P Plater Buying A Non-turbo R32 Gts

Hello All,

Just joined in need of some advice.

I am looking at a white R32 GTS Non-turbo in springvale VIC on carsales.com.au

i am just wondering what they are like, and is it wise to go non-turbo

Also just want some genral info on the car

For example what is the engine in it i think it's a RB20DET am i correct?

Also is it worth droping a RB25DETT into them after i get off my p's?

the GTS has a RB20DE... its nearly the same as the GTS-T ...but no turbo. and the hub is a 4 stud, not a 5 stud

they are a preety good car, cause you can use the GTS-T parts on it.... so you wont be short of parts. as for power.... its ok, you wont be running any 11 sec 1/4 mile passes thats forsure

If it's non turbo its a RB25DE

If your on your p's you'll get ALOT of cop attention. I'm on my ps and a dickhead cop stopped me at a booze bus and said i can;t drive my NA 34 coz its too powerful, the idiot gave me a fine and took 3 points so i had to go get a dyno done on it to say its under power:weight ratio and what not, so i got the dyno sheet in the glove box just incase it happens again, got the fine squashed and points back though.

Um if your a p-plater (depending when you got your p's) you can't have a turbo

depends how long u have left on your Ps, personally I think its better to wait and just get a turbo.. whole bunch of hassles swapping the engine over later, in my opinion... might as well just get an R33 when u can.

Can you still get a turbo/R32 on your Ps? I can't keep up with the new laws.

Nah if you got your P's after july 07 you can't have any turbo (except for turbo diesel vehicles)

Yup, restricted from turbo's, v8's and powerfull v6's.

IMO you should go for an NA silvia (SR20DE), from memory they make around 115kw? they are lighter then the skyline and slighty less attractive to cops imo... Drive this around until you get your full license then sell up for a turbo skyline..

just buy a honda civic, with v-tec.... at the end of the day it will be sooooo much easier to sell than a R32 with a RB20DE.

Um LEANBAC i would realy prefer a Skyline over a civic mate, if i wanted a civic i would have looked up a civic site

the R32 GTS came out with an RB20DE and an RB25DE. the GXi model came out with a CA18i but you'll never find one in aus. the only turbo engine that came out rear wheel drive was the RB20DET.

i would personally wait until you were off your P's so you can get a turbo skyline, as there's a lot more room for modification and less hassles with engine swaps. a friend of mine has a GTS RB20DE and the power just doesn't compare if that's what you're looking for.

yeh i'd do the same..seriously not worth getting a non turbo r32 then spending a whole heap of cash dropping in a turbo engine because its not just the engine you have to change in a non turbo 32 to get it up to speed with a gtst but if you must get one, sell it when ur ready to get a gtst. personally getting a r33 gts/gts4 would be alot better because of it being newer.

get something like a CB lancer gsr, something with vtec, pulsar sss or as someone else mentioned, a silvia. alot cheaper and parts are everywhere.

I got pulled over, cop said i wasnt allowed to drive a R32 turbo on my P's even if i've got my P's before july 07 he didnt know what he was talking about! Then he was argueing that my car was a GTR lol.. he had no idea about skylines, i had so much shit i culdve been done for.. eg pod/fmic he pointed that out but i said nah thats no pod its a CAI its allowed its not counted as a intake mod and he beleived me lol

As the others have said

Get the non-turbo for now, and then the turbo in 3-4 years (or whatever it is).

dont bother converting/swapping parts etc. R34's will be cheap as chips in 3-4 years so just save your coin and start from the much newer/better base if anything

PS: I've taken one of the new Civic Type R's for a spin. They go pretty good. I was damn surprised that even while hoofing it around corners, little-to-no understeer thanks to all the fancy electronic features built in. Good fun. The brakes work well too...
