There was a non turbo model late in the cycle, but you'd have to import it yourself - not many would be wanting to bring in a non-turbo when there's an abundance of turbo's about.

But still, look for a post '96 model, type S like this one

180sx Type S

just lie and say they dont exist :D will save for re-sale later and trouble of getting one here.. she wont know the difference and will just pick another hotted up car anyway and trade up to a 180 when she got full licence

ive been mistaken many times when looking at the front of a silvia thinking its a 180

You sure your car is a non turbo..? Don't be mistaken but it is a GTS, right... ;):(

Yeah yeah just making fun, jokes! ;)

In relation to the thread topic, scotty180sx, it would be a lot easier if your g/f just bought a Nissan Silvia Q's.

They are quite the similar car.

If she gets a 1988 - 1989 model, the Q's will have a 1.8 L DOHC-I4 (CA18DE)

From the mid 1990's - 1991 models, they were equiped with a 2.0 L DOHC-I4 (SR20DE)

Yeah, but they don't look the same. I'm guessing that's her prime motivation for getting a 180SX.

well i give you a few scenarios here

you COULD buy a 180, source a non turbo low km engine, take the old engine out, undo all the intercooler works, undo the bolts to the front pipe, get a crane to lift the engine out, cut your hand in the process, get another crane, put the NA motor into the engine bay, bolt the engine up, realise you've lost a few bolts in the process, swear your head off, then when your gf comes outside to see whats wrong say it's got nothing to do with the car (that way she won't get mad at you for botching up her 180sx) then try to start the car and realise you forgot to replace the ECU then go on NS.com trying to find someone willing to let a NA ECU for 180sx go for cheap, wait for mail while your gf asks you what is taking so long while you make excuses like "there's a part coming" then plug it in and start the car and VOILA NA 180SX HOORAY

OR

you could pay a performance mechanic $1500 or so dollars in labour to replace the engine because they can charge that much because they have a "backlog n they dont wanna take bookings unless you got the dosh for it" and be told you can "feel free to take it to a regular mechanic but they'll take you to the cleaners mate im doing you a favour" and give him the car which he has for two weeks meanwhile you contemplate whether or not it would have been easier to do it yourself then your gf would think your tuff as cos you know all about carsnshit

OR

you could get over it and buy something achievable in the big scheme of things. rather than a 15-20 year old piece of shit.

WOW

THAT WAS THE BEST POST I EVER DID

HOPE YOU LIKED IT.

I see, so she likes the 180SX hatch back style.

Well try your luck in finding a N/A 180SX, OR get a turbo 180SX but keep it stock and scrub out the 'turbo intercooler' sticker at the back of the car and anywhere else and keep it on the low down. LOL!

Other than that I not sure what else there is.

All the best.

The car's too girly for a girl?

I was going to suggest a Toyota Sera as well. It doesn't get that much girlier than that, but then girls look good in girly cars.

A Z32 is OK, but I think its a bit too big and the visibility out the back isn't exactly great either.

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps

    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
