So I'm setting a bad example for the modified community?

Since when is SAU or any car forum a role model?

You wont get off a defect for being honest to a cop.

A cop wont say "Well, for your honesty, I'll just peel off this yellow sticker off your windshield."

At no point have I either suggested to 'lie' your way out of a defect. It's what I did at that certain time and I was explaining my story.

You could if it is just something minor and you've been nice + honest and his been having a good day etc etc doesnt want to fill out the papers so just lets you off... but if you give attitude the second the cop comes towards you and start lieing about obvious things then expect to be reamed up the rear end with no lube! :(

lol, trust me when i say that if you be a dickhead, your gonna get defected, even if your car is factory standard.

^^^ Exactly.

Alot of you guys have mods on your cars. You know it, the cops know it. The problem with car drivers is that they can't be discrete anymore; you don't even try to make your car look stock or at least presentable (dangling wires = fail; bov = fail; etc). Lies might work on mommy and daddy, but cops are trained to read bullshit. The first thing any cop will do is give you the attitude test, and this test is ongoing. Lie and cop a bigger punishment. They will find something to defect a stock car for ... they will find more things to make your life hell if you drive a modded car.

If you wanna go down in a blaze of glory for a small thing, then good for you. Let the others make up their minds how they should great a cop when they see one.

Being discrete starts with you.

im pretty bloody good at bullshit, its worked for me multiple times so far :(

my comment however was in relation to your comment where you made it sound like as soon as you get pulled over you should point out all your modifications done to your car i.e "hey officer how are you, well im gonna be honnest, this bad boy is running around 300 at the rears, ive got this, that and yeh there all legal but where cool cause im being polite yeh???"

Cops are trained on attitude, etc but most wouldn't have a clue what to look for to find if somethings hidden. Some cops wouldn't even know what a boost controller soleniod looks like, but others will. It's the luck of the draw. The cop who defected my old 323 didn't have a clue (a boost gauge is not a rev tacho). Don't make your car stand out like a sore thumb.

If you modify your car in a smart way (eg. spraying your front mount black), then you can get away with basic defectable modifications, as in this thread, the guy got away with a top mount turbo because his engine bay didn't have a sea of chrome. But he did get done for other issues.

The whole issue is not about volunteering info/specs on your car, but rather leave it for them to find out ... and if they do, don't bullshit them. You can get let off with a warning. Be a dickhead and you won't. You can't go flaming cops because you get busted lying.

And if you go cruising around with 19" rims, wires dangling everywhere, hi mount turbo, and all the other bling that screams "defect me" ... then don't be surprised when you get defected. Cop it sweet. I just can't understand the logic of some people who want a cars that screams "mine is faster than yours", yet want to left alone by the cops. And if you are going to act like a dickhead and lie and all, then please at least remove the SAU sticker if you have one.

That is exactly my point of being discrete. :(

My fmic is black, my HKS filter still has the air intake and filter box top still in place, upgraded turbo has the heat shields in place, suspension is 'lower' but not 'dumped', etc. I've been checked over 3 times now and I've been polite and they've let me go.

one of my mates from the Norwood Station knows nothing about cars but has been trained to look for obvious things like BOV's, hand controllers, turbo timers, boost gauges, boost controllers, unsecured pods and obvious things like wheels, exhaust, slammed, etc etc etc

It all depends on which cop you get, Pete.

From experience, some know more about what to look for than others.

There's many experienced cops out there that I've encountered who are very knowledgable about what to look for, and these are the ones who will praise you or compliment on the fact that you've done a modificaion legally (eg. having your pod secured, or placing a gauge in a legal and safe place in the cabin).

cop "do you have any illigal modifications on your car?"

you "... yes?"

In general i'd say do not lie at all to an officer, but sometimes you can't avoid it.. so its better to bend the truth rather than a total lie, but if its to save your ass... what are your going to do? rock and a hard place

I guess if you know hes going to get you for something, dont lie, just tell the truth regardless (you'll have to remove it for regency anyway)

speaking of painting intercoolers black;

i rang up regency to speak with one of the officers about modifications a couple of weeks ago, and he told me aftermarket intercoolers are not an issue/you won't get defected for them...

can anyone confirm?

that is true.

you can have in aftermarket intercooler installed, as long as installing it doesnt modify the vehicles chassis in a structural way.

you can also have a pod filter, as long as it is secured to the car.
