I just hope the Government doesnt ban Imports or even ban anything other than standard cars because some idiots think its cool doing 300 ks down the freeway or drifting on the way down to the shops, then has a brain fart and kills some poor bugger and his family on the way to a sunday picnic.

Yes its not only Imports that these fools drive but my Skyline looks faster than your average commadore or falcon when its parked, so to the average joe who will write to their Governmemt official about HOON CARS mine will be the one in the paper with a big front page spred saying BAN THESE DEATH MACHINES.

mmmm sounds like about 30 yrs ago when the FORD GTHO had that write up in th paper.

I can't see what you are getting at here; surely if a person is not a 'hoon', and the media, or anybdy for that matter, lables him/her a 'hoon', then they have a right to be offended!. also, radio and TV have great influence on public attitudes, and programmes like those often seen on ACA etc help perpetuate the idea that most people with an interest in hot cars are a menace to society.

Radio and TV actually have very little power to influence peoples attitudes, sure they can set the public agenda but changing attitudes requires massive amounts of effort.

and when you cop shit from the normal 'brainwashed' public.. and the boys in blue because the media can manipulate the situation.. fair enough that there are hoons in skylines but i think there are more drivers in heap o shit commys and fords that get their licence.. think they are expert drivers and crash and cause havoc..

I love the 'brainwashed masses' argument always leveled at the media. If everyone is brainwashed why aren't you, why is everyone else somehow dumber and more suceptable to media effects then you or every other high horse person who says that? Stop giving the media so much power ffs we are all intelligent beings capable of discerning what we see on shows like TT/ACA!

if Skylines are the pin up car for hoons, who cares... it might increase the amount of people in the market for them. After all in the media it doesn't matter what they say as long as the spell your name right.

Media does influence people, look at gun laws, now only the criminals have guns, didnt really work in the way that they wanted but when you force a issue the sheep will follow, also why does the government and industrie spend millions of dollars on advertising if it doesnt work.

The sad fact of the matter is that the world is full of sheep who want to be lead and told what to do, Fortunatly i and some other like minded people understand that you can have power if you respect it and use it only where it is safe to do so, unfoutunatly some people dont and they end up in the media where they give he sheep their daily fix of headlines of how these hoons must be stopped.

so your idea of "harden he f**k up", is to roll over like like a pissing pup and take every kick in the guts the media want to dish out, without a comeback.. great plan!!. a previous poster said perhaps ACA should be invited to attend some meetings where legal car club activities are on display; I reckon that is a good idea; and just maybe it could show the other side of the story, and at least change the attitudes of some.

LOL. Its because nothing is going to change and those storys don't do shit. Just get over them and stop making a big deal. There have in the past been news stories showing a positive light on car clubs and also motorbike gangs. Infact every christmas they are made to look like saints when they deliver toys to kids in hospitals. Whilst they ratio of good to bad stories is uneven they are still there but no one makes a thread about them. Sir your argument is epic fail :D now go back to your latte.

And thats why 'some' girls (and homos) reading these girly magazines feel they need to diet.. dress different cause these models depict how they should dress.. that's why ads on tv use different tools to make it look like their products are something they arent..

get your hand off it eh... alot of people (including myself) believe things they are told and take it as gospel.. take religion for example.. one of the biggest.. there are millions that believe in a higher existence and life after death because they were told to believe.. they were told this is how it is.. there are some people who believe so much they are prepared to die because they are told this is what they must do to be accepted into their higher plain...

all this is told by the average person.. so you tell me now about why it isnt the case... chinese whispers my friend.. chinese f**king whispers... doesnt mean they are dumb at all.. just means they are shown the one side of a story and it appears more than once and without any other info on the subject they feel this is the norm

The topic was just to point out another hoon related incident where they show a skyline where no other car is shown.. i don't care what people read or what they show but otehrs including govt are joining the line.. and will attach to anything related to imports to show they are 'doing something' and when it comes to biting the bullet they will be looking at everyone not just those who are doing the wrong thing..

and yes it will eventually pass but in the mean time who will face the wrath?

I'm not sure about your point on gun laws, I was young but I remember Martin Bryant being a major agent for gun law change? Your right about advertising however, there is large cognitive difference between buying the kids wheat-bix and, wait what is it that people actually do about hoons again?

I don't believe the world is full of sheep, besides we aren't talking about the whole world V skyline owners. We live in a time where the "sheep" model of audience has never been more wrong.

The young girls and body images debate often misses a major part of what makes advertising successful, the way people cognitivly construct their social environment and how they position themselves in that environment.

re the religion point, your talking about something that takes years of education at a young age. I don't even really see the point your making, that doesn't have anything to do with the media especially not the Australian media environment and we have one of the most concentrated media ownerships in the world.

what your saying is that if TT/ACA told you tonight that the sky is green, and always has been. Then you would wake up tomorrow and be shocked to find it blue?

well there is a place for 'hoons' 2 go already sorta, willowbank is comletely legal, if u wanna drag ur car.

but apart from that if ur on the roa follow the same rules as every1 else.

no1 can stop a hoon, face it, it is just the responsability of the person behind the wheel,

if he wants 2 b an idiot driving next 2 me, yes im tempted 2 push the pedals down an go faster,

but i don't cuz for starters i haven't got much of a license left,

2ndly i don't wanna go 2 jail if sumthin happened an sum1 got killed.

i just think that sum teenagers need 2 grow up an learn 2 b responsable.

i think every1 should agree with that.

years of education.. they are going to third world countries and spreading the good book and telling them they will have a better life when they die and they are lapping it up.. they are not dumb ppl either so dont try that excuse..

the sky isnt any colour dickhead its just a mere reflection from the earth... this i heard from others so im assuming its true.. :D

the points i made were example to show that people are instinctly sheep.. people follow trends.. emos.. if it is pushed in ur face enough then that is how those WHO DONT SEE IT FOR THEMSELVES are going to depict it... there are countless examples in every day to day life on things that everyone do.. someone start a thread with THINGS PPL BELIEVE AND FOLLOW AS SHEEP and see how many examples are given..

ur obviously going to bend the examples given.. so i'm basically not going into a pointless argument that will go around in circles.. time to pull out the 50 and mellow out

and i agree.. however the story was based on there is no legal places for the skids they do.. and the councillor didnt want a legal one organised saying it will spill onto the streets

the only thing i was pointing out was the fact that a skyline was the tool used again in relation to pointing out hoon behaviour

your right about the Bible, it is one of the few cases of direct media effects in action. Lots of people call for violent video/street racing games to be banned but its proven that more murders cite the bible as their inspiration rather then video games. So why is no one calling for the Bible to be banned? very off topic I know sorry.

If you believe everything your told like gospel then how come your rebutting me? I've spent the last three years studing media effects dude, people aren't sheep.

Hey DANTAY, Ive seen grown men change their point on religion in a heart beat (or at least a lot of heart beats in rapid succession ), all that is needed is a shock to the system, like when that quite guy that everyone takes the piss out of goes cyclic and wastes them, or that hard ass guy who was always in control of any situation breaks down crys uncontrolably like a baby when his dog dies. All that is need is a catalist and people can and do change the views that have had for their entire life.

My theory of the sheep comment is this, Most people are always asking to be lead in the right direction whether that be religiously or commercialy to a end that makes their life easy, have more meaning, or so they can fit in because most people are scared that if they dont fit in or go along with the majority they will be left out in the dark by themselves.

When people are scared the fight or flight senario takes hold which means hidding or banding together with like minded people to change the situation they are in to one that is more secure, which means removing the things that scare them.

IE, Hoon drivers in fast cars killing people, Remove the fast cars and they will feel safe again .

Crazy man with a rifle killing people, Remove the rifles and they will feel safe again.

Whether they fix these things in the long run is mute as they will fee safe now.

choice plays a part in what ppl believe.. and is based on what they see.. dude im telling you ppl are sheep.. there will always be those who chose not to accept what they hear or see and that it what defines humanity.. y2k was a big media one where like the sheep we are we all believed it.. however there was those select few who believed that such a mass catastrophy that will majorly change/disrupt the life they follow will not be possible..

are you going to sit there and tell me if the news tonight said that a meteor was going to hit earth within 1 month and it was unavoidable.. that there wouldnt be mass histeria... come on man.. in the technological age we live in today, information and what we are told plays a major part in everyones life.. we go to school and get told how things are and we learn it and teach to others..

beautiful man.. just beautiful :D

it shows my point.. people believe follow like sheep cause they instinctively don't want to be alone :) .. there are those who feel the need to go off and explore and this is ultimately where choice plays its part..

so now that we've had d&m convos in a car related forum :P LOL poker anyone?

i think one thing that this topic has shown is the fact that on both sides show that people will believe what they chose to believe and when shown things then they make up their mind.. not just in media.. however the media use this to however they chose to.. manipulation or not.. deny if you must but you can add this to your studys..

tell me dantay.. where does ur study come from.. other people? books written by others? the media perhaps? lol or what you have seen and made up your mind? the real cunundrum is how can you be sure that what your saying isnt a manipulation of what others have influenced you on lol now that one if you think about it can have a lifetime of thought trying to figure that out huh

greater men than urself have fought over things they've heard/seen and like sheep will fight to the death cause of what they've chosen to believe

now you've made me spend my day at 'work' discussing this... come on dantay, i've got a raging boner over the excitement of this heated discussion and your leaving me hanging?

People will also change their life long and even generations long belives if needed. IE, Taliban say no to growing drugs and kill any farmer that does, THEN, Taliban get arses kicked and need money quick because the Paki@#$%^ govt charges alot of money for guns and stuff, so now the Taliban kills the farmers that dont grow drugs because they take most of the money of the farmers, and if the farmers say no because that growing drugs is wrong and against their religion the Talian then cutoff there heads which then changes the minds of the other farmers.

lol.. iraq are carrying weapons of mass destruction reports the media.. attack screams the people.. oh they are not there.. liars scream the people

muslims are all suicide bombers who want the destruction of the first world countries..

black people are inferior screams the kkk... a clan they have now

cults... and some cult members are smarter than most people.. and you sit there to tell me that people are smarter than to be brainwashed by others..

    • Jdm DC2R is also nice for a FF car compared to the regular hatches of the time.
    • Now that the break-in period for both clutch and transmission is nearly over I'd like to give some tips before I forget about everything that happened, also for anyone searching up how to do this job in the future: You will need at least 6 ton jack stands at full extension. I would go as far as to say maybe consider 12 ton jack stands because the height of the transmission + the Harbor Freight hydraulic platform-style transmission jack was enough that it was an absolute PITA getting the transmission out from under the car and back in. The top edge of the bellhousing wants to contact the subframe and oil pan and if you're doing this on the floor forget about trying to lift this transmission off the ground and onto a transmission jack from under the car. Also do not try to use a scissor jack transmission lift. You have to rotate the damn thing in-place on the transmission jack which is hard enough with an adjustable platform and a transmission cradle that will mostly keep the transmission from rolling off the jack but on a scissor lift with a tiny non-adjustable platform? Forget it. Use penetrating oil on the driveshaft bolts. I highly recommend getting a thin 6 point combination (box end + open end) wrench for both the rear driveshaft and front driveshaft and a wrench extension. These bolts are on tight with very little space to work with and those two things together made a massive difference. Even a high torque impact wrench is just the wrong tool for the job here and didn't do what I needed it to do. If your starter bolts aren't seized in place for whatever reason you can in fact snake in a 3/8 inch ratchet + 6 point standard chrome socket up in there and "just" remove the bolts for the starter. Or at least I could. It is entirely by feel, you can barely fit it in, you can barely turn the stupid ratchet, but it is possible. Pull the front pipe/downpipe before you attempt to remove the transmission. In theory you don't have to, in practice just do it.  When pulling the transmission on the way out you don't have to undo all the bolts holding the rear driveshaft to the chassis like the center support bearing and the rear tunnel reinforcement bar but putting the transmission back in I highly recommend doing this because it will let you raise the transmission without constantly dealing with the driveshaft interfering in one way or another. I undid the bottom of the engine mount but I honestly don't know that it helped anything. If you do this make sure you put a towel on the back of the valve cover to keep the engine from smashing all the pipes on the firewall. Once the transmission has been pulled back far enough to clear the dowels you need to twist it in place clockwise if you're sitting behind the transmission. This will rotate the starter down towards the ground. The starter bump seems like it might clear if you twist the transmission the other way but it definitely won't. I have scraped the shit out of my transmission tunnel trying so learn from my mistake. You will need a center punch and an appropriate size drill bit and screw to pull the rear main seal. Then use vice grips and preferably a slide hammer attachment for those vice grips to yank the seal out. Do not let the drill or screw contact any part of the crank and clean the engine carefully after removing the seal to avoid getting metal fragments into the engine. I used a Slide Hammer and Bearing Puller Set, 5 Piece from Harbor Freight to pull the old pilot bearing. The "wet paper towel" trick sucked and just got dirty clutch water everywhere. Buy the tool or borrow it from a friend and save yourself the pain. It comes right out. Mine was very worn compared to the new one and it was starting to show cracks. Soak it in engine oil for a day in case yours has lost all of the oil to the plastic bag it comes in. You may be tempted to get the Nismo aftermarket pilot bearing but local mechanics have told me that they fail prematurely and if they do fail they do far more damage than a failed OEM pilot bushing. I mentioned this before but the Super Coppermix Twin clutch friction disks are in fact directional. The subtle coning of the fingers in both cases should be facing towards the center of the hub. So the coning on the rearmost disk closest to the pressure plate should go towards the engine, and the one closest to the flywheel should be flipped the other way. Otherwise when you torque down the pressure plate it will be warped and if you attempt to drive it like this it will make a very nasty grinding noise. Also, there is in fact an orientation to the washers for the pressure plate if you don't want to damage the anodizing. Rounded side of the washer faces the pressure plate. The flat side faces the bolt head. Pulling the transmission from the transfer case you need to be extremely careful with the shift cover plate. This part is discontinued. Try your best to avoid damaging the mating surfaces or breaking the pry points. I used a dead blow rubber hammer after removing the bolts to smack it sideways to slide it off the RTV the previous mechanic applied. I recommend using gasket dressing on the OEM paper gasket to try and keep the ATF from leaking out of that surface which seems to be a perpetual problem. Undoing the shifter rod end is an absolute PITA. Get a set of roll pin punches. Those are mandatory for this. Also I strongly, strongly recommend getting a palm nailer that will fit your roll pin punch. Also, put a clean (emphasis on clean) towel wrapped around the back end of the roll pin to keep it from shooting into the transfer case so you can spend a good hour or two with a magnet on a stick getting it out. Do not damage the shifter rod end either because those are discontinued as well. Do not use aftermarket flywheel bolts. Or if you do, make sure they are exactly the same dimensions as OEM before you go to install them. I have seen people mention that they got the wrong bolts and it meant having to do the job again. High torque impact wrench makes removal easy. I used some combination of a pry bar and flathead screwdriver to keep the flywheel from turning but consider just buying a proper flywheel lock instead. Just buy the OS Giken clutch alignment tool from RHDJapan. I hated the plastic alignment tool and you will never be confident this thing will work as intended. Don't forget to install the Nismo provided clutch fork boot. Otherwise it will make unearthly noises when you press the clutch pedal as it says on the little installation sheet in Japanese. Also, on both initial disassembly and assembly you must follow torque sequence for the pressure plate bolts. For some reason the Nismo directions tell you to put in the smaller 3 bolts last. I would not do this. Fully insert and thread those bolts to the end first, then tighten the other larger pressure plate bolts according to torque sequence. Then at the end you can also torque these 3 smaller bolts. Doing it the other way can cause these bolts to bind and the whole thing won't fit as it should. Hope this helps someone out there.
