been thinking lately about getting some racing seatbelts put into the car. since the bnrs come with the sockets to feed the belts through it be a great idea and looks great!

was wondering if anyone knew the legalities of them and if its hard to install them into the seats?

i do know with aftermarket seats and rails the belts bolt onto the rail and back seat bolts. wats the situation with standard bnr34 seats and rails?

thanks in advance

Two inch harness can be legal, providing the registration is changed to a 2 seater, and rear seatbelts are removed, however it must be engineered aswell.

3-inch harness can't due to the buckle design

Dont do it. You have to get the car engineered as a two seater, which means removing back seats, remving rear seat belts then going to Vic Roads and gettign your papers changed. This means from that day onwards you cannot legally carry passengers in the back seat or ever put the back seat back in.

If you want to get the papers changed back to saying its a 4 seater then you need to once again get the car engineered. This means not only the seat and belts come under scrutiny , but the whole car and any other mods you have.

They are also a pain in the ass to use on the street, they limit movement and you cant even change the radio station or air con settings when the harness is on Best bet is to keep your std seat belts and just use them. Using harnesses on the street is a bit silly, and if you must then use it in conjunctin with std seat belt as the places you have available to secure the harness means its more likely to injure you in an accident then help you.

SO, just be careful and do your homework thoroughly

You can do it but there is only one type of harness thats legal it has the same type of buckle as a standerd car (push button) I would advise you to go to vicroads.com to check, and you can leave your back seats in so long as your harness does not interfere with the rear passenger (check this it's from memory) if you got though the rules and regs you'll find out we can get away with more than you think such as a roll cage doesnt need engineering for vicroads to pass it, just follow the guide lines they state and it all nice and legal but cams will need engineering just a couple of thoughts good luck

Well yes and no.

VicRoads requires and engineers depending on the situations

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyre...265/0/VSI28.pdf

Reasons are - Modification to car structure, Seats/Seat Belts etc

Now, being a coupe, you wont get a full cage in there with the rear seats, therefore engineers is coming

true the seat belts are a grey area they say to use original points thats a bit hard as the seat belt clicky thing is part of the seat (R33 anyway) I spoke to them about that as im keen to put a cage in my car and what i was told it would br a quick check and thats about it i'm making my rail connect to the original seat fixing. With the rear seat your right if you put a full cage in it will need to be classed as a two seater as the bar work hinders the passenger from getting out quickly hopfully i'll be starting it soon i'll post up any problems i come aross in the fab section

    • Hi    have purchased pair of eibach wheel spacer as I couldn’t fit set of wheels I bought for my car due to it catching caliper.   I know I need to cut the bolts on my discs so they sit flush with the nut supplied but the nut doesn’t sit all the way into the groove meaning wheel would not directly fit onto the spacer rather the nuts. Any thoughts?   See pic   https://ibb.co/VJK5w5G
    • Nah. There's not shit tonnes of pressure in there. Just drill with a 1.5mm drill or something equally tiny. When the drill goes all the way through thee gas will start to come out, but with such tiny path through the flutes of the drill bit, it won't be at all dangerous. You can be as paranoid as you like from then on. I'd just pull the drill out while keeping my face out of the line of fire. But then, I spend half my time looking into pressurised furnaces. So my risk acceptance is somewhat higher than most!
    • Been needing a new clutch for a while, but holding off because of life tingz and adulting. But... Being of Asian descent, I can't pass on a good sale, especially everyone else is selling it for $2k+ (JJR has it for $1799). Really on the fence on this one, because the unsprung version of this is $1281 via Shitbox (Sparesbox) and the sprung version is quite a bit more (no idea why Shitbox doesn't offer them). Ending up just sending it and getting the twin sprung organic. Mainly because I wanted the car to be nice to drive and didn't want to make it more of a shitbox than it already is.
    • It was the pressure I was worried about. @GTSBoy does drilling them pose any problems?
