Well as some of you may know Paul dirtgarage has held the world record for a low mount GTR. Now some have suggested rather unkindly that he invented this class of GTR racing himself, but it has captivated the hearts and minds of drag queens the world over.

Now there is a new contender for this auspicious title. The R32 GTR of Mark Berry and Russell Newman has this very night run 9.78 @ 140mph at willowbank raceway.

Not bad for a circuit car and a bunch of guys who don't really do drag racing. The car of course was just running regular circuit tyres. I think possibly wanli's on the back and mohawk or linglings on the front. In all seriousness the car hasn't been touched since Superlap and of course runs suspension set-up for circuit racing. It's a 2.6litre RB26 running low mount garret turbos and a H pattern gearbox. I'm sure they could go even quicker with some drag radials, drag suitable suspension and some more practice at the strip.

Anyway, well done Mark and Russ not bad for a car you guys built in the shed. It really is quite an achievment. :( and the RH9 sticker is in the mail

Well done lads...id say it will last a while too cause im out of the game now.

would have loved a crack at it with the new dogbox.

big single is on it now...ahh well good to see it was an Aussie and not a bloody kiwi.

drag suitable suspension is a toss anyway...both giant and i have proven the circuit stuff works just as well in a 4WD car.

Congrats on the top effort. Was actually 143mph. awsome stuff for a car that is bulit to go around corners :P

i was going to post that the MPH seemed a little low for the ET...but didn't wish to be flamed for appearing to be negative.

Well done Mark and Russ!!!

We all know that your car is capable of doing the 9. It's just a pain that most drag strip are Andra sanctioned and Andra has no leeway for street registered car with bolt in roll cage or cam spec roll cage.

Did Willowbank allow you to have the 2nd run? If they did then that would have been awesome :P If they didn't then I am really sorrrrry to say but Pauly still has the record because you need 2 runs to be able to register the time in the drag circle :P May be Paul can explain that better?

Well done on the new RH9 sticker Mark and Russ. Sorry I could not come out today because I got a new sticker last sunday.....a "defective vehicle" sticker for using legal RE55 tyres on the road....something every oz should be proud of hey ;)

Would be nice to see the video though

hey guys

yep can confirm Mark did run 9.78@143 mph tonight! so extremely happy with that! thanks for the congrats

hey Danh, cheers mate but i dont need another run to know what time it did, and could careless whether it needs to be backed up or not for drag circles or in any other circle ,we havent been to the drags in it for a run in well over a year and it probably wont be going back, i have the slip :P

yeah first run was 11.1@80 mph ;) (110 mph at half track) mark backed out as he wanted to make sure he got off the line well, so he then got a warning from the officials to say make sure the one you dont back out of is good because it will be on the trailer, so next run he did a rather large tyre warming skid & he got off the line really well and drove through for the time.

probably could go a little quicker if setup right but not much , like turn back the 5 degrees negative front camber and a couple at the rear.

what i am really happy with is the car has not even had a spanner laid on it since superlap and is setup how it ran down there , it will be running at qr this Saturday and mt cotton hillclimb Sunday (which we will be trying to break the record for a sedan at the hillclimb), Just makes me love GTR'S even more as they really can be a great all rounder.

cheers russ (will post the slip when i get it scanned)

I know what you mean Russ ;)

That is an awesome achievement. It should place you at 6th fastest GTR on radial tyre in this country!

Unfortunately you will need to back it up with another run to officially go into the record book ....that's only if you and Mark care about it :P

It's a fast run and awesome achievement noneless. I wish I can be there to see the run. You guys built an awesome r32

BTW i certainly don't want to sound cocky or anything as Pauls effort's in drag racing are outstanding and a credit to him and so is his car.

i am just really happy we cracked into the 9's :P with good speed!!

and yeah Roy it was a real buzz.

basic specs are

GCG garret's equivelant to 2530's

2.6 ltr with tomie crank,

gt block,

cleaned up standard rb26 exhaust manifolds,

6 throttle hypertune plenum

ppg dog box

full exhaust (wasnt even running the side pipe)

    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all! • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.
    • Hope the cans went down well at least
    • 255 can't go wrong with the price.
    • When I was replacing my pump due to being stranded in the wrong state, I went with the Deatschwerks 320lph kit. It is a direct plug in to the stock wires, harness, everything. It comes with a plug... but you can plug the OEM plug directly into this thing. https://justjap.com/products/deatschwerks-dw300-fuel-pump-nissan-s13-silvia-r32-r33-r34-skyline-c34-stagea?currency=AUD Downside: Won't actually flow that much on boost if you want to push it on E85, but it's comparable to the 040/255 etc. Little more actually.
