Geez its not enough we have to deal with him 'out there' but now in the Pub as well?? He's probably got some sort of Lambo Mug that allows him to drink faster and be less affected...

what rotors do you have? they are probably warping when the get hot, and going back to shape when they cool down.

DBA 5000 which 'apparently' haven't been too hot due to the heat markings on the top of the rotor. Really need to get myself a laser thermometer and work out how hot it really is..

YT showing only a little bit of commitment

YT and I spent about four hours recce-ing Pelverata on Thursday because we knew it was a "money" stage, and after changing and refining nearly every note, we were both confident that no one would beat them over that stage :D

I'm proud that we were right, 12 seconds quicker than anyone I think?! :D

Isn't there a rule somewhere that says you ain't supposed to do that!!? LOL

Kudos to him for the amount of effort he puts into his recce work though. I remember him telling me he watches a minimum 4hrs of video a night in the 4 weeks leading up to Targa in preparation. And he tends to only watch the sections where there are 4+ corners that are 8's and above in a row (if using 1-10).

Last year I drove over 32 of the 41 stages once beforehand and that was it (so 9 stages I never saw at all before I raced them). But I know I suck at the fast stuff and this is why.

I thought you weren't supposed to do more than 2 passes as it is classified as "practicing'?

I know plenty of people do though and that the serious guys spend at least 2-3 weeks down in Tas doing recce before the event. It's a fair commitment to an "amateur" event!

I can aabosolutely promise we didn't do more than three passes, seriously! We stopped and talked, walked some, discussed note timing etc..... not practicing :) I'm not saying you're alluding we did, just clarifying we didn't :)

Are you suffering any pad buildup? I run the same rotors on mine and they've been quite good.

To be honest, I can sometimes get a vibration even though the rotors have been skimmed, and a guru once told me its because I wasn't working them hard enough, and to just keep abusing them and drive through the vibration until eventually it goes away. True to his word, it worked!

Giant will back me, we had the identical situation in his Evo at Bathurst and punishing them harder made them better!

LOL - I'm not saying you did! :)

I'm just clarifying that there IS a rule that says you can't!

But then there is also a rule that says you must do the speed limit during recce and yet *allegedly* there were a lot of people doing a touch over 60km/hr up and down the Airwalk road last week as well. Probably none of them were doing recce - but there was a dude in a silver VW Golf whose missus must have been giving birth in the back seat or something as he sure was in a hurry! :)

i spottoed the line of mazda bater cars followed by a purple rx7 and a gunmetal r32 gtr with r33 gtr wheels on a truck and trailer. does the gtr belong to someone on here?

That would be our black Skyline which my lovely wife was running at the event (car 832). She was going very well until the motor started to miss Saturday afternoon, finally dieing first stage Sunday. Not sure on the problem yet but heaps of blue smoke from exhaust and oil breather, so maybe piston/rings etc.

Any suggestions on pistons etc for the rebuild from those here smarter than me? I think pistons and a 1mm overbore are now allowed in EM rules? The block is genuine N1 (24U) so hopefully rods and crank are ok?

Many thanks to Adam Spence and the Mazda boys for taking the car back up the Island, and all the other rally people for their help on and off the boat etc.

YT and I were recce'ing a tricky section, and couldn't work out a way to call the notes quite right, so figured a bit of "Left 4.5 immediate Ron Jeremey" would remind him of the section :) .... Gosh I wish I was there to hear Big John read it..... LMFAO

Hmmm, could be something i will need to look at/test on a track day. The vibrations were extremely violent though and i was worried too about the 2-piece rotors cracking or damaging the calliper or the wheel studs too push it any harder under brakes. That and if i tried to brake on anything other than a dead straight line the car wanted to 'skip' straight ahead instead of turning.

After slowing for the stop point on just about every stage i stayed off the brakes completely (and tried not to stop rolling for as long as possible) and by the start of the next stage normally the brakes would be fine for the first 3kms or so.
