T1R's are good because they reach operating temperatues very quickly.

So they are very popular for Motorkhanas and hill climbs.

As for using them as street tyres.. Im not sure if it completely worth it.. you pobably dont reach full operating temps on the street so you may not be completely using the rubber to the most of your advantage..

Im running T1r on front with proxe4's on the rear..

The turn in is excellent with the T1r.. basically point and shoot.. in the wet it's extremely predictable. I've done track days, hill climbs and street driving on this set-up and can't fault it too much.. T1r is the top of the line street tire toyo offer, you can't compare it to the R888 which is a semi slick.. You won't be disappointed with the T1r thought.

Any reason why you haven't run T1R's at the rear?

I have a pair of T1R's at the front too and found them to be exactly as described above. I have a pair of Hankooks on the rears, as at the time i was just wanting cheap tyres, as these rims are used to "play with". I am now considering going the T1R's at the rear too. The T1R's were purchased 2nd hand for less than half price, with 90% thread, best money ever spent :D

2nd hand for less than half price, with 90% thread...that's make me crazy, why you guys always can get cheap price but good stuff...

how you think the price, $310 for 265/35/18.. I haven't try tempe tyres, hope they can do a better price

Not sure mate, never got a quote for that size, doesn't sound bad though. Just get out the yellow pages and call around all the tyre shops, you'll soon find out if it's a good price or not.

Bought the T1r a while ago, was chasing a set for the rear 2 days prior to a track day.. couldn't find any, so opted for the proxes.

With that said, I don't think it was a bad move... I found that that the stickier/ better T1rs on the front helped decrease the GTRs front heavy tendency to under-steer due to the proxe4's letting me get tip toey much easier in order to get the car back on track. If it makes any sense ;)

Me too ;) Well i did

Anyways i ran t1rs on front and ad07s on rear. Both expensive rubber but it was worth every cent :D

Track day - no problems with the t1rs

Wet - no problems either and gripped well.

If i had to buy rubber again i would go with the t1rs :D

Thats coz he bought it off me!!

I sold my buddy club p1s and i kept the t1rs thinking i might need it again.. But i never did!! so ended up selling it

Al hows my t1rs going man? I miss it now lol

Edit: i think 310 is a good price for 18s in 265s.

Try tubby tyres (i found them to be the cheapest for t1rs)

I think you're thinking of the S-Comp R1Rs or R-Comp RA1s, both of which have low activation temperature requirements that make them popular with hillclimbers and motorkhanas. The T1Rs are a regular street radial, not a motorsport tyre. They shouldn't require any activation temperature.

I wouldn't use an R-Comp as a street tyre. Most require heat to work, which makes them a handful in the wet when you're just tooling around town, and the tyre roar will give you headaches. I daily drove on R-Comps once - my tyres lasted 8000km, the headaches were uncomfortable (turning the stereo up still wasn't enough), and every time it rained I'd have an oversteer moment no matter how careful I was.

If you're having traction problems and you need a grippy tyre, get an S-Comp like the R1R, Falken RT615, Bridgestone RE-01R, or Federal 595RS. They'll work well enough when cold or wet, although I wouldn't be trying to corner carve without warming them up. S-Comps are noisier than regular street radials, but they're nowhere near as bad as R-Comps. Turning the stereo up will get rid of their tyre roar.

If you have no traction issues, the longer life and better wet/cold weather performance or a regular street radial like the T1R is the best bet. They're also cheaper to buy.
