Problem With 4th :(

I have a problem changing into 4th, it seems to have trouble meshing, so after my experiences with subaru gearboxes, i'm assuming its a synchro.

Does anyone have any info on the type of syncro in the gearbox in my S1 97 RS260?

what box is this? R33GTR...V spec? how many synchros per gear? single synchro? double syncro?

Has anyone changed syncros in a GTR box before? How much did it cost you?

Any help greatly appreciated before i rip the box out for a rebuild.

yeah mate, probably syncrhos, and yes I understand they use 33 gtr gearbox.

From memory it is triple on 1-2 and double on 3-4-5 but you should probably try a search, I have seen it posted in the past

nissan do sell rebuild kits for these but they are pricey, over $800 from memory.

a cheaper and easy temporary fix is to run redline lightweight shockproof oil, it makes the synchros mesh better and masks the problem.

Thanks mate. I'll get my mechanic to change the oil and see what the difference is. Sounds like a full rebuild of the synchros and a new clutch is the way to go, but in due time...

What weight shockproof oil would you suggest for the GTR box?

Got any part numbers?
