Haha yeah i must admit it does come across that way...its like 'only the masters of DECA can compete', ie you gotta be an elite driver to participate. I know its not like that but thats the way to comes across. And the event requirements really back that up.

haha to everyone scared by 'masters'. its not a f1 round. it was deca. FAIL.

lol yeh agreed. Its more enjoyable to be having fun than taking it seriously IMO

In NSW we had to can our one aswel for the exact same reason Snowy and team Vic had to can theirs. (except our facility rental price is much higher meaning we would lose more)

Its a really average choice to have to make and there will always be unhappy people at the end of it as it results in something thats not of their own doing

Given all the variables its a tough choice to make, so i can sympathsize with the organizers, especially as this was the first of this type of event meaning others in the future will be scruitinized more heavily before being given the green light

Keep up the good work Snowy Chris James Bec and the rest of you lot - see you in November :P

everyone says they are only out there for fun. imo fun is trying to beat times or go sideways... and on the skidpan both. i dont know if it is just me but half assing it is boring and a waste of time.

i would love to see the stink kicked up if we didnt time these events and made them fundays... because there would be no competition then.. oh... the c word.

there is nothing better than beating GTRs. it is FUN.

hopefully with a bit of marketing magic and a rethink we can make something like masters a success.

spot on

pitty it got canned, would've gone if it werent for bad timing.

With this event being cancelled, this just means that I'm the DECA Champion for even longer! Lol!

It is a shame this event got canned but in my opinion, it also defeats the purpose of DECA.

Lisa & I go up for 70% socialising & 30% competing. With only 20 entrants, the social aspect is compromised.

I also think the economic climate may have contributed to making this look less attractive, with the increased costs involved?

Can someone please tell me the name of the accommodation place we booked as I need to cancel...

Keep up the good work, SAU.

Daz.

See i thought it was a great idea. Yeah sure i probably wouldn't have competed due to not having a car, but i would have loved to help.

Maybe the 'Masters' name was a little scary.... perhaps DECA EXTREME!! (the 'X' makes it sexy :P )

Full credit the Snowy, Cougar and the team for the effort put into trying to get this event off the ground. It's a hard thing to do, and your efforts are fully appreciated guys!! :P

Perhaps then we can look at it again next year and call it "DECA intermediate, with a side serve of fun"

But because the events on the back track are faster and IMO more dangerous to the inexperienced we still don't want people to make that event their fist trip to DECA. So we would still need some prerequisites.

If you take the time to look at the event schedule you will see that the events are super cool.

  • 2 weeks later...

I dont think there are enough people that want super cool events.

They just want the ones they know and love. Surely the club would be financially better off to run a few of the ordinary deca events a year rather than wasting money on an event for an elite few.

Its not fair to the majority paying members who miss out and pay the way for the elite.

Just my thoughts.

Wasnt the entry fee raised (from 75 to 200) to cover the costs based on the different size group of entrants? Meaning those 20 people pay for the day themselves...?

200x20=$4000, surely the costs for the day would be less than $4000, meaning the rest of the members from the vic club wouldnt be out of pocket at all

(just thinking out loud :) )

Actually you may be suprised to know that the club infact lost money on the one "ordinary" deca event held so far this year due to the lack of numbers that came. The WRX Club had to cancel theirs due to lack of numbers as well. The idea for this event was to do something different because it seemed interest in the normal events was dropping off to a point where running any type of event there in the future might not be possible. It wasn't supposed to be for the elite but more supposed to be something different to keep interest for the regulars and to spark interest in new people for the normal events. It was just safety and time reasons that we needed people that had experience.

Hopefully we'll get a good response for Novemeber or it may end up being the clubs last one.

Wow. What happened to the days when they sold out in like 8 mins. It's not like they are any less fun!

I'd just like to say it was a disappointment this did not go ahead, and the time/effort put in by people to get this planned was substancial and thanks for that effort even if things didn’t eventuate.

Also to members - Thanks for the feedback so far in this thread.

Committee is indeed watching it and taking what people are saying/expressing on board here in many ways to hopefully keep events going well, and also making sure members are after what they feel suits them best

If there are thoughts or otherwise that people don’t feel like posting, by all means drop me an email or PM etc.

Or just carry on posting here, I'll leave the thread around for a few more weeks yet before archiving

Thanks

If you after an opinion. Nobody take this to heart as you all do a great job organising the events and the time you put into them. It's a great day out.

The masters was a great idea and worth the extra money due to the extra track time. That is one thing that gets me these days. Track time and master would have solved it. My issue with normal deca's is if your not going to stay to socialize it is a big drive for such a small amount of time driving time.

The other is that many of the guys have driven the layouts many times before to setup the events. It is very hard to compete with only having 2 goes to get it right. I just see it as a little unfare to those who come up on the day to be equal. I take it as you organised and put in the effort so ok.

The cost vs track time is the main concern for me for any day. I will only end up doing a few days each year. I myself would rather do less track days but have a lot more track time even if I have to pay more to enter. Consistent track time from long sessions gives you a chance to learn how to drive the car which means faster times. Thats what everybody is aiming for - faster times. I don't enjoy the 3 lap sprints as I cannot get a feel for the car in that time because there is such a long break in between track days I do. Would rather 15 min sessions myself.

I don't want to take anything away from the organisers of these events because without you there would be nothing.

    • Thanks! Will get it looked at before winter 🥶 other than that she's a mint ride love it aye
    • FWIW a lot of the local owners that do a big build tend to have cars that are perpetually broken.
    • I just got this system but haven’t installed yet I got a Moroso sealed box (defect reasons) which will be set up same as their pic The quality is high grade, the correspondence I had with the owner (former head designer for Rockford Fosgate) was unbelievable, guiding me with what I needed. Even told me not to buy some things as it could be sorted in a different way at his loss. Just a bit of a bite with the exchange rate and don’t purchase gear in 1 hit that goes over $1,000 au, lol I forgot!
    • Thanks mate for that reply. Very helpful.    it’s a 2022 400R so would most likely lose those features as you say.     I did a quick compare of a rv37 nav and heading for sale in Japan to q50 model. I’ll pop pics below. Seems  Japan spec head into top, nav unit second below it   below pic Q50 aud delivered     differences seem to be Aus delivered has a different plug top left hand side of head unit- not sure what and where it goes.   and nav unit Japanese tv37 had an extra plug put    Again I’m really not sure what each of these differences mean!       the actual plugs on a v37 and q50 screens look identical on both screens… pics below for comparing. (One screen was is a us delivered one) but should be same gps signals etc as Australia.    If it were as simple as swapping a nav unit from q50 aud delivered im interested -just want to figure out what the missing plug is for before spending big $ on a second hand part for it to not work, and I guess with the head unit, if the band expander does the job (I got a 20mHz so should get the range I’m after) so should narrow my issue down to nav unit only.  I’d love to know what the extra cable on rv37 does and if I eliminate that part what it’ll do to the setup,    and also, if I can figure out what that head unit plug difference is, what does that cable do and where does it got can it be altered or re-plugged?! Excuse my ignorance what is ACP/AA, what does that stand for? (Apple car play? Android air play)? so If I swapped head units to save using a band expander, I’d likely lose those better features to have an oem Unit operational. Better to use a band expander and retain AirPlay options and newer version of head unit     provably best to band expand it, and focus on the nav unit. th isn’t  a big deal/ would be cool to have it working  from what I can tel we use a PAL Signal and Japan uses a NTSC signal  I don’t know if there’s a co better or if the screen only reads NTSC, or if it’s the tv module that needs replacing… no big deal don’t need it but more of a curiosity thing on that!   Thanks for the info re tyre sensors, helpful and great to know.  I was reading the online manual off Japan website and it seemed to make it sound more confusing than it is  I guess a rim replacement would require the sensors to be moved to a new rim to carry that option over?!     Thanks for the info regarding diagnostic mode. I appreciate your help mate. Trying to brainstorm here to find a solution to get as much gadgets as I can working! I plan to get my local Nissan tech to have a look too who used to be at an Infiniti dealer back in the day to see if any thing they have or idea can find a soliton. But hoping anyone here has gone down the same route to make life easier!!   i guess identifying the cable/plug differences and what they do would be a great way of finding out if the units are transferable    thanks again
    • No idea about the remote start part. If the V37 nav is anything like other Nissan JDM vehicles, you can't get the factory Japanese nav working in australia, a card from a different car almost certainly won't work, those cards are usually matched to the serial number of the DCU.  You could be possibly swap out the components from a AuDM Q50 to get it working, but if this is a new model (2021+) 400R, then you will lose the newer features like ACP/AA.  That said, if you have ACP/AA, just use google maps.. I assume a band expander would be required to get the local radio stations, but don't forget the Japanese FM band is narrower than ours, so you still might not be able to receive all Australian stations. I can't see any reason the tyre pressure sensors won't work here, there is the sensor unit inside the rim and the receiver nearby in the wheel well.  I have never had to change the batteries on my 2015 Q50, so I assume they last quite a while.  A straight battery change shouldn't need them to be re-registered as they are the same unit, that should only be required if you replace a sensor with a new one.   Word of warning, if you ever go into the 'secret' diagnostics mode on the main screen, DO NOT EVER do a 'reset' in this menu, it will erase all of your model specific data in the DCU and you will need a trip to a dealer to re-program it all, which would be particularly painful being an import.  This applies to the AuDM Q50 too.
