I posted this on another forum and one of the members told me about this site and said I would get better help here b/c you all actually work on your cars!

Hi, First let me say that I'm from the U.S., so there is VERY limited knowledge to the skyline's here. Reguardless, I'm the new owner of a 98 ER34. It had a R32 Rb26 swapped into it and it needs alot of TLC. I looked around for skyline forums and this one seems to be the best one so I thought I would just post on here for help with my car. Hope you guys don't mind. From the threads that I've read, most of you all seem to be very cordial and helpful, so Thank You in advance.

Ok, so to start off I'm going to list some of the problems the car has (I'm sure i won't remember them all right now, so Ill add them as I go along). And then maybe some of you can point me in the right direction as to what I need to do.

I have some hesitation issues and originally thought the coilpacks may need to be relplaced, but after reading some of the other threads it seems the hesitation comes after 4500 RPM's and most of my hesitation comes before that.

Also, it has an intercooler kit off of fleabay. The "autobahn 88". I noticed that there is no blow-off or recirculation valve and there are some "pipes" that come off of the turbos are taped offshakehead.gif. It would be helpful if someone could show me some detailed pictures of the charge piping system.

Let's see, the "TCS" light and "slip" light stay on all the time. Along with the "(ABS)" light and "HICAS" light. The car had HICAS on it but it now has a HICAS delete so I'm sure that has something to do with some of them, but l'm also pretty sure there has to be a way to solve this.

The power steering pump doesn't line up with the crank pulley so I'm thinking it's the original one that went to the RB25. What's the common fix for this? I was thinking either get a rb25 crank pulley or get a rb26 powersteering pump. I think the pump would be easier, but would the lines bolt up no problem or what?

Also the speedometer and oil temperature guage don't work. I haven't looked into the oil temo guage yet, but the car has the original transmission so I dont know why the speedo wouldn't work.

The car also registers that it's overheating! It's weird because when I first turn the key to the on position, the needle automatically go's to the middle of the guage (normal operating temperature)...and after driving the car for some time, the needle moves up close to the top of the guage...about the same distance it would move if it started at the bottom...I'm wondering if it's the wiring...I've swapped out the temp sensors already.

Sorry, I know this is alot and maybe some of it sounds like a alot of newbie questions, but there really isn't any info for these cars over here!

Thanks

Nick

Here's some pics of the car as well!

Here's a pic of how I don't have any kind of intake. Does anybody know of a kit that comes with everything I need to Have the correct set-up?

Here's two pics of the taped off portions of the turbos.

holy crap... where to start.

um i have a manual that i can find a link for you to dl. it will give you a much better idea where pipes go on a rb26.

to me it sounds like an incompatibility problem. stuff on the old neo rb25 were connected to your wiring that the rb26 can do. im no guru, but you got some big job ahead of you.

there should be some dudes around here that know about compatibility between rb25 and 26. otherwise, just keep searching.

Search function came out with similar conversions to yours.

I don't really have much knowledge on this kind of swap as RB26DETT engines are rare here and they never come complete hence making the swap extremely difficult. When i got my R33 GTS25t it had a blown engine and i did souce out a RB26DETT but the hardware was not complete and the rebuild will take alot of money hence i decided to stick with another RB25DET from a R33 Chasis.

apexi power intake kit will sort out your filters (nengun or greenline onlie stores - maybe ebay - search :( )

taped off intake looks to be the BOV return that isnt hooked up. have a look under the drivers side guard to see if they retained the std GTR BOVs

RB26 power steering pump required - or modifiy the PS pump bracket to fit it.

as for

"Let's see, the "TCS" light and "slip" light stay on all the time. Along with the "(ABS)" light and "HICAS" light. The car had HICAS on it but it now has a HICAS delete so I'm sure that has something to do with some of them, but l'm also pretty sure there has to be a way to solve this."

TCS is only available on the r34gtt - so with the rb26dett there isnt any TCS controller

Btw if you got the RB26DETT off a Front Cut, the swap would have been much smoother as you can swap everything from the gearbox till wiring with no problems at all.

Ya, I bought the car as it sits...If I had my choice I would've had the car w/ the stock neo in it, then if I did a swap, I probably would go this route.

THANK YOU! This is exactly the kind of answers I needed!!!

I've seen the intakes for sale, but never a picture, so I wanted to just ask to see if I would need anything else before I went and spent that money on something that wouldn't be complete.

I looked under the driver's side, where I had also realized is the stock mounting locatin for GTR BOV's and there's nothing there! I would like to just have the stock recirculation valves so that my air/fuel mixture will be better for now. I'll post up in the correct subn forum that I'm looking for those.

I recently met a friend with a R32 w/ a rb25 and realized we have the same powersteering pump and bracket, so that confirms what you said about the powersteering issue. Question, if I just buy a RB26 pump, will the RB25 lines just hook up to it? I would like to confirm this before spending all of the money to still need more things!

THANK YOU for the info on the TCS, that would've taken awhile to figure out! What would you suggest as a "fix" for this. I know I could just pull the light out, but if there is a more..."proper" way I'm all ears.

Oh, and I think the ECU was swapped as well, but I can't find any info on skyline ecu's...It says "R3" in bold and the rest of the numbers are kinda hard to make out. but I think the top line on the stamp is- 23710-24U00. Is this out of a R32 GTR like my motor was?

Thanks again!

If there isn't a TCS module installed, then yes you could pull the light out, or find out how to fool it into thinking there is one installed. The member to speak to about this would be 666DAN - he's responsible for the TCS-off switch.

If the power steering is hooked up, then i would just space it out. do a search in the R33 RB30 conversion thread under forced induction for some idea on how to space it out, similar problem for RB30 guys running an rb26 harmonic balancer. (i wouldnt buy a 32 GTR ps pump as they are modded more to run non-hydrolic HICAS - which may or may not be working now for you)

GTR ECU wont be able to control the TCS anyway, so no point trying to hook it up, it also runs infront of the TB which sorta wouldnt work easily with the RB26 intake manifold and 6 TB's.

apexi power intake kit comes with the metal piping from the AFM to the filters.

good luck!

G'day,

Temp sensor won't work due due different resistance setting (R32 GTR sensor to R34 GT-T dash) going to a different dash won't help thats why the loom is usually swapped and/or the dash is replaced for an R32/34 GTR dash.

Speedo on r32 gearbox is cable so if it has a R33GTS-T or R34GT-T Gearbox unless it's not wired correctly it should work.

Ecu is a GTR ecu (24U).

GTR powersteer pumps are full hydraulic twin pump unit for rear hicas steering rack, and if you want to use that you would take out the impellers from the rear pump section (in forums somewhere). You should be able to hook it up to your reservoir plumbing and lines to the rack with a bit of messing around.

Hope this helps....

Cheers,

GTRsean

Great info, thanks alot! Everyone I ask says the Apexi intake is all I need, so that's getting ordered as well. I wasn't interested in putting the TCS on, I was just curious about it for future reference.

G'day? I am american and I do wish I could hear the accents (well it's an accent to me) and sentance structures!

Ya, I'm gonna try a temp sensor out of a Nissan year model close to mine and see if that fixes it. It still seems odd to me though, because I would think the operating temperature would be the same for both motors, so the sensors would also be the same. But then again, there may very well be something else that is the reason for the difference in the sensors.

Ya, I'm thinking since I have a R32 ECU, it doesn't send out a signal to the speedometer because of having a cable setup on R32's, so that explains the speedo not working.

Thank...and Cheers!

If there isn't a TCS module installed, then yes you could pull the light out

Sage advice from Howie, in this case it's the best option as you're not using any of the R34 systems or ECU, the only time I'd recommend ignoring those damn lights!!!

If the R34 speed sender in like the 33 electronic one, the speed goes to the Dash first, then is sent to the ECU. so your dash should be working unless they changed the Gearbox.

Really? Well I guess I'm going to have to reasearch this some more then because everything concerning the gearbox is the same. It must be the wiring from the gearbox to the spliced harness to the dash. Thanks for the info.

Or buy a GTR dash.

Don't do that!!!!! They're more trouble than the whole engine swap, the R34 GTT and GTR dash are far from a straight swap, you need to rewire all three plugs to get the pin orientation correct.
