Hey Guys,

I'm making my own custom Dual gauge pillar pod and before i paint it (original interior colour) im just wondering if anyone knows of any primer/undercoat that produces a wrinkle texture...

I have looked in to the VHT range however all the wrinkle texture paints are red or black and can't be painted over... i was considering using a stone guard primer but i think the texture would be too rough...

what do u mean by wrinkle?

they is a product that gives a spoted textured look like on the bottome of some bumbers. porche 4wd's and the like. it's black but can be painted over, i'll look 2morrow morning when i'm at work for you if you want?

Wrinkle texture - if you look at most plastics on the interior of your car (a-pillar) you see it has a rough/wrinkle texture.

use wrinkle paint - then coat over it in the colour you need.

OR

you get a spray gun full of primer , turn up the pressure and pull the part back from gun - so it dries as it heads for the part - then the primer will be wrinkled - then paint it!

do the same with the can - so it sort of splutters onto the part dust coatings only - but try to make sure its a hot day/room

What about Stone Guard Primer? or would that be too rough??

I was talking to a guy at Peps Auto today and i asked if i could paint over the VHT wrinkle (black) and he said that the wrinkle effect is due to 2 different types of paint mixing with oxygen and causing the coating to shrivel up... he said if i spray another type of paint on top it will peel/flake off...

stone guard wont work cause it's really think, a normally spray gun wont even spray it, your after a paint called 'bumper texture' i dont know if you can get it in a spray can but i'll stil.l get the brand for you 2morrow. Off the top of my head i think the brand is K&H, if you were in melbourne i could do it for ya

and with the primer idea it might work but primer needs to be dry then rubbed before painting over unless its a wet on wet primer which i dont think u can get in a car and also don't forget to use plastic primer before u put anything else over it

Well the paint i bought is K&H Plastic & Vinyl Paint so im assuming that K&H also make a bumper texture... does it come in a spray can?

i dont know we just use it in our spray guns at work, i image it would but im not 100%

yeah K&H texture black. it does come in cans you can get it from repco. or i think septone does something similiar aswell. you could also try just pushing the spray cap down halfway and the paint will sort of splutter out. then give it a quick red scotch down and then paint the colour of choice. that way you keep decent adhesion

Spoke to an automotive paint store today and they said to use Moto-Spray Stoneguard Primer and use light coats until desired wrinkle is achieved then paint over with desired colour...
