which I have done, or get a aftermarket alloy jobbie for some bling They did also say that if I wanted to track the car on occasion a oil cooler and sump baffle would be required, and as I already have had a sump baffle installed when the engine was out......... I'm going to get a oil cooler with a thermostat....... just in case I do eventually track the car, but probably not, but still maybe...🤪
