Yeah mentioned them earlier in the thread when "GT45xx" based turbos came up.. they are pretty new and will probably be a pretty limited run. There is a drag GTR in the UK which is having one installed and should be doing some runs with it in the near future, same car did an 8.2 with a T51R Kai so should be very interesting to see what it does with something this substantial.

The real different is that HKS T51R KAi and SPL turbos use Garretts old T51 series Turbine in 76 trim , the Garrett marketed GT4294R and GT4202R use Garretts GT42 UHP turbine in 84 trim which is a more modern design .

Don't forget that most of the HKS spec Garrett turbo line has been around for a while now and sometimes use older T series compressors and turbines . Aside from T51's you have T04Z's with T series compressor and turbine so they aren't always cutting edge technology by todays standards . This doesn't means they're old dungers because often their custom housings make the best use of older tech wheels .

As was mentioned one of the GT42R's is going to be cheaper and at least stay with a variation of the T4/T45 footprint , the point is if you trash it and need to replace it the zeros will be less and the parts easier to get .

IMO you're looking at big turbos for an RB2530 so I hope you have deep pockets for the engine driveline etc .

I don't think you will find the T62R BB as they still haven't been released yet. We have one on order for a customer in Aust. and should have here shortly for him. They are made in limited number and are pre order only (if anyone else wants one better PM me fast).

The Garrett equivalent weighs 10kg more than the T51 on our scales so that makes a big difference for starters. Attached is a pic of the exhaust housing available in 1.00 or 1.20 A/R which is a lot different to the Garrett.

Hey guys, your right i couldnt find any videos on youtube with cars running this new turbo but that didnt stop me from typing in 't51r' and watching some amazing supras, gtrs and even silvias running it. The sound is unmistakable.

You'll find if you search for GT42R/GT42RS/GT4202R cars will sound suspiciously similar :rofl:

I think the driveline should hold up ok. Ive got a C4 built byProtrans, 2 way diff and GTR drive shafts.

As stated above, the SPL is actually a GT4502 not a GT4202.

And HKS T04Z = Garrett T04Z

Nope , T51R's use a T51 turbine which is why for some reason they're called "T51R" .

GT42's (4294 and 4202) use GT42 turbines .

There is also a GT4094R which not surprisingly uses a GT40 turbine .

Sorry, I must have missed the point to your comment. Are you referring to what I said or what someone else has said?

No one above , Garrett virtually always call their turbos by the units turbine series number ie GT30 GT35 GT40 GT42 T4 etc etc .

The thing you will notice with large frame Garrett ball bearing "T" series turbos ie T04Z and T51R is the method of fixing the turbine housing to the side of the bearing housing (center section) . T series turbos use clamp plates and bolts where Garretts large frame bush or ball bearing GT series units have four "ears" on the back of the center section through which bolts screw into a series of threaded holes in the side of the turbine housing .

Its just a way of making a more modern cartridge fit the old T series turbine housings which make a matching set with the old T series turbines ie T04 P trim and T51 turbines .

Pay no attention to the American term "T67" compressor wheel , it's a flawed method of attempting to identify a compressor wheel by it's inducer diameter which in the case of the T04R compressor (used in T04Z turbo) is ~ 66.7mm . Precision over there sometimes calls their version of the T04Z PT67 meaning T04 P trim turbine + "T67" compressor .

I've no doubt HKSs housings are lighter and more compact than Garretts , the volute and nozzle sections of their housings are very different and more like the TiAL stainless steel ones .

A HKS spec T51R is not exactly a compact turbocharger , I suggest people search around for pics of GTRs with them fitted .

Shame they are way more laggy and expensive than the Garrett GT series, at least they are pretty and strong :blink:

I think lag is comparable to the Garrett series (don't have actual proof so won't make any claims), but expensive? A GTK 650 turbo will cost you AUD $1800.00 delivered if you go through the right avenues.

And yes I concur they are pretty (not sure about the strong bit, no proof either)

Ive only heard bad reports about turbonetics turbos, can any confirm on reliability if any one in aus is using them?

I am in NZ, a mate of mine was running a Turbonetics T66 on his GTS4 for quite some time and it did hold on fine until he blew his motor and the oil got contaminated and stuffed the turbo. It was quite impressively laggy given it was on a 3litre, though granted it was a plain bearing/non GTK version. I'm surprised to hear they are potentially competitively price in Oz as here they are really expensive, probably part of the reason they are never used.

Its interesting that in their country of origin hardly anyone seems to use them either if you look through specs of all their time attack and top drag cars.
