Our car is almost alive again. it's all aligned and engine is back in. And the Guards and Bar will probably be respayed in the new year. Also got a 80mm Trust Ti-R coming, and a Power FC Pro.

Hey quick question for all you rally pro's - I got my pace notes for Wrest Point yesterday (very exciting!)

But I'd just like a quick definition explination if I can.

I know /o = over crest and /oo = over flat crest. But what exactly is a flat crest? Does that mean it only has an up (so flat on top rather than an up then down) or does it mean its a crest you take flat out?

Yeah well blind corners are no problems. There's nothing a handbrake and some opposite lock can't fix. But crests are a whole new ball game!

OK, /o is read over crest, it's normally adjacent to something like an /o into or R4/o, whatever.

oo/ is read and I like read as striaght over crest, flat crest can be a little dangerous and misleading. Some guys say "flat over crest" but that can end in tears.

Typically during recce we look at it, and if it's safe, then we say "flat over crest", and make a note on the notes like, FLAT, GO!!!, and the Nav will say again, "yes it's flat" if he has time.

For instance on say, South Rianna stage, there's some long straits with blind crests, and they are indeed flat in 5th (with a little lift to settle the car for landing), but later in the stage there's oo/ then (then being about 100m) into L3, so you don't want to be flat. Thats the time the nav needs to be well aware and reading those notes together, and they should be underlined to ensure that they are.

I hope thats not confusing, I have trouble explaining things without my hands! lolol

Edit: And it doesn't reference the shape of the crest, ie, yump or jump, it's purely the direction of the road.

The tulips you'll learn to respect most are (well for me anyway) are the "ON C", ie, a grading and direction on a crest, where the middle of the corner is close to the peak of the crest.

Thats where alot of slower guys tuck right into and hug the corner to be safe, only to drag gravel onto the fast line, all for you to come up and onto the crest with a bit on, to find lovely marbles there trying to wash out the car..... I'm always extra careful on those, rerally try to apex those ones late so you have a little extra room on the back side of the crest.
