If you read the newspaper you'd have noticed yet another hoon article (well 2 articles this time) and focused on the skid meets at industrial estates..

well on the front cover is a black r32.. this being the only car shown... once again pointing fingers..

BWCP closure and legals bein shut down are being blamed.. since when were their skid meets at bwcp??? and why are skylines always used in hoon articles???? someone a jornalist here who can write a piece on the people who are just enthusiasts who enjoy their cars??? take some of this rap off us?

concillor said no to legal skid meets cause it spills onto the street.. well isnt it already on the streets... very smart lady we got their.. very smart

Yeah it's fairly crap. Unfortunately they have the support of the majority, who watch way too much Today Tonight/ACA and honestly believe that hoons are an enormous problem and that anyone who doesn't drive a white Camry (probably at 20 under, in the right lane...) is a hoon, and that they should be taken off the roads without mercy, yada yada yada

If you try to explain that a person who gets their car confiscated for chirping over a white line is completely different to doing donuts in a preschool playground during little lunch, then you're tarred with the same brush and instantly lose all credibility...

The worst bit is that hooning sells! Until there's something else that gets as much of a public response, don't expect hoon stories to go away. You can always tell when there's a lull in the real news, out come the old faithfuls - hoons, how pensioners are poor, downtrodden and forgotten by society despite their years of loyal service, teenagers doing things that never would have happened back in the day, how to save money at the shops... picking up a pattern?

It's funny cause I hooned in the right lane chirping all the way to ALDI where I picked up a kilo of apples for $2.31 for my retired pensioner of a grandma who isn't being given a fair go even after 60 years of public service.

Where was the ACA coverage?

In Beijing asking Stephanie Rice if Eamon Sullivan is hung.

Media is media mate, skyline drivers historically tend to crash at high speed....thus more pics of skylines, more readers/viewers thus higher ratings, creating more revenue.....need i go on?

Skyline drivers tend to crash at high speed due to the fact that we generally have cars that produce enough power to get to that speed (glares at the comon whore owners and FoundOnRubishDumps try hards) But on the other side of the coin most of us that put the cash into the car to make her go and look sweet try not to have them taken away by "hooning". I think the concept of a hoon needs to be redefined, To me a hoon is someone who drives a busted assed VN commy tryin to cut doughnuts in the middle of an interection to impress there bogan mates. Now skyline owners on the other hand tend to do a more classy style of tractionless ballett we have the drift we all know we can do doughnuts but drifting is an artform and one which most lines take to like a crackwhore to a fist full of $20's. now that places have become available for us to take our cars there is less of this on the streets which genrally means that we meet check out each others rides and get ideas on how to make our cars just that little bit better. Perhaps we should invite one of the people from ACA or Today/tonight to come down to a meet and see what it is really like given that most people tend to respect the set rules of a meet and just wanna have fun. Perhaps then we can atleast get a new nickname like the tractionally challanged (sounds so much better than hoon to me.) anyway thats my 2 cents.

Skyline drivers tend to crash at high speed because they chose to break the law in the first place....I'm sure you realise both our beloved skylines and the trashy commodores you speak of are quite capable of doing 180 kmph+ off the factory floor.

It all comes down to the driver, and unfortunately we have had too many idiot skyline owners who have left a sour taste in the consumers mouths. Nothing we can do about it.

ahh but as you said to many idiot skyline owners are the hoons

i was at the meet in canberra about 4 weeks ago

and the street commodores showed up and started doing skids and throwing bottles and stuff around and we are the ones that got the blame so i think from that point of view its more the commodore and ford drivers that are the hoons the cars just dont stand out as much

This issue comes up all the time, I don't understand why your so offended being labeled a 'hoon'. The way I see it if your not hooning then you have nothing to be worried about.

An ACA/TT beat up are completely inconsequential to any real outcome, be it policy or attitudinal. If a VNR could actually change peoples attitude towards an issue PR professionals would be pumping them out faster then broadcast networks could play them.

at the end of the day if you break the law and can't be resigned to keeping racing behavior where it belongs, on the track. Then you should be labeled some degredating term, they don't make laws because its fun. Now I don't agree with all anti-hooning laws especially car crushing but if they didn't have a tough stance can you imagine how dangerous the roads could be.

just my opinion anyway

Goodluck ever trying to change the image.

I was looking at some autotrader junk mail thing today. On the back page were a couple imports. There was an r33 which had in a speech bubble, "say hello to the boys in blue"

The reason Skylines are used in all the stories is because commodores look like shit.

I can't see what you are getting at here; surely if a person is not a 'hoon', and the media, or anybdy for that matter, lables him/her a 'hoon', then they have a right to be offended!. also, radio and TV have great influence on public attitudes, and programmes like those often seen on ACA etc help perpetuate the idea that most people with an interest in hot cars are a menace to society.

so your idea of "harden he f**k up", is to roll over like like a pissing pup and take every kick in the guts the media want to dish out, without a comeback.. great plan!!. a previous poster said perhaps ACA should be invited to attend some meetings where legal car club activities are on display; I reckon that is a good idea; and just maybe it could show the other side of the story, and at least change the attitudes of some.

Forget the media hype and dont invite them anywhere, they will tell you that they will write all positives but then the story will be about kids driving 300kw race cars on the street.

The media get paid to you know, and a story about hoons will sell better than a story about nice tricked up cars that can brake, handle and accelerate better than when they where new from the factory.

Sad but true.

maybe a GB for those large pinkies are in order? lol

i will winge and cry all i want as is the fact that i can lol

and when you cop shit from the normal 'brainwashed' public.. and the boys in blue because the media can manipulate the situation.. fair enough that there are hoons in skylines but i think there are more drivers in heap o shit commys and fords that get their licence.. think they are expert drivers and crash and cause havoc..

the media was invited along in that article and they made some point on the fact we need some legal area in which this behaviour can occur.. i mean tons of ppl are turning up to these.. hoons and families alike.. if there was some place available where ppl can go instead of this 'cat and mouse' chase all night till a spot is arranged.. do they not think ppl would rather go there?

and yes i know its a fruitless point to expect some change but it does spark some discussion on the points..
