TokyoTaxi
Here's one for the die hard useless nissan info junkies out there. OK so the other day I fitted a factory turbo system to my N/A and this morning I start the car up and I'm walking around the back and notice the exhaust gas is only coming out of the left pipe / tip. I put my hand near the right tip and there's nothing coming out. Anyway, I drive to work and park the car, I get out and put my hand behind each pipe and now the hot air's coming out of the right pipe now and there's little to no gas coming out of the left tip. Is there some kind of thermo / bi-metallic flap in the factory muffler ? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/233248-factory-rear-mufflers/ Share on other sites

Thats the one with 2 pipes going into the back of the muffler, yeah ? Mine's only got 1 pipe going in & no valve. It's got me fcuked ! Gonna push some broom sticks up there and see if anything moves. Cold at idle it growls. Cold on the road it sounds shit ( tinny ). Hot at idle it sounds OK and on the road hot it sounds kinda tinny but not too bad. I'm going to keep the system and just fit a better rear muffler ( big oval one ) and it should sound tasty. rgr34
thought it would be abit noisy....... try getting a oval muffler with off set inlet outlet otherwise probly still be quite loud! Haysey
how did i know your "money Saver" N/A wouldnt stay NA forever scott? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/233248-factory-rear-mufflers/#findComment-4093677 Share on other sites
TokyoTaxi
how did i know your "money Saver" N/A wouldnt stay NA forever scott? It's still N/A. It's just got a factory turbo cat-back exhaust system fitted to it now This muffler thing has me baffled ! I had a look up the back and a poke around and there doesn't seem to be and valves or flaps or anything up there so I think I'm just going to have to chalk it up to one of those unsolved mysteries. Just to prove I'm not crazy I'll take some vids and post em up when I get a chance. rgr34, It's not actually noisy with the turbo system fitted but it does have that rattle sound as you put the boot in ( that all stock skyline systems have ). So yeah, I'll probably throw a big oval muffler on the back but not sure if I want an offset one since I don't want it too quiet Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/233248-factory-rear-mufflers/#findComment-4093708 Share on other sites

TokyoTaxi
y dont u just gat a proper japanese cat back and muffler system happening dude??? Actually I already have a decent jap cat-back system but I was wondering how good a factory turbo system is / could be on an N/A so I fitted one. Just fcuking around doing some homework really, more for the sake of those who are looking for a cheaper option. The fact is though, there are VERY few jap cat-back systems available for R34 N/A 4 doors and almost all aftermarket jap "turbo" systems that will bolt up are too loud. Anyway, the first post was the mainreason for posting. Still have no answer / idea.
