Vovan
i know it is a silly question, but i don't understand what it is and where is it located? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23069-what-is-carbon-canister/ Share on other sites
Steve
It is part of pollution control. It is located at the front of the engine bay, just next to the radiator on the left hand side of the engine bay. Zensoku
Yeah, the idea being, that the vapour that is produced in your fuel tank as it empties, is drawn into the engine to be burnt at certain engine conditions (vacuum created at idle and cruising speeds?) after it has reacted with the carbon pellets and air drawn into the carbon canister. This whole useless and power reducing system probably stuffs up fuel/air ratios slightly just to stop this vapour getting into the atmosphere?!? Having this removed or blocked intentionally will give you a big fine and defect notice! My CC looks to be connected OK - any ideas? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23069-what-is-carbon-canister/#findComment-495393 Share on other sites

I am not sure about modern cars, but back in the 80s we used to just block the lines off, but leave them connected so it looked like the pollution gear was still in there. dabigbolf
i haven't put mine on as yet... this could be the cause of the car cutting out.... but definatley gives the whole EPA type smelll... i traced the vapours coming from a little box off the side of the fuel tank. theres a sponge in there also.... might conect it and see if it stops car from cutting out... Vovan
what do you mean cutting out? if, f.i. when suddenly the turbo stops boosting (boost is -7: vacuum) - this means you need to change oil.
