Recently I have noticed goods and services in Japan have increased.

for example I went to my local family convenience store the other day for some coke and they wanted 400円 for a 1.5lt bottle of coke zero

then Today I was shocked by the price of the nismo package for the r35

Check out this f**king watermelon !

When i was over there last i was doing a bit of shopping and had to snap this. These apples were friggn huge!

Two old ladies next to me thought i was nuts, taking photos of an apple with a lighter next to it

Doesn't anyone watch the news anymore? NHK have been reporting on tax increases on groceries etc since at least June or so.

All to do with the aging population you see

damn , did no one see the price or the fact the watermelon was shaped as a heart. its a 200 dollars watermelon.

as a side note

a japanese man yelled at me in a supermarket today telling me to go back to my country. all because i moved his wet umbrella off the soup rack so i could see which soup I wanted to buy for dinner.

im gonna look for him then kick him in the teeth, then call him a racist f...k...in c..t again!

There's a bunch of 2 and 3 hundred dollar rockmelons for sale here in Tokyo. And they're not even shaped differently to normal ones. I thought it was just one of those little quirks that people always go on about; Used panty vending machines, 8 dollar cups of coffee et al...

The yelling Japanese man was probably just angry at you because NHK ran another story about how the horrible foreign workers in this country are responsible for everything from rising crime rates to the recent spate of flash flooding.

lol, that would make an excellent Valentines day gift if you think about it...

Romantic...well, that depends.

Memorable...farkin oath.

Oh, yeah while im at it...

All you expats should be going to COSTCO for fruit and veg...holy cow..

Picked up 1.5 kilos of proper green grapes ( not the ones you have to bloody peel - hate them ) and a kilo of black cherries for 2000 yen.

Now thats value in anyones book.

m3gtr, costco is a very excellent place. i bought a 6.3 kilo the sphincter of the universe there last christmas.

as not many people were impressed with my heart shaped watermelon . and seen as how this thread has gone some what of track ....(not sure if it had any tracks to begin with)

It's worth every cent. I'm tired of fumbling with round fruit. D'oh (drops watermelon as it expands to normal round shape).

You're actually getting 27.9% volume of extra value with those square watermelons. not to mention the savings from packing space, ease of stacking, don't roll around...

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 1 month later...

There are places to buy stuff at reasonable prices still. You have to look around. But still then again when compared with prices back home it's really painful.

a pack of 10 eggs at one of the shops I go to is only 99 Yen (for a pack!).

Then you got those 4L plastic bottles of whiskey or sake for like 3000 Yen. Now where can you find alcohol in Australia for that price, Let alone a 4L bottle! (would you like a straw with that?)

Cigarette packs at 300yen

So there are some things that are cheaper

Just avoid the watermelons!
