When cops get you with their radar guns to get your speed do they have to be stationary or moving?

I got busted by a cop who was on the otherside of the freeway and saw me flyin, im not sure if he pulled over and quickly got me or got me while he was driving?

For speed to be accurately calculated, the object whose speed is desired ideally should be the only moving object in the beam of the radar. If this is not the case, as in a police officer monitoring speed on a stretch of busy road, more articulation is needed in testifying to a particular vehicle's speed.

Some of them have them mounted on the roof of the cars and they can get you when they are moving as well. Other than that all he has to do is take a guess as to what speed you were doing and fine you for the guessed speed

Yeah i was flying and it was stupid looking back at it now, but whats done is done.... just wanted to know how he got me from the other side of the freeway while moving himself... he cut across the grass to chase me

They can get you whilst moving in either direction (coming towards you or from behind). How much there would be to contest with oncoming is something I am not familiar with though.

i recently got done for speeding well in march went to court over it

my power FC my AVCR all had a recall speed of 99kph and i had video footage of all this from my car with date stamp and i still did not get off my speeding fine and the police couldt prove it was my car or that there thing was 100% as i even had my speedo correction date was more recent then there last gun test all i can say is

VIC JUSTICE system sucks

as i lost no matter how much you fight it and for this time i was innoicent but due to bad driving recored they didnt belive me the good old guilty due to past things GRRR

Dude, you were speeding - cop it. I got done by an oncoming undercover car on the opposite side of the road in the middle of the country while I was in an overtaking lane. He was doing 98, I was doing 128 (bare in mind this was a 110kmp/h zone.) It shows you your speed and their speed.

Another thing to remember is that the first thing most cops will ask you is "do you know how fast you were going" sounds innocent enough but when you say yeah xxxk's you just admitted to it and they dont need a reading.

and also cops will bullshit when my lawyer got the report on what happen what the cop put on that report to what was said was totaly wrong lucky i had vid footage to proove everything bar upto when i went to his car and he showed me the reading and i asked can you prove this is my car and he said no

I suppose if it were obvious you were speeding excessively, they can get you for "reckless driving" as opposed to "speeding" - they don't even need a radar.

I would put my money on the fact that he didn't get you, you either admitted to it (because you thought he got you) or he lied, with the car mounted radar you need to be at a certain angle to the on coming car, i wouldn't mind betting that because of the medium strip you were too far away for him to get you.

Do some research and see what you can find, the more people just cop this sort of shit the more cops will do it.

If he had to chase you, i don't think he'd even need a radar reeding, his speedo would have done a decent amount of the talking.

True but if he's using speedo only he would need to follow for a particular distance.

However, most of there cars have a built in radar or laser to check the speed of the car in front of them, so its not looking good.

just need to be in the beam of the radar which is approx 60 deg which means at about 200m it will cover 4 lanes of traffic easily. If you were going real fast its very easy to spot and detect you. Basically he would have dropeed a few km off the reading to allow for error. and say his speed jugement indicated you were going fast and the radar was just backup. ask for the papwerwork and see for yourself.

And if there is 1 car in any of those 4 lanes then the reading is not valid because the accuracy can not be gaurenteed.

ill add this not that it matters in your case a cop tried to get my mate as he came up rather quick (he was speeding) behind an unmarked cop car...as the cop was using his rear view and side mirrors to judge speed his case didnt hold up in court and my mate got off..

i'm alos cgoing to court for a speeding offense soon.. I admittantly was peeding but am certain OI was doing about 25-30km/h less than what the officers got me for...the officers followed me tracking my cars but as I was a fair distance in between us (and it just so happens I have a witness to prove this..and as there were times that officers could not see me as I was on a hilly road...where I was going down over the crest as he approached it my solictior believes I will get off or at least a reduced speed..which in the case as I can admit to speeding Ill happily cop on the chin...
