'off With His Hood!'

Hey memberinos! lol. I have a quick question and a sticky situation in which i want peoples opinions for what i should do.

Quite a while ago i purchsed myself a 'Trial style' Bonnet made of FRP fibreglass, and now that i have parts of my bodykit and i wish to apply them to my 34, i only recently found out that FRP is technically just as illegal as opposed to having a carbon fibre hood on your car (Victorian laws). Im not sure if this is true or false, and i kind of feel stupid for not knowing, but is this correct guys?

If it isn't well, problem solved already! But if its not the news i want to hear then here is the situation i mentioned above.

Even if its technically illegal, (as most of us would), i still wish to use it in conjunction with my kit i purchased, the situation is, if i do apply it is there a way to make the hood heavier? So if cops lift it theres some sort of metal sheet underneath? Also is there a way to talk your way out of having one of them on, has anyone tried?

I wanted to originally paint it black like a 'jdm style' 'white car black hood' look, but i was thinking this might attract even more attention, so i guess painting it white will reduce that risk a bit. What are peoples opinion on this? I know alot of people on the street have FRP parts, but knowing my luck i will get defected asap. What would you guys do? would you slap it on or just leave it stock?

Some fiberglass bonnets are ADR approved.. So you could find out whether it is.. then use it.. or sell and buy one that is.. or just use it..

i vote the later cause unless u got defects up the wazoo or a cranky cop u should be fine

when you get pulled over the cops wont touch your car they will get you to open close things (from what i have experienced and been told about). so you can pretend its a heavy bonnet when opening it lol

I had the same thoughts and questions when i was deciding what to do a while ago. Don't know if it matters but i'm in vic, and got an r33.

i had a lot of advice, much of which was crap, heard carbon fibre was no good but i didn't want that look on my ride anyway, heard fibreglass is no good, someone told me it shatters bad in an accident and someone else said it wont bend like steel and will come through your windscreen and decapitate you... in the end i didn't know who's advise to take so i did my own thing...

I kept my steel bonnet, cut some designs in it and fibreglassed it up from underneath and moulded a little on top, then painted the whole thing stock and it looks awesome and is still heavy like steel and original, even when you knock on it sounds the same etc. nobody has ever said anything about it.

i went through this, BLITS are not ADR approved, THey are aproved by the QLD transport auth not ADR's. QLD is the only state were u can use a Blits bonnet legaly and very soon they will be illeagle in QLD too. sorry but thats the facts

i got a fibreglass bonnet, havent been pulled over yet, and i just got back from a road trip from mackay to gold coast and back and heaps of driving around gold coast a few cops saw my car and did nothing, on my way down i was over taking a car end up doing 140 and the cops where coming the other way and still didnt pull me over

You are correct they are QLD approved.

Hey, nah no idea when its happening but it is in the works. hopefully they make an exception for companys and ppl in QLD who have these kits. but i doubt it. i wanted 1 as an alternative cos i had a small accident and we worked out that it would be cheaper to get another bonnet then repair it.

i wonder if you are in QLD, and have already purchased and installed an adr approved fibreglass bonnet, because the authorities told you it's legal, (and there was a cupcake party with balloons and shit, and ppl hugging eachother with big smiles, like a massive modifier's love fest - this part may not have happened) would you now be required to remove it? or would there have to be an allowance for bonnets fitted prior to the new laws. and if the latter, how would they know anyway?

i had a non approved fiberglass bonnet on my vt for yonks and yonks and even got pulled over.. never a mention on it..

i was told about this whole fiberglass through the window shit.. well if you crash at high enough sppeds to send fiberglass into you through the window then face it.. something else would f**k you anyways..

if its adr approved you can get a mod plate for it which should mean you shouldnt have to take it off..

adr wouldnt be approving items they were thinking of making illegal anyways.. blits and dmd both have adr approved bonnets.. but yes it is also best to check with ur states transport rules

DMD are one of the agents for BLITS bonnets

the BLITS bonnets have been tested using the ADR specifications and they have been passed by Queensland transport for street legal use and don't need mod plates

some states don't require approval but this is going to change and we are working with them to comply with their regulations to get approval in every state

Hey Wendy, u got Pm. if what i have said is incorrect my appoligies and please clear up the confusion. At no point was it my intention to discredit you or your company as i have based my statement only on what the WA roads technical department advised me although this could be incorrect. unlike some people im more then willing to admit if i'm wrong.
