Bit off topic, but how hard is it to paint a carbon fibre bonnet to match the car? Like can you get a perfect match with the paint or will it look different due to the carbon fibre bottom layer? Probably covered before but i cbf searching

If you're going to paint it, wouldn't you just get a fibreglass one and save yourself $200-300. Pay for the paint job by saving on the bonnet.

It can be quite hard, however if you are using an experienced body shop you should be fine.

how does the engine hold up when it rains?

wont the coilpacks/sparkies of the engine get wet?

or does this not affect it?

I've heard of a few isolated dramas, however remember that most people have a spark plug cover. It may cause a drama if you have a vented coil pack cover and you leave it in the rain.

I've been wanting to get one.. but i've been told that they're illegal unless ADR approved?

Where do i get one that is?

Nobody that I know sells ADR approved bonnets. Having said that, I have also never heard anybody first hand have dramas with the police. I have heard stories from peoples brothers half sisters long lost cousins husbands kid had a run in with the police, but I don't really trust them.

can anybody confirm whether these are available for series 2?

I can confirm that we don't sell them for series 2, as for others I'm not sure. FYI we have the blazer style for the series 2.

This is the only S2 bonnet I found which has the Z-Tune vents on it, but it's also got some retarded big vent above it. (Plus the company is in the UK anyway.)

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
