OK so i can myself some bike shoes and cleats for my birthday F^&k these things are hard to clip in and out.

I finally loosened the cleat and my shoes fit in on my right foot.

So i put my bike stand down, place my right foot in.... sweet...... i then managed to put my left foot in...... sweet........ felt my wait shifting to the left....... how do i unclip???!!! then..... BANG! i landed sideways on the bloody ground and bent my stand!

I must have looked like the biggest d*ck! i think i need to practice getting my feet in and out more before i even get out of my garage! all the hassle these things are giving me they better be worth it!

Good thing it's home time cause a little bit of wee came out.

so i got an email through today with a sneak peak at some of the apollo bikes i will see at the show this weekend. some nice looking gear. full carbon roadbike at 6.4kg, nice dual suspension and a nice 29er.

this got me thinking as to what factory they came from and what other brands come from that factory. the short answer, lots.

also i found out something that i suspected all along. you will never look at a "made in taiwan" sticker the same again. in the bike industry the whole "made in ......." thing doesn't quite have the same truthfulness to it. if you look at most bikes made in taiwan you will see them covered in parts that say "made in china". now foods will say things like "made in australia from local and imported products". bikes don't though. a bike can be entirely made in china, but be painted and assembled (known as "value adding") in another country and it will be classed as being made in the second country. i of the biggest companies to do this is cannondale. while they do make some of their frames in america, they don't make all of them and some of them will come from china or taiwan.

my cannondale still beats the crap out of a roadie though :) and it says "hand made in the USA" on the seat tube... i'm assuming the frame is - but if there's chinese componentry, who cares?

went for a ride yesterday and flogged the crap out of these 5 road riders riding cadence, stood NO chance mate NO chance! :down::)

yeah but half the roadies out there are unfit rich pricks who only ride them because it is the done thing.

as for your frame being hand made in USA, it probably is, but the whole point about the chinese componentry is that so many brangs get ragged on because they are made in china, etc despite the fact that they are running all the same running gear and the frame may in fact be the same as the one that is "made" in taiwan. and a lot of high end carbon frames are made in china. even some of the european brands get their stuff out of china and then finish it in europe because to get them built in europe would cost them much much more and the quality can be the same, or lower than the chinese made stuff.

lol. i was riding to work. slowed down for a rest and so was moving at 17kph. this lady on a bike went WHOOOSH past me. she had massive muscular legs. i thought about trying to catch her but then i didn't.

felt slightly emasculated

nice work om the ebay pick up, might need to have a look through there and see what nice giant MTB's i can grab on the cheap!

Mad, for MTB Apollo or Giant? i know Giant has a much better resale but say a $1500 apollo against a $1500 giant which one.... i still do this day drool over your TAOS C that you got sometime ago and cannot find a carbon GIANT anywhere near the cost of what they are worth.

I am thinking its the age old whats better a $50,000 skyline or a $50,000 porchse, the purist would say the porsche the performance rider would say the apollo......

As it gets closer to xmas it gets closer to me buying my next bike, my apollo summit has lasted me a good 3 months so far, and i am now riding to work and back once to twice a week (38 Kms there and back :-) )

P.S. dan your slow lazy 17kms on your on roader, is close to my average top speed, i try to sit at 22 for most of the way.... you on roaders smash me when on the foot paths but lake joondalup has a nice 2km run of limestone that i get the last laugh on :-)

apollo vs giant, depends on individual model. in the past i've done a few comparisons and the giant might be fractionally better in 1 model and then the next model the apollo might be better. it's really just a case of comparing specs on the 2 models.

as for resale, if you are buying second hand then i'd go the apollo. lower resale means you will get a better bike for less. sure it means that you will get less for it when you then resell it, but in the long run it will still work out to be better to buy the cheaper bike as the older bikes get the closer the resale gets.

and tangles, i was reading through the ebay add and found something that made me nearly fall off my chair. well actually 2 things. 1 was saying that the hasa frame was much better than the giant. 2 was saying that the alloy hasa forks were similar in quality to the carbon ones on the giant. carbon forks are much better than alloy forks, LOL. the 2010 giant is also only $1499 rrp, not $1800. $1800 was the 2009 model. also the cranks on the giant are a lot better. for the price it isn't a bad buy, but in the add they dribble a lot of shit, LOL. the whole carbon head thing puzzles me a bit. why did they bother to carve out a bit of the headtube to put a bit of carbon in? it will have saved bugger all weight and all it does is allow them to say it has a carbon head tube, when it doesn't. it has an alloy headtube with a carbon spacer. they also said that 7000 series alloy was better than 6000 series alloy, and that is only partially correct. if 6000 series alloy is heat treated (as most of it is) then it will be both stronger and lighter than 7000 series alloy that hasn't been treated. hell, big W bikes run 7000 series alloy but they use such a shit quality that the tubing is 4" thick and the bike weighs as much as a light truck. as i said, the bike is a decent buy, but i just get shit off with ebay advertising. most of those people missed their calling. they should be selling realestate or used cars.

not working and not being sure how I will go with no knees it was paramount to buy the best value / cheapest I could find. took the money of my ever-growing morgage ! :)

going to show the local shop the Hasa bike when it comes in, and see how it visually & physically compares to the merida 903-18.

was happy to pay for the $850 bike, $20 tool kit, $130 mo-86 shoes and $50 peddles and get the clothes free. with cateye mc100 computer, cateye lights, rjay helmet, pump(s) and bottle/holder all up spent $1400 exactly

hope to have the bicycle delivered by end of week.

then will start slowly but hope to clock 100kms per week average for the next year

we'll see, comes down to the knee-less legs & whether I can handle it or not

just make sure you set the bike up right. that will be the key to helping your knees. make sure the seat is high enough (want almost full leg extension when the pedal is at the lowest point), make sure the seat is positioned correctly so that when the crank arm is horizontal and your foot is on the front pedal the knob on the side of your knee lines up vertically with the pedal axle.

also if you are putting it together (assume you will be), make sure you get the pedals done up tight. use a 15mm spanner with a piece of pipe on the end. they need to be done up tight. my proper pedal spanner is 14" long and i lean on it when doing up pedals. if you just use a normal spanner you won't get them tight enough and there is a good chance they will undo themselves, and then damage the thread in the crank.

depending on how the bike comes in the box, you may be able to flip the headstem upside down to give you a fractionally higher handlebar height to give you a slightly more upright seating position. it only brings it about a cm or 2, but it can be enough to make it that little bit more comfortable.

Dan - head down to an Anaconda store if you can, they have half price sale on right now, i am sure i saw some very similar ones to these going for pretty cheap!

#perthfags - i cant, i have an mtb and cant keep up with you road boys.....

In summer though would be nice to do a coast ride with yas after work!

    • I would again like too thank Matt for his help in me sourcing the detachable hard top for the little red car, without Matt's assistance in inspecting it and locking it down, I can guarantee it would have sold before I could get up to see it,  and as that was the only available NC hardtop in Australia, I consider myself extremely lucky on multiple levels To say I'm more that happy would be an understatement And, it is 100% water tight, I drove through torrential rain coming back south, and by torrential, they type of rain that doing 40kph in a 110kph zone was a real thing, and even then, the standing water on the Hwy was deep enough to throw waves I'm also more than happy that the huge "BEASTS" that Matt calls dogs didn't eat me for lunch, I'm sure the sniffs and licks were more to "taste test" me, over being to friendly Now to work out what colour to get it painted, panel match, or gloss black........first world problems are real
    • Actually I might have figured out. Looks like there is a tab according to google images but it's hidden. Silly me.
    • No clips on this one like the other connector. Only that red tab that I can push slightly up.
    • For any loom connector that has an obvious release that resists pushing far enough to unclip, just spray some silicone lube into it. You might also benefit from using a bent screwdriver or small pick to push in the right place at the right angle.
    • Hey all, I went to try and fix my indicator not canceling, but I couldn't remove the clockspring cable under the column so I could twist that green thin. Anyone know how to remove this cable? I see this red tab but didn't have any luck. I was thinking of unscrewing it but wasn't sure if it would cause issues. I did notice for my indicator stalk, 2 out of 3 cables were plugged in but the last cable wouldn't fit in the stalk. I'm getting it's for fog lights. It was like this when I originally pulled it off.
