hey guys, i hope someone can help me with a little problem ive got.

Late last week is was driving up to an intersection and all of a sudden engine malfunction light came on and started to run on 5 cylinders.

I then got an engine diagnosis done and showed that it was an ignition problem and a break down in the 2nd cylinder.

First check that i did was removed plugs and coil packs and inspected both, spark plugs were in good condition and coils worked good. The way i checked was to crank the motor over whilst placing the plug and coil to the rocker cover in which produced a blue spark, this showed all was fine.

I then checked the resistance of all the coils and all where within spec.

I then changed the spark plug in 2nd cylinder with a new one just to make sure and still had the same outcome of running on 5 cylinders.

I then removed one by one the injector plugs to see a difference in quality of running, by doing this every time i pulled an injecter plug off it would worsen except for the dreaded 2nd cylinder where it just stayed the same.

Note: When cold it runs fine on all 6 cylinders for about 30 seconds and then the malfunction lights comes on and starts breaking down.

This morning i started the car and for some unknown reason i decided to hold the revs at 2grand, it ran good for a further minute until i released my foot and let it idle, it then dropped 2nd cylinder again. It continuosly runs on 5 cylinders, never better never worse, it feels like a datsun sunny ha ha.

Ive got it booked in at nissan on tuesday but if anyone has anymore ideas on what i could do, it might save me alot of money that i dont have.

Regards

Eli

If you didn't get any reaction when you disconnected the injector, I'd have to say you have a dud injector, pretty obvious.

Try swapping injectors and see if the problem moves with the injector, that would tell you for sure.

ok so decided to try the injector idea, ive included photo's of where im up to and ive undone the 2 bolts at either end of the fuel rail, im just not sure where to go from here, also taken the clips off the injectors, does the fuel rail just pull away from the motor with the injectors attached???

Cheers

Eli

You might have a break in the wiring to Injector#2. Try jiggling the plug and loom for #2 (after you put it all back together!)

hey guys thanks for the tips but, i worked out what it was.

By looking for the problem in the injector because of symptoms, i overlooked swapping the coil pack into another cylinder as it was sparking outside of the cylinder so i assumed it worked.

After doing the injector test in another cylinder which didnt do anything i decided to also change the coil pack to another cylinder, this i found was the problem to begin with as it then changed the miss to that cylinder.

So as of tomorrow i will be ordering a new coil as i dont trust a used one as im gonna do some fairly big trips next week and week after.

Ive lost count of how many times ive pulled the intake off in 2 days, im just glad ive finally found the problem.
