I was just watching the top gear episode where they took the lambo, porsche and the aston martin to italy and switzerland to find a good piece of tarmc and it got me pumped to find a place in NSW (preferrably around sydney) where you could unleash some of your car's potential.

Somewhere with minimal traffic, great views, the curvy bends, the long straights and the smooth roads.

Any input guys?

If you want tarmac with...

i) hot mix tar

ii) no potholes

iii) no major intersections

iv) few driveways

v) little traffic

vi) 184 apexes within 12 Km

vii) undulations

viii) sweepers

ix) sharp bends

x) a terrific destination as your reward,

Then it's MACQUARIE PASS at sunrise

You go down the Princes Hwy to Albion Park and turn right onto the Illawarra Hwy.

Many people do a run up-and-down...

Or you can turn left at the Robertson Pie shop at the top and go down Jamberoo Pass Rd. Turn left onto Swamp Rd for more sweepers/undulations

And have breakfast at the Pie shop (on RHS) or gorgeous Ranelagh House where breakfast is on between 8am-9 (on LHS extra 2Km)

At Robertson, you can turn left and then right onto Belmore Falls Rd. Nice bit of tarmac here too; but only for 2.5 Km before the dirt.

Or you can proceed to Nowra Rd; turn left and go to Kangaroo Valley. 1 Km east of Kangaroo Valley, turn left onto Kangaroo Valley Rd towards Berry and rejoin the Hwy

Or you can continue along Nowra Rd that continues onto Cambewarra Mtn Rd. Great tarmac this too, but by this time, there's a lot more traffic and a few more driveways to be careful of...

ENJOY! Tez.

Pacific Highway from Berowra to Gosford (often congested on weekends)

Putty road to Windsor

Royal National Park towards Wollongong

For shorter trips:

From Hornsby to Mona Vale: Take Bobbin Head Road, and then along Mona Vale Road to McCarrs creek Road... (For another short but fun drive, shoot down to Akuna Bay, left off McCarrs Creek road. Some nice views down here.

They are some nice driving roads... dont expect Swiss Alps views though, this IS sydney

BTW You can enjoy your trips over and over again with...

A VIDEO/CAM setup in your car. It ain't hard to set up a fixed unit.

As you watch it, and as you go around the bends and twisties, it can make you sick - just like on Top Gear or the introduction to Italian Job #1 in the Miura.

Cheers, T

+1 for Macquarie Pass

+1 for the Royal National Park to Wollongong

add for a quick burst up the mountain, Mt Keira...

+ for all them.

The race from kembla to keira was a good one but the road is closed now

OMG - up then down in ~6mins so much fun.

Hands down, Kangaroo Valley.

Awesome drive, and a great ice cream shop at the bottom of the valley before you head back up.

Just sucks if you get stuck behind someone driving well under the speed limit.
