After having just spoken to racing beat in the US about building a motor for me I am not so sure I want to sell all my organs plus any furure unborn children to have one of their engines. I am sure they are top notch, but circa 20-25k for a rotor engine build (complete long motor with turbo etc) is a bit beyond my budget.

But at the same time, happy to spend decent money to get something I hope will be reliable. Tassie is just too far to go for me to have a mechanical early on.

While RB did have a bit of a tech edge in the past with screw in ports, cooling mods to housings and so forth - even if they did use their alloy plates, ianettis they usually recommend, 2 piece eccentrics and so forth, that's well OTT.

consider going japanese? they know how to make a good rotor motor. had my FD RZ's motor built in japan at a shop called pre-stage. was bloody quick (in build time) and performed very well. Cost was reasonable too.

There's no secret sauce in any country - although some of the locals practicing the art here probably would have been more suited to wild west blacksmith occupations. Your ex-RZ went ker-blammo very shortly after the sale.

i am really trying to get excited about building an early rotor to run in classic but am finding it hard to get really excited about it. Probabaly should have just kept the evo :(

One of the long time classic rotor guys did the switch this year, damaging the now 30k + Rx3 probably the turning point. There will be someone else doing the switch too next year.:whistling: With the price of rotor engine parts going through the roof, you can basically get 4 cylinder rods and forged pistons with change for two new rotor housings.

If you want to persist..... it's no Rx7 though.....

Hearing ya Ben. Advice I was given very early on was don't head to Targa with anything you can't afford or risk throwing in the bush.

Funny thing, guy I mentioned some pages ago with the GTR, ended up having to make lease payments on two cars after writing one of them off at TT.....when these were worth a bit of coin too.

^^^^ There are just so many ways to crash at Targa and sooo many variables. Even with the best intentions, some rain and a fluid spill or something else unexpected could easily have you off the road.... and then there is always the red mist to contend with if you get passed or are getting caught.... :)

the RX4 on my105 looks pretty good value. especially with 2 engines and another in bits!

but yeah rotors can be a whole lot of pain. but when going well they are great.

    • I like it when the counter chick leads you out the back into the racks and says "have a grub around in here and see if you can find what you need. I'll be back in a few minutes. Just left me in front of a massive motorised shelving system and 2-3 million fasteners, so I could find a peculiar SS shoulder bolt with cap head. Gotta love country towns.

    • It's about the same time for me from Bunnings, or the Fasteners. My big push away from takeaway food, and gluten in general keeps me away from the Bunnings Snags too! Weather up here, I've been out for two walks today in the beautiful sunshine. Had a few little drizzles, and some wind, that honestly, a tin of beans and I could compete on how harsh she blows Thankfully, being this bit inland, we're not getting anything much really. Will probably pick up a bit more when/if Cyclone Alfie decides to come ashore. A few areas in the GC though, and south into NSW are really getting smashed though! Right now, I'm just annoyed Alfie hasn't hit, as I'm not allowed to crack into the BBQ foods like the bacon and eggs until the Cyclone hits "In case we lose power"...
    • I love fastener joints, the price difference between them and joints like Bunnings or Super Cheap is amazing, and they either have exactly what you want, or they can get it to quick They have even given me some for free when I only needed a couple of specific size In saying this, I have paid premium for fasteners from Bunnings if they have the sizes I need, but only for convenience really, as my local is only 10 minutes away, the Sushi joint near them is also a consideration  How's the weather Matt?     • Wideband is worth setting up if only for tuning purposes. I would not mess with the ignition system unless there's a misfire. HKS crank trigger is popular out here for the relatively easily sourced Denso crank sensor, not a bad idea to install as well regardless of power level on a standalone. Boost leak test is worth thinking about. Oil pressure sensor tied to a fuel cut isn't a bad idea either. Getting the tune figured out is a good idea. Without putting eyes on it and getting under it there's no way for us to tell you exactly what it needs but most likely you're down to the last 10% that will make a big, big difference in how happy you are with the car.
