R33 Shift Lock Problem

Im a newbie when it comes to car maintenance so I hope someone can help me.

Over the last few days I have been having a lot of problem with the shift lock on my auto R33. I can turn the car on and start up the engine no worries but the auto stick remains in park. It usually eventually clicks in so i can shift out of park but it can take ages and is a bit worrying. Depressing the brake pedal doesn't seem to make any difference.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do?
