'Sif get full comp as a P-plater lol. Just Car want $2,600 to insure me with my car on full comp, and it's a stock NA (albeit not for long) hahahaha.

I'm so trying that. Your a geniuos :)

Haha, clearly :D

I'm 18, but I still live at home. Therefore my parents can kick the car out of the garage (they're threatened that) and I HATE parking it outside, no matter where it is!

Get a car cover.

$780. sometimes its good to be a bit older (but not very often)

Man thats cheap, my basic 3rd party is already costing $320 & if I want fire + theft I got quoted $550.

On the subject of turbos, today my parents were talking about want kind of cars they want to get in the future, & based on their selection criteria I recommended these for them...

Dad: He wants a "regular" family sedan the size of a Commo. = XR6 turbo

Mum: Must have a BMW of some sort, preferably a sedan & size of a Camry (its a Chinese + doctor thing...) = BMW 335i

Myself: Skyline of some sort = R34 GTT

Whole Turbo for the family :)

'mum, i need a car to get to uni and back...'

'show me which car you want'

'that one'

'okay, don't forget you have to pay me back'

'okay' :whistling:

that's my story... and yes i'm paying her back, nothing's free in this world lol

All you punks that had cars bought for you.. tsk tsk.. shame on you all :domokun:

Me: Oh hai mum i pick up my new car today!

Mum: Thats nice dear what is it

Me: Its a skyline

Mum: oh those old square box things how much is it?

Me: 27k

Mum: YOUR PAYING 27k for an old box-car and your only 20!!!!

Me: ok gotta go bai

few months after i got the car

whilst in the car

dad: whats that clock thing? (the boost gauge)

me: boost gauge

dad: whats that for

me: the turbo

dad: what ? this car is turbo?

LOL

Ha took me abit to let my old man get me turbo so when what i did is went to go purachuse one urself when he saw the truck rock up with my 34 he could do anything but now he loves the car more than me lol

Pretty much same story aye...

One weekend my parents came up with this story to convince me that the boot in my R34 was larger than my sister's boot in her E46 320i BMW... They drove from Perth to the farm (360km) and proceeded to tell me why they brought the R34 and not the beemer.. I wasn't so convinced, I said to dad it would be a carton if my boot was smaller than my sisters, I found the specifications on the net and won myself a carton!

*woot*

3rd Party all the way :)

And yeah when I got my first turbo 180, I just told my parents I was going out, coming home tomorrow with my new car (hadnt mentioned it previously). Don't know how long it took them to work out it was turbo, but mum wouldn't have a clue what one is.

$2500 without that shit  f**king insurance. Gonna get Dad to try and insure it under his name through HBF. Hopefully its cheaper.

Wtf, that's still cheaper than insuring an Aus-spec NA Z31 lol.

Also bare in mind that you aren't covered if you're driving it at the time of a crash, only your Dad is. Unless you add yourself as another driver, and the premium goes back up to what it would be for you to insure it anyway.

Edit: Err, you might want to tell them you're no longer on L's too lol.

I'm not sure about that. I'm down as a driver on both my dad's cars one old and one new(er). It was just an extra $70 a year for each of them to have me on it.

I will definately be doing this when I buy my first car.

Yeh, they insure my dad, but I'm also insured. And it isnt that much more either. Everyone does it, my mate was paying $250 a year for full comprehensive on his VR Lexcen that way!! In his mum's name, who got 50% off because she worked for the RAC.

I put it down that I got my license on the 30 of Jan, 2008 (Which I did) and its MORE then what I'm currently paying!! WTF??

Hrmm ok then, when I did the online quote the price was the same if I was the owner or an extra driver.. Must have been just the site then.

Does the car need to be in their name too then? Or just the insurance? Is the excess any worse?

I'd blame the stereotype for that.

Edit: Btw, Just Car covers L-platers for free as long as the person sitting with you is the same person who the vehicle is insured to. That said, you wont be covered with someone else if you do it that way.

    • Just a follow-up on this topic. From what I can tell so far the rusty residue on the engine block might be unrelated to a coolant leak or maybe just older than anticipated. After driving it from the winter garage to my friend's garage I could not see any new traces of coolant leaking there, but I will test this properly once I was able to fully warm up the car and drive it for a bit. I think I can agree that the whole porous engine block stuff is kind of nonsense, but there is just a silly amount of true, false and half-true information on anything Skyline-related on the internet.
    • hrmmm , not mine , easter plans to pull engine not happening
    • I removed the IACV, cleaned it and reinstalled.  I found a video on youtube that helped with the whole process, the guy then said the idle needed to be set, so the process was to get the vehicle up to operating temperature, unplug the TPS, set the idle screw in the IACV so the RPMs were around 600, then plug the TPS back in.  After I reinstalled the IACV, the car started (because, it was a cold start), once it warmed up, the car died, I adjusted the idle screw to see if that helped anything, it did not, I had to wait about 3-5 minutes, then the car would start back up. Only to shortly cut out, and only crank.  I loosened the TPS to see if adjusting that would do anything, and when I would rotate the sensor clockwise, there was a humming noise, but it would go away when I got the sensor in the horizontal position.  It only made the hum noise with the key on.  What do you guys think? 20250414_172604.mp4
