Hey fellow Nissan lovers I have a 180sx 92 model and the only things that have been done to the car is a front mount, an exhaust and a turbo timer.

I wanna get the car handling well and get a bit more power from a slightly bigger turbo im going to b getting some rims soon to try and help with a bit of the handling issue. Now I know I should get a boost gauge (but what one?) I know I need a computer (but again what one?) I know I need to upgrade my shocks and springs (but what to?) should I look at doing a 4 to 5 stud conversion? What size turbo should I choose? (So I can still have it spool up down lower so I can have a bit of fun drifting when I want)

Any ideas of what I should do first?

Approximate cost of each would b fantastic if u have any idea and so I have an idea of what im up for with each part.

ok so im not someone that has spare thousands just laying around so I will b doing this slowly but I do believe in u get what u pay for so I don’t wanna b buying crap that I gotta replace in a few months time I would rather spend a bit on the parts now and not have to buy them twice.

What else do u suggest I look at doing?

Blow off valve? What brand and model?

Fuel rails/pump?

Air intake?

Better turbo manifold?

Anything internally?

Thanks heaps for taking the time to read and leave a reply this truly is the best library of knowledgeable Nissan owners in Australia

alot of people use the GT2871R turbo or the S15 T28BB turbo. they respond well and produce decent power.

boost control can either be a T-peice or electronic, depending on your funds. any boost gauge will do as long as it works.

coilover suspension with damper and camber adjustments will be good, and some swaybars.

you can either remap your standard ecu or go with a powerfc which are quite common. once again it all depends on your funds. you may also need to upgrade your air flow meter to a Z32 item depending on your decision.

bosch 019 or 040 fuel pumps are great and decently priced.

injectors will have to be upgraded. nismo/sard 555cc are a good upgrade.

in regards to order of install, i would go fuel pump, boost cont, turbo, ecu + injectors + afm (if needed) then tune.

that's a basic list for some decent power, but the list can go on forever depending what you want from your car.

rough estimated prices can be found on here in the for sale section, or check out nissansilvia.com for more detailed information.

cheers

i was thinkin of gettin some tein suspension

a haltech e8 ecu or if anyone can think of another option im very open to ideas

like u said some nismo/hks injectors will have to b put in so u think the 555cc will b a good choice?

how hard is it to do the fuel pump would u take it to someone to do or is it an easy install?

about the power fc is that a new ecu?

boost gauge i was think greddy or something along those lines?

ah the t28 ball baring turbo sounds very nice!!

what is a (air flow meter to a Z32 item)?

the car will b a daily drive as well as my fun factory so i need everything to b relaiable but fun

does anyone have any ideas on brakes as well?

I sugget a HKS Boost gauge as I have one and it functions great.

Can I suggest an Air Pod, if not upgrade your Panel Filter... HKS or K&N

APexi Power FC's are popular on SAU for the computer management side of things

I have Cusco Suspension in my R32, bloody hard but handling is nice on a smooth road. Teins are quite good too.

I try and stick to the standard BOV unitll it cannot handle the boost pressure anymore.

All depends on how much power you want to achieve will determin how far you will have to push the modifcations.

I think you probley get a better answer on NissanSilvia.com, don't ya think LOL!

Pod filter with cold air intake. The stock one is quite restrictive.

ECU-wise its hard to go past a PowerFC. Everyone's got one so there's plenty of tuning knowledge, and they don't cost that much.

Suspension-wise, Tein is nice. Flex is a good sports suspension that's still reasonably streetable. Look at getting swaybars as well, an all the other adjustment pieces like toe rods, traction rods, etc after that.

An S15 T28BB will flow 200rwkW+, and is OEM quality (for reliability) as well as being responsive. If you do replace the turbo, look at getting an aftermarket manifold, and get a brand name. I know a guy with a S15s that replaced the manifold with a cheap copy, which got even laggier, and then got a Tomei item which the copy was meant to replicate and the thing picked up all its response back, and more.

If you want to drift, get an oil cooler at the very least. Upgrade the radiator if you can. Gauge wise, along with the boost gauge I'd get oil and water temp gauges.

Doing a 5 stud conversion is only really necessary if you're looking for wheels. If you do a brake upgrade I'd do the stud conversion though.

I wouldn't bother with the manifold.

Being a daily and it will be a little more prone to gettin pulled over, just go for basic mods.

as everyone has said:

PowerFc - 1500 tuned & installed or Remap - 700

S15 turbo - 500

Pod - 90

S15 injectors - 300

Manual boost controller - 20 bucks these days

GTR pump - 80

Full exhaust - depends what you have now

Tein suspension - and check all your bushes - 1500

Go for a brake upgrade for sure. - 1000ish

The 180sx brakes aren't that good though if you go for a R33/300zx/R32/S14 brake upgrade you will notice the car performs a lot better. This is fairly simple to do and isn't too costly.

What you would spend on a decent manifold you could almost do a brake upgrade

Have a read of this:

    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4
    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
    • To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
