Ok so my girl was driving her stagea along the other night and whilst driving along she heard a click and everything cut out (engine, brakes, power steering, stereo, head lights etc) now it wont start and we have no accessorie lights, the parkers work but no head lights interior light works and so do the hazards, i have checked every fuse and they are all fine and i am hopeless with electrics so i am stumped on this one.

Any one that can help it would be much appreciated

Have an auto electrician look at the imobiliser, sounds like it cut in and won't turn off.

hey dude cheers for the reply nina called the immobiliser ppl and apparently they have a safety mechanism so they cant cut in??? although the light for it is not flashing any more

there is a main relay and/or fuse in pretty much every car. have a look for that. might be affecting things.

i had a look at all of them and they looked fine , it is wierd that it cut everything out though??

Do you have dash lights?

Find the ECU and give it a whiff. If it smells like its fried the board, you might be up for another ECU.

Try plugging in another ECU anyway to see if it kicks back to life.

:(

A mate of mine had a similar problem on his Nissan, except the car wouldn't start at all. He called in an auto sparky and the cause was dodgy connectors on the positive battery terminals.

Off topic, but I noticed you live in Tamborine Mountains. I'm tatking the Stagea for it's first camping trip up there this weekend. What temperature does it get down to over night? Am I going to freeze by nuts off?

Am I going to freeze by nuts off?

if you manage to freeze em off can i have them to hang around my mirror, seems every one els has gone the fluffy dice and i dont like trends so i think a set of fluffy testicals will be awesome.

I have been caught this way myself. Even if the terminals appear tight it is a good idea to undo them, clean the battery posts and inside the clamps with emery tape or sandpaper and retighten. It may not be the answer but it won't take long.

this may sound dumb but have you tried to jups start it before it happend . my mate juped his car off mine and must of jumped it backwards . brought my car back and then i went to drive and had the same prob . it killed my altinator and drained all f#%k out of the battery . it just a thought as if your battery doesnt have enough power your immobiliser wont dissarm.

Haha, thanks for the replies guys

I spotted a green RS4 up Mt Tamborine. Anyone of you guys?

That is me. I live here. Stag went to coast on tilt tray today to get Mrs 66 indescretion with concrete water tank fixed.

Will be very interesting to find out what is wrong with Peterman Stag.

  • 1 month later...

My S2 has just started doing some strange things too. When idling if I give the high beams a flash everything stops for a second, motor stops, lights go out. no ignition lights. Sometimes when I apply the brakes while driving everything gives a flicker. Today I turn the key to start up and nothing happens at all. Try again a few seconds later and everything works normally. Does this sound like a bad connection on main fuse perhaps.

cheers Craig

    • Out of curiosity, what's the reason for converting? I think @R3N3 might have the Frenchy's kit in the R33? I somehow think of you as the ambassador for realistic and clean street-driven setups nowadays
    • careful when running the car after a boil over. Ive heard you can lose enough coolant that it won't show the right temps because of too much air in the system (or something like that). Make sure the levels are good before trying again.  Maybe a mobile mechanic can come have a look with their scan tool ?
    • OK, just for some extra clarity - there is more than one option at Frenchy's. 1. You can buy the whole kit - with or without the actual compressor. The whole kit includes mounts, hoses, condensor, etc. That's either ~$2200 or ~$2800. No surgery required with this option. 2. You can buy just the bracket (~$600), or the bracket with the compressor (~$1200). Either of this or the above option "without the compressor" is if you already have an Echo comp or you are able to source one locally. Whatever the case, in this option, you will need surgery done on your hoses to adapt to the new compressor. When I said "the Frenchy's kit", I meant the whole kit in option 1. It is obviously somewhat more $$ than a $1500 OEM compressor. But if I had to spend $1500 on an OEM compressor, I would certainly consider spending double that to renew and significantly update everything forward of the firewall. Another option is to rebuild your original compressor. My R34 comp is currently dead and I will be most likely doing that to it if the spare one in the shed is also leaky.
    • I’m thinking that’s the route I’ll  go, thanks for the input!
    • Hey all, my 2004 Nissan Skyline 350GT overheated the other day with coolant boiling and leaking out of the coolant reservoir when I was parking. So today, I started it up again just to see if it was a thermostat/head gasket issue. After about 20 mins of running, temps were normal again, no coolant was leaking out and the upper reservoir hose was warm but my engine suddenly cut off. I checked the oil dipstick and cap when it was running and there was no white foamy residue and the exhaust did not have white smoke. I tried starting up the car again but it would only crank, similar to when I had a camshaft sensor issue just that now there’s no check engine light on the dash. Any ideas? Unfortunately I don’t have an OBD2 that can read the Nissan's programme.
