Hi guys,

Yet another HICAS problem, altho mine is alittle different from what ive read. Im driving a R33 S1 non turbo and one fine day the

HICAS light came on the dash and i lost my power stearing. After driving for awhile on the same day, i parked my car at a shopping

centre, walked around for 1 hour +++ and came back and the light was gone. Went home parked my car there for 30 + minutes ..

start my car and the light is there again. My mate asked me to unplug the battery and reset the ECU and i did that but still no luck,

and that same night when i came home i lost my sub woofer. Could this be a wiring problem? Maybe a blown fuse?

Thanks heaps,

Don

well ive been driving all morning today up till now, the hicas light is off. I'll have check at the power stearing liquid, but i doubt it needs topping up because from the last time i

looked at it which was 2 days ago it was full, but i'll have a look at it again later. Could the subs be a sign of a dying battery ?? Its just weird. Ryan i think ur right, something is

living in my car, my subs just died down, something must be chewing on my wiring. SIGH :D maybe i should sell it .. 50,000 ONO !!! comes with heaps of extra living things in the

car. hahaha

Too many unknowns, especially if you are having stereo wiring problems at the same time.

General HICAS question.. have you got an aftermarket steering wheel fitted? does the speedo stop working at the same time that the steering gets heavy?

Who installed your sub? where did you/they get power from? has any part of the factory loom been butchered?

my stearing wheel is still stock and my speedo never stuffed up before since i got the car, altho the horn doesnt work properly, ive to

press it at a certain spot real hard before the horn works. As for the sub, i got it installed at west side audio in cannington almost 6

months ago, the power from my audio system comes from the battery, i dont have another battery powering my audio system. Ive

had wiring problems with my car before just after i bought it but after i installed my audio system i got them to sort it all out and it

seemed okay up till now. So far today ive had no problems with the HICAS, only the subs are softer than they are suppose to be. Im

gonna call up west side audio on monday and book in again, theres a lifetime warranty on my audio system if there's any problem so

probably have them look at it. The only problem im having before this was that 2 of my brake lights doesnt light up when i switch on

my head lights, only the outter 2 lights up, the inner 2 only lights up when i hit my brakes. My mate says im driving a Hyundai :)

^^would have been a good few months ago now, I was behind a red 33 with the inside lights not lighting up...and I was wondering why that was... guess that was you. lol. :)

Anyway, When the HICAS light goes away, do you get your power steering back or is it still gone?

hicas lock bar ftw..

Yeah i think i'll invest in that once i get some money. I really dont see the point in the silly HICAS, i think that HICAS thing just adds

coolness. hahaha practically useless and irritating if something like this happens .. :D

The tail lights arent broken, just modified for complainance. Ryan (NISZILLA)'s tail lights do the same thing. Only he wont believe me when I tell him!!

As for the horn, the bracket inside has broken, so you only make contact in a certian place. I had the same problem, except the plastic was rattling around inside it everytime i turned a corner. I upgraded to a Momo wheel and it looks better, feels better, and the horn is eaier to use.

Subs: Get them checked out. Cant see how thats related, they shouldnt be connected to the HICAS system!!

As for the HICAS system, maybe its a fault with the computer? Or, when you install a non-HICAS boss kit, you lose your power steering and I think the light comes up. I' pull your steering wheel apart and have a look at the HICAS sensors to make sure they are making contact. They could have come off, making the computer go into safe mode?

Finally, I agree with Karl. HICAS Lock Bar FTW!!

i was actaully thinking of upgrading my steering wheel but just dont have the money at the moment. alwasy spend every penny i get LOL. im not sure why the HICAS lights keeps coming on and off .. no problems yesterday with it .. but today it came on once. Im pretty sure its something to do with the wiring of somesort. Just need to have a closer look at it. I'll get my mechanic Breandan to have a look at it !!! :P how much does the HICAS lock bar costs ?

My R34 does it... but my R33 didn't :)

All R34's do it, from what I've seen. Not R33's though

    • I just got to work and skimmed through 61508 and 61511. I was surprised the CSA adopted both, but neither are enforced. To recap what I read, it states that in a perfect world, they should be segregated but they acknowledge that this is not industry standard and clearly mention that they allow mixing of safety and non-safety. 61511 also mentions software segregation like AB does in their safety PLC's.   Now if only I could go back to control, let alone safety over comms. In my current line of work, we're only allowed monitoring over comms. Everything critical must still be hard wired.
    • I've unfortunately never been as they're on the complete other side of the continent and another country that isn't currently letting us in as easily as they use to. I even heard their stop signs over there actually say "Stop" instead of "Arret". If I decided to trek the 48h drive, I wouldn't know when or where to stop haha. Whenever I order parts from UP Garage, I order from Japan as it's cheaper. Same with GKTech... oddly enough, it's cheaper shipped from Australia then it is the US.  UP Garage Japan operates their US leg though, unlike Tomei. If Tomei JPN had the power to close down Tomei USA, I'm sure it would be done in a day. They're two completely separate entities. Tomei JPN messed up somewhere originally agreeing to its creation and got sacked big time.
    • I asked someone about this and he told me about the Audi 1.8T engine. But I think it would be difficult to swap
    • I don't know that machine specifically, but I'd personally go for something with a little more kick than 130amp. Around up to 180 would be good. At the 6mm range, you're really pushing the machine hard and don't have a long period you can run for with out needing to give it a rest. Lots of MIG machines come with a regulator and hose. A lot will come with a starter roll of wire too, but it isn't too expensive to buy. I'd recommend NOT buying a massive roll too, as you don't want it sitting around FOREVER in the machine between uses and potentially going to shit. For thin sheet metal, get a roll of 0.6mm if you're doing over 3mm and above, switch over to 0.8mm wire. Even by 2mm you'd probably really want to switch. As for gas battle, it's all swap and go style now. You'll pay a bottle deposit, and then X amount to swap for a full one. I think it's like $200 or $300 for a D Size bottle upfront as "deposit", and like $110 to $150 per swap. My D size CO2/argon bottle lasts a fair bit of welding on the MIG. And I run an E size bottle on the TIG. For DIY MIG, stick with a D size bottle. If you really start to get into a LOT of welding and doing it really regularly, then upgrade. If you're like most DIY car guys, one D bottle will last you 2 or 3 years easily. I think I've been on my current bottle about 5 years. It is starting to get low, but I've been smashing it a lot more the last 6 months.
    • SR20s came with cars like the Bluebird and Primera, but the RB20 never came. The ones in Turkey were either brought in specially or from abroad. That's why RBs aren't as common as SRs. And if a part breaks or I need to replace it when doing maintenance, it's harder to find parts for RBs.
