oh i forgot to mention, anyone looking at getting a bike, get in ASAP. the reason being that bikes are going to increase in price around xmas time by at least 15%. the reason is that there was already going to be a price rise because of the constantly increasing price of steel, but since the aussie dollar has dropped so much (and everything is bought from asia in US$) this is going to increase prices even more. any bikes that are already in store when the price goes up won't be affected, but any bikes that have been ordered in after the price rise will be more expensive.

may i ask why the hell you put a road bike derailleur and cassette on a dirt bike? if you say to save weight i am going to slap you, as there are much better things to spend money on to save weight (things that cost less and will save you more weight)

Yeah...

Function and weight would be the two main reasons. Cost me $260, dropped 200 grams, anywhere approaching $1/gram lost is good value generally.

I run the 11-21t cassette for the 1 tooth steps in gearing, combined with a super shortcage road derailleur this makes for extremely fast and sharp shifts, reliably, which is what I need.

I think I know how to spec a bike, just quietly...and the 'better things to spend money on to save weight' have basically all been done - its almost 4kg lighter than when it left the shop - with only cranks and hubs left to drop any significant amount (which should between them drop it into the high 11kg range).

Just bought this;

I've seen the pricing for the two brands the shop I work at...really hasn't changed...specs are better at all the pricepoints as usual...Parts pricing for '09 seems much the same...I think this is a myth.

well i have spoken to the head of a few companies and all of them tell me that the prices are going to go up. also all the brands bar 1 of brands i carry have gone up by 10 to 15%. and other brands i know of have also gone up compared to last year. if you don't believe me, go onto giant's website. they have both the 08 and 09 models on there with rrp prices. some models have gone up by over 10% without a a single change to the specs.

and also the prices that you have seen won't have any of the price changes for what might happen during the year because it is purely down to what happens with the price of steel and the aussie dollar. if the aussie dollar drops more then any shipments that haven't already been paid for are going to have higher prices than the current stuff. as it is all the first shipments were paid for when the aussie dollar was in the high 90 US cent range. now that the aussie dollar has dropped by nearly 20%, you can't expect the suppliers to absorb such a price difference.

the only brand i have seen (from what i sell) not to go up in price is WeThePeople. but on some of their bikes they have changed the specs (generally gone to lesser brand name parts that are still just as good) in order to get the price down.

oh and since you seem to know how to spec a bike well, i won't tell you how you could've spent less and saved more weight.

Nah, go on, tell me where I could have spent less, saved more weight, and had the same durability. I'm all ears (metaphorically speaking). I am fully aware it has super heavy hubs and cranks, but thats about it.

As for '09 pricing..We'll have to wait and see. I personally think they're just trying to drive second quarter sales through doom and gloom predictions.
