Roy
After being pulled over on the weekend, reality has set in. My car is simply too loud. Some of this could be because of the exhasut leak i currently have, but even still it requires attention. My RB20 has a 3" HKS Hyper exhaust, running a muffler/resinator/cat. Looking at the exhasut tip it would seem the HKS muffler can take one of those diffusers/baffles whatever they are called. Im hoping they make a dramatic difference to exhasut noise, i dont really care about performance, i just want a cheap and easy way to quiten the old girl up. Anyone had experience with running one of these baffles in the Hyper exhaust???? Mr R32 M-Spec
This is why I haven't changed my exhaust yet. I want to so badly just to get a bit more sound out of mine. I am pretty sure mine is below the legal limit and you can always hear my engine over the exhaust. good luck with the exhaust mate, any defects or fines? Roy
No, just came clean and mentioned that i was aware that its a little on the loud side, mentioned that the car was coming in for some servicing in the next week, ie fix exhaust leak, new tyres etc etc. Was only driving when i had to until i got it all fixed. I think a clean driving record does wonders in these situations. Steve
Roy, the joeys that go in the back of the exhaust make a pretty big difference - quieten things right down to a purr. That was on a mates supra with an N1 exhaust anyways, so I would expect the same. D1 Garage have one (or two) second hand ones sitting on their shelf at the moment, I dont know how much they want for them, but I dont think it would be huge. GTS-t VSPEC
I have no center muffler, no car, no resonators, just a rear Apexi N1 muffler, and mine is quieter than some poeple with all the stuff in, so I can't figure out why there's are noisier than mine. Roy
Mine was always whisper quiet, but different turbo setup put an end to that. Its now a bloody banshee, all the hoods in my area stop and look now as i buzz down the street. Mr R32 M-Spec
what turbo did you put on there, I have a new one for mine and don't want it to get too loud:( the guy at the RTA told me to turn my car on when he was standing infront of it, I told him it was already running and he had a puzzled look on his face Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/22832-help-with-exhaust/#findComment-490229 Share on other sites
GTS-t VSPEC
I'm having my new turbo put on by the end of this week, will be interesting to see if the sound changes. Jetdat
Well i have a cat back HKS system, it has a nice but a softish note, not too loud... i am currently thinking about getting custom dump, 3 inch pipe to cat and a 3 inch high flow cat... is anyone able to tell me if this will make it too loud? As the car is everyday driver i do not want it over the limit. GTS-t VSPEC
Jetdat, There is no real way to know how the exhaust note will sound until it is done, it seems like all cars even with similar exhausts make different sounds. Roy
Im thinking new turbo has a lot to do with it. Aftermarket turbo setups arent really designed to be quiet. Oh well its worth it when i hit boost, the TD06 has more grunt at 8 psi then my old turbo at 15psi. ... but just need to tame it for the street, i dont car if those baffles drop power below stock as i drive lke an old lady on the street... for that matter on the track as well:rolleyes: Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/22832-help-with-exhaust/#findComment-491324 Share on other sites
BOOSTMEISTER
Go bigger than 3" and that will solve your issue. Mine was 4" and was actually a lot quieter than a mates 3" I only had a cat (sometimes) and a second muffler half way then the rear can Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/22832-help-with-exhaust/#findComment-491524 Share on other sites
