Who is running a Garrett T51r??? Im looking at getting one for my 25/30 http://www.horsepowerinabox.com/HPIAB2/prod511.htm

Just want to know what peoples opinions are about this turbo. I have a nos kit to help bring it onto boost and the car doesnt get driven ofter just more of a toy for the drags and dyno days.

Not to sure on the specs of this turbo but do not be lead to believe that garret turbos are the same spec as HKS though the add does state that they are similar so is not claiming they are the same. But many people will try and tell you they are. I can tell you without a doubt that they are not and the HKS turbo will outperform the eqivelent garret every time. Not taking anything away from the garrets as they are a very good turbo but i would be chaseing priceing on genuine HKS as a comparrison.

I have no idea what they are going on about with the "Garrett T51R" thing, sick of inbetweeners making up random names and confusing people with them. The closest I know of to a T51R is a Garrett GT4202R, nice turbo.

If you are going that big i would get the SPL. Nothing beats the sound of that turbo, you will love it.

GT4202Rs sound exactly the same, dirty big turbo with anti-surge housings will do it every time :D

what about something like this then???

Garrett GT4594R Turbocharger $2536

Horsepower: 800hp-1100hp

Compressor Housing A/R -: 0.60a/r

Turbine Housing A/R -: 0.91a/r, 1.05a/r, 1.22a/r or 1.40a/r

Turbine Hsg. Attachments: Inlet: Standard 4-bolt T4 flange

Turbine Hsg. Attachments: Outlet: GT42/TA45 flange (6-bolt)

Oil Inlet - : Inverted Flare 7/16-24 thread

Oil Drain - : Standard 2-bolt T4 flange

Bearing Type: Dual Ball Bearing

Cooling: Water Cooled Centre

Wastegate: None (Use with External Wastegate

There are just way to many options for the same size turbo. I want something that will be on full boost around the 6k mark on a built 25/30 running nos

So for those who think the Garrett GT4505 is different to the HKS T51R SPL, can you tell me what exactly is the difference?

And why should this guy pay $5350 instead of $2400 for those differences?

You're kidding yourself if you think the SPL will outperform the Garrett. They are the same turbo

HKS turbo kits come with everything u need

garret u have to piece together yourself

the turbos alone the HKS spools marginally quicker (you wont notice it in real life)

Garret develops HKS turbos and sell the rights to them, then make a tamer versions themselves as far as i know

the extra 2.6k is for the bagding HKS T51R KAI or SPL

brilliant turbo kits, i have one right next to me :(

OK a GT4508R is quite different from a T51R SPL, HKS have only JUST released a turbo comparative to the GT4508R and that is the T62R which they showed the prototype of at the last TAS. A T51R SPL is so similar to a GT4202R that there is no point in my opinion in paying the extra for the T51R. A chap I know has run a T51R SPL and a GT4202R on very very similar engine setups and he got slightly more power out of the GT4202R and both seem very similar spool - the GT4202R setup was on a manual trans car vs auto for the T51R. In both cases I believe the turbos had been run to the point they weren't going to really make any more power (around 1000hp).

The car that had the T51R SPL on it is in the process of getting upgraded to a GT4508R, will be very interesting to see the results of that.

Part of that is true.

Their kit only comes with gaskets and a couple of fittings and some bolts. You can buy these as kits from Sonic.

So we're up to $50-$60 in gaskets/bolts etc.

The Garrett turbo is actually more responsive than the HKS one.

The HKS T51R SPL uses exactly the same cartridge and make a small change to the compressor cover. They also use Vband on the turbine housing instead of TV flange on the garrett.

Garrett makes the turbos for HKS, HKS do some development on housings. Sometimes they change a wheel dimension but essentially remain very much the same. The HKS T51 SPL was designed to make a true 1000hp whereas the Garrett turbo will probably only get you up to 980. That is why the Garrett version remains more responsive.

I wasn't talking about a 4202 or a 4508.

I said 4505.

It is the equivalent of the HKS T51R SPL. Garrett do not list it on their site but the cartridge number is: 709647-5005

I am holding it right now...mmm it is sexy.....and friggin heavy

Holy crap, sorry my bad- I had assumed going by how often people mess up and quote incorrectly (and its way more often than not) I thought you may have just miss spelt or been misinformed. Ok thats an awefully neat little turbo there which I wasn't aware of, yes - very very T51R SPLish. Nice! Learn of something new every day.

Yes the whole HKS kit uses V-bands

from the turbo to manifold

manifold to wastegate

and the dump pipe all utilise the V-band

oh the screamer too

still in the process of collecting parts for the rb26/30 build up

hopefully make 500awhp+ with decent response on the KAI

i think its a fair bit smaller then the SPL
