If you scroll up to the DIY section you will find tutorials on most of the things you need to do for a 100k service including how to change the cam belt. You don't have to do everything at once - you could spread it over a couple of weekends if necessary. NB SK's assertion that the waterpump is good for 200,000km so if it looks OK you could leave that (but if you're paying someone for the service its probably just as well to get the pump done at the same time as the cam belt).

There are good reasons why people don't do these things themselves (no time, no tools, no space) but the golden rule with workshops is: get a quote and ask them what is included in the price and if necessary get some more quotes.

The middle road is do the bits you want to yourself and pay someone to do the rest.

well my 100k service at first cost $1400, but then it came to $2200 after having to change the transmission oil twice, 2 new CV boots, putting a new coolant line on the turbo, earthing straps. i sure hope the car is set now for another 10 years

Just booked my S2 in at a place in Adelaide for $1,250 (maybe they spotted my post?), less $140 for the transmission service (had MV Autos install a shift kit couple months ago) works out to ~$1,100, but may be a bit extra for new tensioner & idler bearings. That basically includes supply & fit new timing belt, all fluids, replace accessory belts (good 'cause mine are damn noisy at startup) & dyno tune.

hey guys,

so i took my car back to SSV and they're getting the cam belt cover fixed for me (twas rubbing on one of the 'fan'? belts)

they're getting it done at RE Customs for me, (i think i'll take it to sabaddin next time though)

while they have the front open i decided i'd get some stuff changed aswell :)

as its done 82,000k's and i thought i mayswell get it done now rather than in another 10.

Cam belt - $100 (mmm my first gift to the car :( )

Water Pump - $230 (sounds expensive?)

idler bearings

crank shaft seal

cam seal

+ additional $100 labour.

all up about $600 ish.

how does that sound? i'm not too sure what sortof prices i should be looking at as i've never had any work done before.

sounds OK to me, but if you have a squizz in the traders section, you can get a Gates timing belt kit that includes the belt, cam seals, timing cover gasket and idlers all in one for a damn good price.

IMO its a waste of money to replace the water pump "just because". I know it will be a pain in the ass if it drops its guts before the next cam belt is due (because the pump is behind the cam belt) but unless it is making noises or dripping from the weep hole at the bottom, I see no real reason to change it. Save the $230 and put it into something else.

Alpine amp and speakers is at the very top (got my headunit n Sub.)

then maybe some nice Rims, and some new brakes.

Anyone on here done the 100,000km service on a M35?

Mine will be due later this year so I'm curious what I'm up for. Presumably its all the same but minus cam belt? (the VQ is chain driven)

Yep. Nothing special.

Nissan recommend the 80,000km service to be the big bad one now... must be after more money.

If you want to save money get a Nistune chip instead of the Power Fc. It should do you for quite a while and if you want to upgrade to a Vipec you should be able to sell your Nistune chipped ecu quite easily.

    • The old manifold was quite under the GTR strut brace.  The new manifold is quite [unknown] the GTR strut brace. The GTR strut brace was needed to clear the bonnet vents. The Old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, but not the bonnet vents. The old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, and the new bonnet without vents. But I am hoping the GTR strut brace clears the new manifold :p
    • On the bright side, at least you knew that it happened and remedied before anything happened. A friend of mine just took his Fiat 124 to a shop for an oil change and they didn't tighten the oil filter housing properly. 4.5 quarts spewed out and even after refilling + tightening the cap the engine has a tick now.
    • So, more pain. The FAST manifold is a little larger than the stocker. This is problematic because there really wasn't much clearance to begin with, so going from 'barely enough' well into 'no' is sad based on the external dimensions of the thing, even though where it bolts to the head is the same. Result is the fuel rails sit a good 25mm higher, and this is a bit of an issue with the wiring that runs behind the motor, and the fuel lines, and everything else. When pushing the manifold on, it required a huge amount of force to crush wiring looms to fit it, sensors like the MAP sensor are about 1mm from the firewall, and the FPR just has to bend ABS lines to be forced into place. After some brainstorming and some sad drinking, the loom for some reason ran from the grommet behind the ABS sensor, then to the driver side head, then back to the passenger side head. So all of this was pulled back and stripped, a few wires cut and rejoined, so that the 'branch' was now on the passenger side's head as below: Before you basically couldn't see anything behind the driver head. This is much improved! The MAP sensor is now pointing up (instead of at the firewall) Brackets have been made up for the rail. The rails are for a LS1, the manifold is designed around a LS2 as it's base. Which of course has slightly different bracketry and water pump clearance, hence the mods people need to do. Should be hopefully mounted tonight. I spent money on a new FPR that is slightly more compact than my Turbosmart FPR1200. The gauge has also been moved to the rail. There's also apparently an ORB to AN Union instead of the adapter, because the ~25mm of the current adapter is going to make the difference. Provided this all goes together and arrives today, it'll be the totally not stressful attempt to start it.
    • This seems like a pointless exercise. There is no E30 availability. Ongoing availability of E85 should not be assumed. Flex-fuel is the only sensible approach, so you can use E85 when and where you can get it, 98 when that's al you can get, and anything in between as you fill it up and drain it down. And if that means replacing the pumps, fitting a flex capable sensor/ECU/whatever has to be done to these Renault shitboxen, then.....so be it?
