Hey guys,

Just wanted to get an idea of what was more expensive brand new in Japan. Take for example a :

- Manual 6-Speed 350z 2003 Track. and

- Manual 6-Speed V35 350GT 2003 Premium

both optioned with 18" factory rims.

Any ideas?

From memory 350z base model started from $65k new, and the 350GT would've been around $38-40k? correct me if im wrong...

btw, the Z price would've been australian, and GT is Japanese price...

Well according to the US, the v35 costs about USD5000 more

thats based on a cost base of 30-35K US, So the equivalent here would be 7-10k AUD here

if the v35 was sold here, I'd expect the preium to have gone for about 70k AUD.

Yes i've read that on G35driver forums also. That's why I was wondering what the price difference would be in Japan.

But then again the G35 wore an Infinity badge, which automatically inflates vehicle price I reckon.

I think from memory they were more expensive in Japan as well.

The V35 if you take 03/04 for example, "track"version, both cars were identically spec'd, with the V35 having more options, being a larger car, with two extra seats. Why would they charge less??

Both had 18's

Both had Brembo's,

Both had the same engine

Both had the same running gear

V35 was longer so more "material" costs

I'm trying to get a hold of sales brochures for the 2003 versions of the Z33 350Z and the V35 350GT in japan.. having no luck so far. Would be interesting to get a definitive answer I reckon.

Material costs have nothing to do with the end price.

Eg: Do you really think that the cost to build an MX-5 is that much more than a Mazda 6 because it has a soft top? It's because it sells an image.

It wouldnt suprise me if the Base Zed is a fair bit more than the Base V35... but when you start specking up... then you start paying for "luxury" "tax's"

I dont know which would be more expencive, but it wouldnt suprise me the (lack of) "logic" of pricing scales for the two vehicles.

Being a grey import a V35 will always be valued a lot less in the eye of the buyers. and that drives the prices down, plus the initial new prices of 350Z are set by official Nissan dealers with their dealer delivery charges etc, and that translate to the average used car prices by working of the average depreciation over time.

A V35 350Gt probably gonna cost more or less the same with the same year local 350Z with almost double the km. That means a local 350Z with the same year and same km with the 350GT will be more expensive.

But we're just trying to an idea on the sticker prices *new* from japan.. e.g. timewarp back to 2003 and I was a japanese guy looking at a brand new car, what was more expensive at that time?

It's more of a curiosity thing, i don't care what's actually more expensive, just that I heard from someone that the 350GT was more expensive to buy new.. just thought i'd try to confirm that rumour.

I think the "ST" was the "Track" so from the press releases, the top 350Z was Y40,000 more expensive, but you could probably add a lot more options to the Skyline to make it more expensive overall. The "S" had the Brembos too which would make it a closer equivalent to the Skyline (a tad softer) therefore I would use that as the more accurate comparison, making the Skyline more expensive (as you would expect).

Anyway, the Skyline is far better value as a grey import (and I looove it sooo much).

Skyline Coupe (6MT Premium - $34263AUD)

350Z (6MT "S" - $31761AUD, "ST" - $34648AUD)

Or on historical rates (80.76Y:$1AUD at 01/07/2003)

Skyline Coupe (6MT Premium - $44081)

350Z (6MT "S" - $40861AUD, "ST" - $44576AUD)

That's awesome value, considering you can get a V35 for roughly 30-40% cheaper than the equivalent Z33 350Z today on the 2nd hand market.
