Hi all, I'm Chris and I live in New Zealand.

I own a R34 GTT that is pretty much standard except for a 3 and a half inch exhaust from the dump pipe back-no cat and splitfire coils.

I've owned the car for a few months now, and it never felt 100% and always made some ticking sounds near the middle of the engine, so I had a compression and leakdown test done.

The first compression test done showed 170 on all cylinders except number 4 which showed 130.

The engine had a miss so I replaced the coils and had it tested again a couple months later by a different mechanic which showed:

1:140 2:145 3:135 4:135 5:145 6:145.

He then did a leakdown test which showed

1:26% 2:31% 3:37.5% 4:51% 5:35% 6:44%

There was no sound coming out of the exhaust or the intake but there was out of the oil hole in the top of the engine.

The mechanic said that its probably rings. The car never blows smoke and doesn't use oil.

I just wanted to see what you guys thought it was before I went and bought a heap of new parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The compression looks a little low but the Leakage seems to be massive.

My gf's 33 had no more then 1-3% leakage across all cylinders.

I have been told if it begins to go above 10-12% then it is getting high.

Did the mechanic try putting some oil into the cylinder to check if it was rings?
