Let the haters get mad. Ignore them, provoke them, I dont care; it all depends on your own prerogative. Just be damn sure you're ready to deal with the consequences.

-D

Thats it right there.

Why the hell should there be consequences in the first place?

Consequences for what>?

Owning a Japanese car?

I swear, Japan is not mainstream in Oz yet...left over bitterness from WW2?

Im conjecturing but i have a ton of Japanese friends in Oz who would argue the same thing...my Wife is one of them

Consequences of getting our of your car and starting static against some brain dead incubus who hates your car. Sometimes fighting fire with fire works. Sometimes it does not.

Well thats a very good point tho I'd argue theyre in reality, 20 years behind technologically speaking. The build quality of aussie cars is OK, probably not as good as some others but then again build quality varies drastically from model to model (even with the same brands and production lines, sometimes a minor design flaw will condemn a car to be a lemon its entire life. Ford Pinto anyone?

Aus car manufactureres just haven't got the R&D money to spend. And that shows when you compare a 20 year old GTR with a fresh of the line holden or falcon. And even then they were designed for completely different purposes so its like comparing apples and oranges.

I will say tho, for every hater you get in Aus on a Jap or Euro car, theres easily another person who respects and venerates them. The GTR didn't get its rep in Australia by listening to foreign opinions....people just respected them because they can talk the talk and walk the walk. If a bogan wants to get shitty at me while driving a family car like a Commi or Falcon, f**k em. Get mad. Go and buy a torana or an XB falcon and then show me what aussie muscle can do. Thankfully such twits are a minority and most of the time we just get people checking the car out cause its something different.

It seems as if you cant win.

There are people that drive shitboxes who just hate Japanese cars for hatings sake.

Then you get others that drive something similar but try to start a shitfight for nothing more than exactly that - shits and kicks.

Seriously, is it worth coming back because ive read through this and its given me a glimpse back into what i ended up leaving over./.

I simly couldnt stand these sorts of things.

Theres racial tolerance to a certain extent and within ones own kind or group, but in oz but i dont think theres any equality or parity to it at all across the boards...

( I dont count giving each other shit as a point - thats when you KNOW them )

Im doing it again..but the thing is im dealing with the same type of context here in Tokyo.

Man it can be cold here sometimes but i NEVER get threatened, hit, spat on, have NEVER experiences violence or seen violence or anything the likes of which i know exists in oz...

It doesnt just have to do with cars...

Sorry if this is pushing a wrong button somewhere or other but im not going to stand around idle...

I think you make a good point; That japanese society in general is a hell of a lot more polite than our own. I dont know the cause/effect relationship that makes a country of so called laid back people (aka us) do stupid stuff like road rage. Alcohol/drug consumption no doubt plays its part, but when a japanese person gets drunk they usually go to karaoke or they abuse their boss (its ok to abuse your boss if you're drunk over there.)

Depends on where you are. I know the Ainu in Hokkaido got culturally repressed for a long time and only recently gained official recognition from the Japanese govt. And on the same token you cant say that japanese are culturally docile (just read about the rape of nanjing, or anything about changi)... two very different sides of the coin..

I think you'll find that there are dickheads in any part of the globe. The reasons why we have so many, you'd have to ask a sociologist with multiple Ph.D's for the right answer (and probably need a PhD yourself to understand it). I know the japanese very strict on crime compared to us (esp where drugs and substances are concerned), they possibly have better mental health care, or less of a gap between social classes. Who really knows?

All well put.

Im not so sure its more "polite" as you put it but definitely a heck of a lot more tolerant.

Theres no open hostility.

My car and myself are safe here...

Thing is i want to come back to do some business but if i do..i have to move back and that freaks me out a bit.

Owning the only Sti Forester in SA surely cant be a good thing...

I have nightmares about that thing getting torched or stolen, keyed... not good...im farking losing sleep over it.

One more thing...

The alcohol limit here is ZERO.

with ZERO tolerance.

Get caught with even a gram of weed, youre getting booted out.

but...its culturally accepted and socially encouraged to get out there, mod the crap out of your car or bike and have a rollicking good thrash through the hills on a quiet moring at around 3 am...

which is exactly what i did last night...

Good times and stress free.

Its definitely not that bad. Sure cars get stolen. I've owned mine for close to 8years. Never touch wood has an attempted been made to break in to it.

The only harassment you may get with the Suby is some young 'bogan' yelling out to you PSSSHHHTTT as you drive past.

I must admit turbo's are much more accepted these days compared to 7years ago though.

When I first bought mine I would receive nothing but PSSHHHTT remarks from late teens early 20 yo kids. Now its more of a point look oh its a skyline fully sik do a burnout.. lol

Im a lecturer in a Uni here - part of the English department.

Its true. The things ive seen and been a part of could go into a book.

I highly recommend it - youll get a car that you can keep and export for much more than you paid for plus its a big part of the culture.

On any given day youll see bikes and cars with massive turbos, neons, huge sound systems, paint, bodykits - the works and they almost never get hassled. Ive been to places where people meet in droves massive amounts of people with everything you could think of in one area...every weekend./

It aint a bunnings car park and even though the cops come to shoo you away sometimes at midnight, they never defect anyone and then we all go racing on the wangan after.

Good times.

It really is a car afficianado's paradise here.

Check the Japan thread and have a good read if youre interested.

Pm if you need to ofcourse.

Yeah i do that to my mates too, its all good with mates, but there are people out there who dont care what their mates say, but as soon as someone they don't know says it, they blow up. i was in high school with a guy who was italian, said he hates australians and paid out the skips, not that i care about being called a skip, im a proud australian. has alot to do, i think, with how they are brought up too.

but yeah, teaspoon of cement all round i say :(

Reassuring cubes...

but then i click on the multiple "stolen" threads and my heart sinks.

I felt for the guy who had his Stag stolen and torched only days after getting it.

Made me feel a little ill.

Bringing the topic back to the pseudo politically correct argument of what constitutes a wog or a bogan; its got sod all to do with genetics. Being a wog or a bogan is a state of mind, a way of life.

Correct....I didn't think the term 'Bogan' discriminated between nationalities.....you don't have to be a Skip to be a Bogan!

And as for jap cars being shit? I think it comes down to what was said about bathurst; bathurst didnt start it, it just brought the ignorant attitudes of some petrol heads to the fore.

Correct again.....we used the term 'Jap Crap' back in the '70s because it was back then, just like stuff made in China today. Funny how times change cause now you wish stuff was made in Japan with all the cheap Chinese & Taiwanese stuff around ie. Panasonic & Daikin stuff used to be made in Japan....not anymore or it would be too expensive.

Aussie cars (Commo's, Falcon's, etc) are cheap to buy for your first car, therefore bogans love them.

What more do you want? 1-tyre skids, same old oval exhaust, same old V8 supercar kit and same old bogans driving them.

Plus people think Jap cars are 'plastic cars' and Aussie cars are 'beef cars'...

Who cares!

I appreciate all cars for what they are. I love the technology in the newer jap cars, and I enjoy the old school machines too. My mate's got an original HR Holden in absolute mint condition ... with a 350 Chev motor under the hood. I drool everytime I see this car, and vice versa ... he loves seeing my car.

No ones got a big "love my car" wand, so let the haters continue doing what they do best. :)

As for the the sphincter of the universes who need to road rage, as mentioned, just drive to the nearest cop shop (or service station with video cameras). Or my favourite ... just drive slow.

    • Hello, new to the group, I bought a R32 from auction recently, wondering if anyone knows the cars history, seems to have the usual go fast bits on it, plan is to do an engine swap- add 2 extra cylinders and 1 extra turbo. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/i4rjmlzubjbwjtguh6f4s/IMG20241011140744.jpg?rlkey=q0lumm251377vknbqktfwrycq&st=7scvwx4e&dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ro24qmwzlczzlfsr4y05x/Screenshot_2024-10-10-10-49-23-90_9a2f5bb2149dae94cd1e190effc09b33.jpg?rlkey=oyguh26ttshlf04ccp48odf4v&st=xloae97b&dl=0   New to forums and posting pics, if links don't work, take it easy on me, 42yrs old and I tune carburettors!!
    • As far as I know, Infiniti stopped importing vehicles before 2020, even though they were still selling their stock for at least a year or 2 after that, they were older build years, therefore, you can import a 2020 400R, because you couldn't buy an AuDM 2020 built Q50 RS. As for insurance, you might need to go through one of the enthusiast insurance companies, they tend to insure a lot more grey import models than the mainstream insurers as Duncan mentioned.
    • loved seeing the zenvo on the a1 just after the hatfield tunnel i was the guy in the white van trying to egg you on it sounded awesome and those exhausts glowing red inside insane cheers for the thumbs up tim and tom.
    • So.... when I'm finally getting around to having my power steering leak sorted, now it looks like I've got the same issue most A/T Skylines are having. My A/T light will randomly come on and I'm stuck in 3rd gear until I turn the car off and on again. Only 3 weeks ago I did a complete transmission service: Oil flush + new gasket + new filter. This came out of nowhere!! It wasn't like the car was driven hard. I drove about 3 mins down the road to get fuel and boom!!!  Anyway, I have a few questions and hope you fine people can help me out here. All questions are in red. 1. The solenoids: I was looking at the parts catalogue in Amayama and I could only find the Solenoids as an assembly. https://www.amayama.com/en/part/nissan/319404ax05 I read in another thread that Solenoid A = 31940-4AX02 & Solenoid B = 31940-4AX05 but the Amayama product has only the code of B. Is this the right part? Can anyone who has done the Solenoid changes or seen them confirm if this is the complete set of A & B?   2. Gasket and Filter: I'm not going to try change the solenoids myself because it seems difficult to do in a home garage with just 2 jack stands. I plan to take it to a shop and get it changed. I was also going to buy the transmission sump gasket at the same time so I don't reuse the same gasket. Should I just use the existing gasket as it has only been on the car since OCT 19th? (~3 weeks) Should I be buying a brand-new gasket and a filter? Does this job involve taking the filter out?   Thanks in advance to everyone. It's hard to find a video of someone doing a solenoid change on a R34 so any help you can give answering my remaining questions would make me less stressed.
