ovrtym33
driving normally down torrens road coming home from work this arvo saw a cop do a u turn followed me towards arndale then pulled me over, popped the bonnet 2 look at engine he told me everything looks stock (even thought i have a highmount turbo), went through the cabin looking every where 4 a boost controller found my gauges that were on my steering column that i threw on the floor, asked what they were and why they on the floor, found a cable hanging out the glove box, he opened it and found my pfc, he thought it was a boost controller but i said it was for my stereo, he found out that i was lying so i said its just a display for engine readings, checked my tyre placard and he said it was for 16" wheels (1st defect) i have 19's, then he did a exhaust db test, i recorded 96db which should be 90db (2nd defect),i pleaded for just a cop shop check but said no so he slapped the sticker on my car but the strange thing is that he wanted to fine me $209 for those 2 defects and said that seeing each wheel is too big wanted to fine $209 per wheel.......... can he do that?? luckily i was calm and he pointed that out 2 me and said he'll be nice and not fine me whats the fee of the inspections these days?? i heard its $270??????? RubyRS4
Your first mistake was lying to him. Sorry to hear, but you might have been let off with a warning if you were just upfront with him. Once you lie, that opens the door for him to go thru a fine check on your car, instead of a quick once over. As for the fine for each rim, he was playing you for a reaction. See if you were a smart mouth or still hiding anything. Cops are currently looking for in cabin plug in and play stuff, so be careful people. One cop, 35 skylines in 3 weeks!?! ... for one cop. So the police force must be defecting 100s of skylines each week!?! *flick*
if your rego doesnt go through, you CAN still register your car under defect, trust me. I done it, kye done it and a few other friends have done it too., You have to go to the regency office to do it though, take your defect notice with you, and make sure u have a regency date set, they will want to know that one. Pay the rego as usual and htey will give you a temporary rego sticker to put on the car - valid upto the day of your appointment. Pay the usual 3 month rego etc though. Once you are cleared, take your clearance form, and your temp sticker and they will print you a normal one. Dont let them say it cant be done, it can, ive done it twice myself.. but some of the girls behind the counter there are bit slow and might not know they can do it.. skyhighR33
cara is right, a cop cannot open anything that is concealed(locked) without a warrent, eg glove box boot or even under the hood. i have heard bout this also from a few people. if anyone can prove otherwise i would have argued that fact about opening the glovebox, but i have never been defected as i was nice to them bout stuff and dont know how the adelaide cops react. cheers... michael Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/234094-defected/#findComment-4102577 Share on other sites
fullyhyperlite
SO by what skyhighR33 has said...does that mean if a cop pulls you over and asks you to pop your bonnet, that you can say "do you have a warrant for that?" I don't get it lol :S Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/234094-defected/#findComment-4102649 Share on other sites
heslo
Wow that sucks buddy, hope you don't have too much trouble taking it back to standard I know how it feels, had two defects this year Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/234094-defected/#findComment-4102653 Share on other sites
Chris#3
you could but the cop would get rather suspicious and most likely give you a defect for something else. If that whole needing a warrant thing actually exists. VVV There ya go. R32 project
they need a warrant to check anything out of sight unless they have reasonable suspiscion. In this case it was the cable hanging out the glovebox. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/234094-defected/#findComment-4102664 Share on other sites
