hi guys,

i was cleaning up some wiring under the dash and while upside down i noticed that there was fluid on the top of the clutch.

so i pushed the peddle a couple of times and clutch fuild was coming out of the peddle inlet (where it goes through the firewall)

so im i up for a new master cylinder or just some seals???

extra info

car has had a HARD 110 000km

the clutch peddle is very very squeeky on both in and out is it related?

yep, its the clutch master cylinder. the cost of a brand new genuine nissan item is around the $120 - $130 mark, i dont know about the cost for a rebuild

and the clutch pedal squeak is the clutch fork pivot ball. there are a few threds about how to grease it to stop the squeak.

I had my master cylinder overhauled by Nissan for $50. Have done 25,000km since, including 4 drift days at Winton, with no problems.

how long did it take for them to do the rebuild? When the one in my 32 started leaking i need the replacement ready to go as my car was my daily driver, thats why i went for a new item.

Although I've seen a few track days mine is a daily driver as well and i told Nissan the same thing when i dropped my car off there. But i had a lot of work done in one stint. Rear main seal, clutch, new slave, rebuilt master cylinder, timing belt, rocker cover gaskets etc. But from memory i still had the car back with in a day or so.

One thing i did notice on the invoice though was that they had to sublet the overhaul of the master cylinder. But I'm not sure where they sent it to be done? A hydraulics place or...? Might be worth ringing a few places around and cutting out the middle man.

I replaced both my master and slave cylinder last year. Mine was leaking into the cabin too. I just dug through my car receipts, from nissan it cost me $104 for a new master assembly. You can however buy overhaul kits for them. Its pretty easy to replace. Remove the line to the assembly, remove the two bolts from the firewall, and remove the pin and shaft from the pedal (near the pedals inside the cabin). Then its just a matter or removing the assembly and fitting the new one.

You have to bleed out the fluid from the slave cylinder first then remove the lines from the slave and the master.

In my case I couldn’t remove the lines even using a breaker bar and my wanking hand. So I cut the lines at both ends and then removed the cylinders.

I bought a braided line to replace the cut pipe from “Tweakit” for like $80.

This also means now I can get rid of all the extra piping too.
