Correct they won't fine you, last year I made the mistake of taking my car over the pits with the cat replacement pipe fitted instead of a cat. I didn't get fined, just had it noted on my work order that a cat converter needed to be fitted.

it all depends how much power you want... spec-m intercooler and the hi-flow cats from just jap are good, but you won't be preparing yourself for huge power.. if you just after a reasonable increase without chasing huge numbers then these are cheap and excellent options.

That is what I'm thinking, for now my immediate target is for around 230/240rwkw, give or take. My ultimate target is up around the 300 mark..

For the exhaust though, don't get the front dump custom. Kermit will even tell you that. Get one of the stainless front dumps Just Jap make. They are pretty cheap and top quality.

Muffler choice is a bit more important than I first thought when I got a muffler for my R33. You need to decide how you want it to sound and how loud you want it to be too. This will determine the shape of the muffler. Important things are that it is a straight through muffler so there is less restriction. If you want it quieter and deeper, get an oval shape muffler. If you want it loud and proud get a cannon.

Hmmm, where did you get your cannon? I've gone around to KYP and I haven't heard back, looking at getting myself either a trust/greddy muffler or a kaki if I can... I'm looking at any importer/workshop that can at least get back to me within a week...

On the front/dump, that is what I was thinking anyways, I remember Kermit telling me that himself..

I have a few mates into 4WDing and they all had this same issue. 3 of them went to "high flow" air filters and they were fine in the city, but caused problems letting crap into the wrong side of the inlet due to the bigger flow rate (coarser mesh) in the pods. Keep the airbox and use a K&N or equivalent panel filter, and ckeep an eye on the "clean" side of your airbox on long runs. You may be very suprised at what they actually let through (especially on the albany and great southern hwys)

Hmmm, maybe a custom airbox could be possible, I've seen the odd few in HPI and the likes... Who would stock them in WA? or could get them in at least??

Couldn't you make an air box? Aluminium, welded into a box, allow the pod filter in, and seal it all up. Or allow put a cover on the bonnet so that it seals when the bonnet it closed, but is open and easily accessed (and visable) when its open?

Might be worth looking at an ARC airbox, much, much better than stock box... as good or better than a pod+airbox setup.

Think there around $450 and are a bolt in replacement.

For the muffler, I got mine from ebay for the R33. For the R34 I've decided to spend a bit more and I have a muffler from a company called SMB. The specialise in exhausts. This one should sound awesome. Its not a cannon, but rather an oval shape. This will keep it slightly quieter with a deeper note :D

Make the custom air box yourself. Thats what I'm doing after I get my front mount. Its pretty easy. There is even a tute on here with a pictures and a drawing with measurements to suit the R34. It looks really good, and its the way I'm going

Is that an airbox for panel-filter/stock replacement or a box for pod setup???

Can anybody here read Japanese???

Saw this on Nengun corresponding to their latest edition to their intercooler lineup, the LS Spec (Which has succeeded the Spec-M).

Well the difference between no cat and the x-force 3" lo-flow POS, is chalk and cheese. Made my engine doughy and less responsive and the seat of the pants dyno told me it lost a good 30-50hp.

Hey bubba i have full xforce 3"tbe with xforce cat obviously. I noticed that even when i took resonator and silencer off it still sounds f**k all. I am going to put a de cat pipe on there. Do you reckon that will up the performance much and sound wise what would it do?

other mods fmic, ebc, pod, apexi pfc

cheers dude

Well this is what I've decided on thus far..

kakimoto10zmuffler.jpgkakimoto10zmuffler2.jpg

Kakimoto Muffler.

- 3.5" Inlet

- 3.75" Tip

- Stainless

- Canon Type

xfmetalcat.jpg

Catco 3.5 inch cat.

- Stainless

- 3.5" Flanged

- Flows Up To 886CFM

- Gaskets Included

With Kermit to do the zorst for $650 custom...

Now to decide on a suitible Split/Front dump pipe... JJR don't provide these for the R34 GTT.. What are some other options???

As above, I'm also looking into an Spec-LS Trust-Greddy intercooler... Anybody know of someone in Perth that already has them or can get them in by around Chrissie/New years??? Maybe sooner??

Yeah I think losing that xforce cat will increase your performance a bit in terms of responsiveness (made a big difference in my car but I was trying to push 3L exhaust gasses through that shitty cat), with a decat pipe it will sound awesome at revs but maybe a little truck like at idle. More than welcome to have a listen to mine if you want :D

we will be stocking the new greddy cheap fmics when stocks of the mspecs wind up . there really is no difference in quality , there still made in the same china factory , although quality if very good for china.

the catco metal cat is a bit expensive for the minimal gains you get with your proposed setup . my 33 4 door had a full xforce setup , including their cheap hiflow cats and the car made an extra 15hp with the whole exhaust removed . thats really not that bad for a cheap exhaust to only drop 15hp. remember you have to run some sort of exhaust , so what do you stand to gain from a better expensive exhaust system, 7-10 hp maybe ? you could spend the extra 1k your going to pay in much better places

that was with a hks gtrs pulling 330rwhp , perhaps with a massive turbo things would have been more restrictive but thats the same sort of setup your aiming for anyway

Mark... there are not really any options for a split dump for the R34's :(

I've looked into this quite a bit. HKS make some split dumps, but then you also have to buy the front pipe. Being HKS, you pay big money, and its just a damn pipe. I'm just going the bell mouth front dump. The gains to be had with a split dump over a bell mouth setup is not worth the many extra dollars imo. If just jap made a split dump, I would get it as they do a good price, but I spoke to them and they have no plans to make one for the R34 :(

The just jap front dump is about $200 from memory, which is really good. I'm basically doing the same as you. 3" all the way. I've got a different muffler though. It arrived yesterday :D

1: Please Alastair, give us a hoy when the new ones come in, I'm keen as (also, likewise let me know when the R34 Vi-pecs also come in). :D

2: China? I thought all Trust-GReddy stuff was made in Japan??? I thought X-force and the likes were China?? :D

Hmm, so the HKS one isn't a split front dump???

I was thinking of getting one as I'm entertaining he idea of getting a HKS turbo at some stage in the future...

No... HKS is one of the few that do make a split dump, but its rather expensive. Most HKS turbo's require a different dump anyway, so its probably worth just getting a just jap pipe while you're running the stock turbo and then getting the HKS one when you upgrade turbos
