Tarmac Rallying Perpetual Thread

Recommended Posts

I am seriously looking mate, in conjunction with a close friend. The car is good, it's me with the mental barrier.

Also, as I'm not at all familiar with the things, my big concern is running it against the known contenders, only to have a protest lodged for something that I wasn't aware wasn't factory or legal.

At least with a Datto I really have no one to blame except myself.

What's the deal with importing race/rally reg cars from Europe? Assuming the 12 month ownership rule doesn't apply, but is it very difficult and are you able to get rally reg on them here?

Lets talk FWD... Lol! I reckon Snowman should get back to the idea of a Scirocco or Gti-R Golf or something.

They are also on my (ever growing) short list! Well the Golf R and the Scirocco R are anyways.

The list as it currently stands is

Rebuild another GTR

NSX-R

RX7

Louts Esprit (thats the Brisby coming out in me).

Or go something newer like the TT-RS or the VW option. The new car thing might appeal if I can also make it an Enduro car for Bathurst 12hr.

The only thing I do know is doing something with the 35 doesn't appeal. And neither does an EMO.

I have a frustrating hunk of engine-less metal and a Porka hankering!

Ben: Have you known anyone who's done it before?

I don't know the exact details Dane, but people do it all the time. Quinns GTR's spring to mind, both imports from NZ.

Just on the TT-RS, what an impressive piece of kit they are. A friend of mine is wanting to move on from hid genuine 996 Turbo S, and I think I'll recommend one of these new Audis. Very impressive and sound mint. :(

Given that this year both Matt and Maher's cars were showroom + a flash tune I'm sure there is a lot more to be seen from these cars in the future.

I did say to Matt at Lake Mountain that they would become the new EVO once people saw what he did in his! But I rate them highly. 1300kgs FTW!

And they look good in Blue! :(

Although the AVUS matt one looks even better. Infact I wonder if under the special "Super Alphabet ATTKD SP" rules you can run an AVUS TT-RS??? lol

LOL - more like looking for a competative advantage.

Because the big problem with the TT-RS is it means going head-to-head with Matt Close and then I'm likely to be shown for the hack I truely am!

Thats where you are wrong! :( I so wish i could have afforded to lose the 10,000pound bond on the R400 last year. Would have been great to have a real go and use full revs at Spa in the lesser R400. They are so much fun to drive.

Tricky pedals, gearbox, no abs, plenty of traction, no power so if you get a corner wrong you cant just step on it and play catch up...it was about a little bit of a gain on every corner apex and so much fun trying to go quicker and quicker...because it could simply go so deep under barkes, be turned in so much later and still make the apex

I cant see how something like an R500 woulnt be a blast, competitive and rewarding to drive. After driving one in semi anger i am less excited about trying to go fast in a steel bodied production car. (as a driver) But to spin the tools on one i still like the idea of getting the same car you run to the shops in to be quick.

I like ya Roy, I really do, but ya wierd man.

Big difference playing with one on a track, not so much fun with trees trying to eat you one foot from the side of the road. Just not safe enough in my eyes.

    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
    • I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)
    • Either way he still need those style of spacer to go into the manifold because the photo he currently has is not going to work
    • You can just get the injector bosses, which allows top feeds to fit. He can use the same injectors without issue, like these (another option): https://rocketindustries.com.au/af59-2210-rb25-fuel-injector-inserts     The Racework ones look a bit better: https://www.nzefi.com/product/raceworks-lower-injector-mounting-boss-kit-for-r33-rb25det-s14-s15-sr20det/   You could also just get a similar kit like the Radium one by Plazmaman: https://plazmaman.com/product/nissan-rb25det-r33-billet-fuel-rail/?srsltid=AfmBOoogfYq49X0fu2Wdbf8yOf6zt9egyPAif_gn3Qr3G8hzAphhTgOkO70
