The video of auction

But see how long it in the green of bidding. There was still heaps of people buying at 150 - 180k aud it eventually had to stop

Just a quick question why is the front carbon fiber diffuser white.? If it immaculate con it still should be carbon.....

The blue rectangle above the 3 flashing lights means the reserve has not been met, the red rectangle means game on! Bidder on the red button didnt even stop once the auction ended. Im told his budget for that car was "insane!"

And yes I agree, a car with 5000kms shouldnt be having a painted diffuser and an aftermarket exhaust with mines vents cut into the bar. Doesnt add up for me.

Have a look at the Mspec Nur which has 6000-odd kms that sold for an eye watering price, that car is squeaky clean :) And have a look at the other end of the scale - ¥7.045m for a VS2 Nur in Jade that has done 338,000kms. Kinda sets the tone really.

IMHO, the Aussie market needs more international buyers to warrant the spiked up value these local BNR34 owners are placing them at. If you want to buy a BNR34, buy local and buy now!

It also had an R35 Nissan badge on the boot. Couldn't work this car out, a few strange little mods for sure.

Someone will see it for 50 60k and snatch it due to the fact it's so much lower than the rest of the market.

That's the unfortunate fact of a high price market

Bingo.

idolized an R34 GTR since I was a child. Am early 20's now but having just built myself a house, will be struggling to afford a GTR at those prices. $40-$50k would be more realistic, but even require financing perhaps, which isn't really viable.

But if you don't get in these days before they're legal in America, the prices are only going to jump further!

This is about 34's lol.

Who cares about speedhunters.

would you like me to draw you a picture?

potential investors look to the other models in the lineage to help gauge where prices may head in the future. The price surge in 34GTR's in the last few years would certainly have been kick-started due to the increasing demand of older skylines. Suddenly GTR's arent just in peoples garages, adding aftermarket bits here and there or just trying to get them running; people (and workshops) are taking their time to do full restorations. Collectors look decades into the future, so whats an extra $20-40k to them now for a good build number or genuine rarer colour?

The quality of the skylines leaving Japan is only going to get better on average, the price is going to get higher, the number of barn finds or neglected cars is going to decrease.

Coupled with this, is the demi-god status people are putting onto the 34GTR. Speedhunters doing its fair share of contributions. Which leads me to my next point: look at the cars in that Speedhunters article from a Classic Japan show in California. I don't doubt American's are buying the cars in Japan, probably putting them into storage and will wait till they can be brought over.

What are peoples thoughts on the range of prices? Are we going to see a large disparity in price reflecting the quality of each individual car, or do we think all prices will simply balloon, just because they have R34 GTR in the name? Obviously prices already have blown out, but my question is whether the US market will care about the quality of each car and paying a price that reflects it, or just paying whatever price to own one regardless. I've got no idea what taxation they get hit with when they import either, and whether that impacts anything.

Personally my budget would one day soon be around the $60k mark. With the relative prices at the moment, if I'm importing that's not getting me much. If i'm buying local, even less so.

Might as well keep buying those lotto tickets when I knock off work today.

Don't forget the saying about buying a GTR "If you can't afford 2, you can't afford to buy and maintain 1"

As for prices look at the examples of below, $20k for a written off one and 2.5 million yen for a 281,000km old, rust holes you can fit your fist through one.

That video just makes me sad!

I'm hoping that any rises from here on, are small.

There's nothing worse than seeing an overheated market, only to witness a bubble bursting. That destroys confidence.

Do you really think it'll burst though Terry? With the US being able to import them soon, and some already doing so, I think current owners will only see their cars stock rise.

As Hadouken pointed out, when $60k isn't getting you much and the US market is yet to open, my quiet prediction is that I'm expecting these things to skyrocket further (sadly for me!).

Might have to 'settle' for a 33/32 GTR.

With the Aussie $$ so low against the Yen, it may be better buying within Oz at the moment.

Importers are hurting but then, they are the ones who can tell you which models are the 'sleepers'. Talk to them.

by the time the us can import them (10 yrs ish) your not gonna get them at $100k.

their minimum $70k now for something reasonable under 100km and $100 for something nice, give it 10 years and then letting the us market loose.

(this is just looking at carsales right now, nothing under $70k as i type)

we have seen r32s go from $15k-$12  rise to $25-$35k

add on inflation.....your gonna be well above $100k in my opinion

the R33 will be the interesting one

    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4
    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
    • To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
