on saturday august 21st is the ausbike bike expo. it runs for 3 days but only the saturday is open to the public. it's at the melbourne showgrounds (exhibition pavilion), open between 10am and 5pm and is free to get in.

i'd like to go but i can't afford to. i just wish that they'd show it in brisbane for once.

Might have a look to see if they do anything like this in WA!

I went to a proper mountain biking track last weekend called "Goat Farm" was amazing, covered about 2 kilometres in an hour! no pavement, no grass just rocks everywhere! nearly stacked it a couple of times but just managed to stay on, was entertaining for me and my $500 bike and being a complete Newb going past other newbs with there $1500 giants etc! i got a flat though right near the end so they had the last laugh!

If you do go mad82 any chance you could take some pics?

just had a look, turns out that there is one in brisbane in october, yay. couldn't find anything on one in WA though.

the only reason why i want to go is to see all the stuff of the brands i don't sell. this time next month i go to the apollo trade show in brissy, and then sometime in august i will go to the redline trade show, but at the ausbike show there will be all/most of the brands there, as well as parts and accessories. as far as the bikes go though, i could always just do the rounds of other shops because most brands will have already released their 2011 range and have it in shops before the ausbike show.

up in darlington? a few mates do that. its effing crazy

25GTT if you wanna go to goat farm anytime again let me know - my mate and i started doing that but he's turned into the "7am sunday morning crack of dawn" discipline and i can't do that haha

so if you wanna go have a bit of a fang i'd be happy to! there's also the umm

i forget what

but it's a disused railway... out midland way, the tracks that branch off are VERY cool but they're a bit more gnarly than goatfarm i hear (never been to goatfarm)

Hey Eps, prob headin out again in about 3 - 4 weeks. Its my bday this weekend so prob few weekends after that.

Goat farm was hard as hell but was fun, My mate said there is another good track which is a bit longer but easier to ride on but much further away. I think he may have said out near mundairing.

I have sold the Skyline (SLY 33) sometime ago and have a 4wd (Ford Escape) which is perfecrt for carting a couple of bikes around so will definately keep ya in the loop mate, i think for now i would be a bit of a burden rather than a funcycling partner until i get a but more stable and stronger in the legs, have been training in the gyms for 12 - 13years and appears as though i have become a bit to umm "Top heay" is a nice way to put it. I am enjoying my bike riding too much and has started to become more of a focus than the gyms ( I manage 3 leisure centres so it might technically be a conflict of interest :-) )

will keep you in the loop when i head off on the next adventure, might even see if Dan the Man is up for it, has been a long time between drinks for Dan and I :-)

aww man i only have a road bike.

just checked mad, there s no Taos C's in there so you should be ok :-)

No Giants there either.

I guess the issue is you pay thousands of dollars more for carbon, yet it still appears quite brittle, sure its a great weight reduction but at a large cost. Dont get me wrong i would LOVE a carbon MTB but i would cry if that stuff happened to it!

....personally i'd be crying if my head tube blew out and my face ate the dirt as a direct result of my carbon frame breaking...

i would especially be crying if a tube went... into my body. like the whole thing LOL.

there was this one time. not at bandcamp.

i was chilling on my giant rincon and went down a curb, and the shock absorber popped open and shot the insides into my face, and the inner gas cylinder went into my eye brow.

shit was SO pain.

i was also upset. but then TBE helped me out by getting me a nice priced giant alias and gave me my money back for my rincon, because giant couldn't source the same part... or a part that fit even into my hulky frame... months later i found out giant had been taken to court for said dodgy shock absorber. which was why they couldn't "source" the part

shit was SO sneaky.

marc. will a vittoria rubino be much different to zaffiro? the TPI rating on zaffiro is lower but are cheap as chups. rubino = reliable and hell. (7 months riding and still unscathed except the other day i had to skid for like a whole year to avoid a mazda 3 pulling out of a dominoes)

a lot of those carbon breakages would've been from some pretty serious crashes, also one or 2 of those breakages look to caused by manufacturing faults (warranty issues). you'd find that in most cases an alloy frame or bars would've either bent or snapped and have to be replaced as well. that is the thing with carbon. it only flexes a small amount before it cracks/snaps, while alloy will just bent and stay bent, and when you try and straighten it it will then crack.

in a lot of cases carbon frames can be repaired, unlike alloy/steel frames.

and if you have an expensive bike then you can get insurance through a few places that do home and contents insurance that cover bikes for crashes, etc.

rowan, the lower the thread count, the more likely you are to get punctures. as for durability, the dearer tyre probably has a slightly more durable compund rubber to it as well.

had i know you were in the hunt for a new tyre i could've sold you a michelin pro race3 a few weeks back for $30. had it on ebay to get rid of it. wholesale cost on them is about $45

i'm not really in hunting mode, like...

i don't have my spear out and roam the plains looking for tyre tracks to see if i can follow the scent and kill the tyre to eat it man...

ell oh ell.

no but seriously i'm in no hurry i just had to do an epic skid to avoid getting hit the other day and the tyre's worn thru to the belt. which saddens me greatly.

OK so i can myself some bike shoes and cleats for my birthday F^&k these things are hard to clip in and out.

I finally loosened the cleat and my shoes fit in on my right foot.

So i put my bike stand down, place my right foot in.... sweet...... i then managed to put my left foot in...... sweet........ felt my wait shifting to the left....... how do i unclip???!!! then..... BANG! i landed sideways on the bloody ground and bent my stand!

I must have looked like the biggest d*ck! i think i need to practice getting my feet in and out more before i even get out of my garage! all the hassle these things are giving me they better be worth it!
