well my GTR is going to be here soon and the 1st thing i'm going to do is respray it. The colour atm is the stock blue (TH1 - Dark Blue Pearl i belive) but i think it's just plain and boring so i'm thinking of changing the colour just not sure of what colour to go??? i've found a blue colour that looks the same but has a massive purple flip in it and looks good, but i also like the Ford Orange off the XR'5 but not sure if it will look good on a bigger car? do you guys have any ideas on what colour to go and maybe some pics.

Also i'm going to paint the engine cover, also don't know what colour to go, i was thinking of that mazda red (velocity red) as it is really a 3 layer pearl and has alot of gold metalic in it any other ideas on this as well?

Cam Covers will look terrific in Velocity Red - Yeh go for it..... But...

Even though Ford Focus XR5 Orange is in vogue atm, it...

i) can clash with the red IMHO

ii) will possibly date in 3-4 years time

iii) may cause you to sell to a limited market when you want to sell and

iv) orange cars look terrible if there's any slight scratches or swirls

One pro though is that it doesn't show the dirt.

How about R33/R34 midnight purple. Anyone who owns one is really happy about it. I used to own an R33 GTR with that paint & people would come up to me on the street asking about the colour.

Congrats on your new car! Enjoy!

yer thats another thing that has sort of been putting me off, my VT SS was tiga mica and i got sick of that colour pretty quick and i don;t want that to happen again, i really don't mind the Midnight purple but it's a pretty dark colour and i'm not sure if i want to go down that route again as my Audi was black and was a pain in the ass to keep clean. I thought about that purple the the VE SS comes out in but i'm sure i'll be sick of that colour soon.

Gotta pick a colour U R happy with eh?

Orange comes into fashion periodically like with the Escorts of 1972 and again with Falcons of the early 80s. But they go out of fashion very quickly.

The Midnight Purple of the Skyline GTRs has a lot of pearl in it, and is significantly different to that in the Commodores which btw looks fairly flat.

My current GTR is pearl black and is/will always be a huge contrast to the purple R33 GTR I had before.

So, if purple appeals to you, I'd line up the Commodore colour side-by-side to the Skyline colour and you'll notice that the Commodore purple is lairy whereas the

Skyline purple is classy. IMHO, check with others - I'm no expert. Because it's all subjective.

Oh yeh, one other advantage is that if you stick to a colour with a Nissan Paint Code, it'll always be easy to match wherever you go.

And a purple R32 will be pretty rare along with the R33 & R34... An exclusivity factor.

T

PS Then again, exclusivity can also mean airbrushing it $$$ hehe

matching it is no problem as i paint cars for a living thats pretty much the only reason im paining it because it will cost a grand or two and thats just fo the paint. i'll try scan some colour profees from wok but i sont know how they will come out

When i resprayed my 32 earlier in the year i was tossing up between the new commodore purple, midnight purple and the comodore green.

I ended up getting a mate with a midnight purple 33 gtr to put his next to a commodore and they dont compare at all.

The commy purple sux ass in my opinion. I ended up painting my 32 the new commy atomic green which was lucky cause another bloke painted his car the commy purple the same time i painted mine green lol

Dont like the commy purple at all any more especially after seeing it on a skyline

well the Ford orange is out of the question was looking at it last night and it looks aweome on small cars but on a big car onlyt looks good as a 2 tone, and i dont wannt go down that route as i dont really like 2 tone jobs. The purple is sort of the same.

So i'm thinking about midnight purple but there seems to be alot of r32's respayed in this colour and the blue i found with the purple pearl, at work we respayed a VU ute in it but in all the photos it just looks blue. i've got a few weeks to decided but thanks so far for the input, keep it coming

    • You shouldn't need to massively fatten up the mixtures for cold conditions. For one thing - 0°C is not that cold. For another, the Haltech will be using the IAT sensor to tell it how dense the air air, and calculate the correct amount of fuelling. Then the cold start enrichment is added as a % on top of that, so it should scale with the main fuelling. You might also doubt the IAT sensor at this time. You're not using one from an RB26 are you? Using a nice Bosch sensor or similar? Happens. Some wideband units take great pleasure in killing their sensors. Put another wideband in the tailpipe and compare. Or just swap the sensor to a brand new one and see.
    • Oh, my misunderstand. When the car was running, it sounded ok, but if I gave it any gas it wanted to die but caught itself afterwards. It's very different from how it was a couple months ago when it was warmer outside. The logs show that the AFRs are better during, what I assume, is warmup enrichment. Because it's cold, and air is more dense, should I work on the enrichment bit?
    • yess of course im not using 2nd hand parts from my spare engine, but the place where i live is hard to find parts for the RB20DET ,but for the RB20E is everywhere including new ones and a lot cheaper ,because for the RB20DET you have to order it overseas to get one and it cost a lot of money 3x the price to be exact. so i ask this topic because if i can use the new ones but for RB20E is it compatible or not. if not im screwed haha, not totally screwed but i have to save a lot of money first before i can begin repairing my engine, thanks for the information before.
    • Unless my sensor just died, was only a couple months old, I strongly believe it didn't. How can I test it? I never mentioned it being 20:1+?
    • Well, you wouldn't use 2nd hand bearings out of another engine anyway....so just buying the proper bearings is obviously what you're going to do. The crankshaft would be common. The conrods might be common. There is essentially nothing else you would be able to use.
