for those of you looking for indoor cycle trainers - check out

www.1-day.com.au

obviously from the title this is only avail for today so if you're chasing a bargain one, then that's... there...

unless marc is going to tell us that that's not a good one??

as far as pricing goes, i can't even buy them for that, so they are certainly well priced

as for quality, if they are for occasional use then go for it. if you plan on using it a fair bit then get a better one. the ones i recommend (and use myself) are the TACX brand ones. they do good quality ones. their entry level one is about $300 (that's what i use). their top model one can be hooked into a tv and interactive dvd's play so you can feel like you are riding somewhere, and it goes faster if you go faster. you can also race other people. but those ones are well into the thousands of dollars. the higher end TACX trainers (called the satori) without the interactive software are used by many of the pro teams (such as Omega Pharma-Lotto - formerly silence lotto, astana and rabobank).

sounds like something that will be on WII next week at kmart haha

and yes. those trainers are a steal at their price, get it if you want to dabble but like all things with cycling / cars...

...buy cheap... buy again...

the issue i've had in the past with cheap trainers i've sold (and it's the reason why i never bothered getting any more) was that even though they were a magnetic trainer they still made a bit of noise (generally you only get the tyre noise) and also they didn't suit every bike. i had some mtb's that wouldn't sit on the roller properly and they would have the tyre rubbing on the plastic housing. and due to the design you couldn't do anything to alter the location of the wheel.

Hey Dan, thanks for asking, the MRS loooved the bike. Its a GT aggressor so a real low - mid range bike but i only paid $100 for it, it needs a service which i will take it to get done on the weekend.

We went round lake joondalup which was 18kms, i have done it a few times now, and surely enough she was enjoying it so she did it aswell albeit at a much slower pace.

Were off to get some of those padded diaper shorts though this weekend whilst the bike is being serviced.

So looks like my little bike gang is getting bigger.... move over BMX bandits!

yesterday I rode up to a stop sign. So i stopped

this motorbike/scooter must have thought it would be a good idea to go through it. He skidded and ran into the back of my bike (his tire hit my back tire). I just moved forward slightly. I turned around and he was laying on the ground.

A car went past and beeped his horn laughing at the scooter guy.

feels funny man

quick one for you all and especially Mad082 is it typical for bike prices in May/June to be falling so much?? i have seen heaps of shops now all of a sudden reducing prices here in perth, especially giant brands.

A lot of the Giants at carine cycles here in perth have just finished a massive sale, was looking at Giant Alias's aftr Mr Eps recommendation and they used to go for 1200 now they are down to 800! the XTC 2 was $1700 now $1200.

Why these massvie drops? is it just consistent with end of financial year, or is it because the 2011 models are coming in?

Is this regular for this time of year?

i will answer this post in a few parts. giant is having a 30% off sale at the moment, so shops would be buying stock cheap and then passing on the savings. they might not be passing on all of the savings, but they will pass on most of them as they can easily upsell the customers to a better bike now and stil make goo dmoney on it. it also means that all their other stock is now over priced so they just have to cut their losses to try and clear it.

the answer to this is yes and yes. it is partly to do with end of financial year (however this is actually a pointless exercise as it doesn't reduce your tax bill by clearing stock unless you sell it below cost. if you are selling it so you don't have to count as much then that's a valid reason). i have gone off topic a bit there, LOL. back to what i was saying, yes it is partly due to end of financial year, but also to do with the new stock being just around the corner. most 2011 stock will start coming out at the end of july. some brands will have it out earlier, others later.

Is this regular for this time of year?

yes, it happens every year, however this year it is happening more than ever because it has been such a slow year for bikes and both suppliers and stores have a lot more stock than they would like, so they are doing them cheap to try and clear it out. for the first year in a while the bike industry took a big hit this year, and sales were well down on previous years, so suppliers do have a lot of excess stock on their hands that they need to clear to make way for the new stuff. that is how i got that carbon apollo so cheap. it was nearly 40% off.

yup, that's the one i have sitting here. $1250 is a pretty good price. if he bought it on special he's still making nearly full mark up though (about 10% less than full markup). i'm doing mine for a bit more, cause even at $1500 it's still $1100 less than the 2010 model. in fact $1500 is less than the wholesale of the 2010 model.

i don't think he will. and you aren't likely to find prices that low for quite a while. the surplus of current stock will be reflected in how much of the 2011 bikes they get, so there is a good chance that this time next year there won't be much stock left over.

25GTT the only way i can see you ever regretting a purchase of a taos C

is when you're riding home from work

pumping your legs

working hard

smashing up a hill

puffing

panting

and seeing some choade on a roadbike glide past you as if you don't exist.

it sucks

and it happens to all of us at some stage - which is why you will soon have THREE bikes.

i know a young guy who goes riding with the local roadies on a mtb and can beat most of them. he rides his mtb everywhere. does some 12 hour and 24 hour races. he's epically fit.
