oil additives

nulon, slick50 etc oil additives seem a good idea in theory, but i'm very hesitant to add anything to my engine oil. anyone had any personal experience or got technical knowledge concerning these????

I've used Lucas cylinder head oil additive for 3 years now, no dramas...

I get no dramas from using straight synthetic oil, so I see no reason to add stuff in that can't be of any benefit. Since there was no problem to begin with. Over 100k km on the odometer and not using a single drop of oil between oil changes, what more could I ask for?

If you use good synthetic oils such as Mobil1, there is no need for additives.

Personally i would stay away from any such product including those oil flush products which you are supposed to add to engine before an oil change.

Years ago i had an engine on its last legs, and was recommended to use the stop smoke additive(very thick honey like substance) in order to get a few more months out of the engine, but the engine became very very ill and died within days.

Another experience i had was when we pulled a mate's engine apart to see why it had no oil pressure and suddenly died after he put in an additive similar to stop smoke, the engine internals were covered with thick sticky carbon/oil/grease like substance which blocked all the oil galleries and consequently cooked the engine.

It took us forever to clean the engine parts that this additive coated.

So yeah i say just use good oil and dont worry about additives.

i had a knock goin for a while, chucked that Nulon additive in, its blue which freaked me out, however knock dissappeared instantly

IN alot of the guides that i have read on oil theorys that they allways state not to use oil additives. If you car is smoking because of old age etc. Use a thicker rating oil usally that stops it, unless its a more serious problem. But not worth it and None are %100 tested nor have been proven.
